With Thor it went from Mediocre to Bad to Great.
Your assessment is fair but personally I would bump all of it one grade higher. Good (or at least decent) to Mediocre (or lackluster) to Freaking Amazeballs

The last Thor was amazingly good. Better than black panther, even though bp was good.

I should have went 9. I would say 8.5. So fun man. So fun.

Thor was severely played out of character/tone because the movie series lacks a decent side kick to play off of Thor's serious personality. As such this movie felt like a stark contrast to what has already been preestablished.

It's still a fun movie but I went having had the movie over rated and hyped up, so My expectations were probably higher than they should have been. As such I walked away hardly impressed and feeling more like "meh"

This is top 3 MCU for me
1. WS
2. GOTG
3. T:R

Honestly, those are so close I could change the order and still be happy.

I liked it better than the first Guardians, but I'm biased towards stuff that pokes fun at it's own genre. Also it has the most Jeff Goldblum that has ever Jeff Goldblum.

Winter Soldier is still GOAT though.

Yeah in fact I thought the first Thor was real underrated. One of my favorites in the MCU up until when they started churning out the awesome Captain America sequels.

Second was nothing special but I thought it was entertaining. Unmenorable but enjoyable at the time which is more than I could say for how I felt watching Iron Man 3 from the same year.

I find it funny that people love TR. Its got great action scenes and is very cool at times but it is bogged down by the shittiest comedy ever. You may even like it but how would you like to go see the good the bad and ugly as a comedy. Thor is not supposed to be funny. Its a very serious type of comic.

Guardians is better than TR imp

For me I'd replace Guardians with Doctor Strange.

I would also put Civil War up there but they fucked up Zemo so bad.

Agreed. I think people were just so happy that TR wasn't as crappy as the previous two movies that they overreacted just a tad. Something was seriously off about TR. The humor for sure, but it's something else. Maybe the pussification of Loki? I hated that.

Lol at the jab at the DCEU.

Thor is 1970s cheese factory.. He's going to be funny one way or the other, unless the person watching has a bad sense of humor, so might as well go intentionally funny. I don't laugh easy, so this movie was legit funny. It wasn't modern crap attempt at funny, it was actually good humor. A couple times it didn't work, and maybe there were a couple too many gags overall, so maybe it's not a 10.. Most movies aren't. This was the first Thor movie I actually watched in one sitting all the way through, and I could not believe how entertained I was. It did start to drag about 2/3 the way through, and I felt laughed out and like I was done. Then it finished strong and redeemed. 8/10 overall for a movie = 9/10 for a comic movie.

I appreciated how Thor wasn’t just portrayed as a dumb jock.

I would love that. But it's already been done.

Yeah, part of the reason why the previous Thor movies weren't so great is that they took themselves way too seriously, even for comic book movies. Also, I couldn't care less about how "appropriate" is the translation of the source material, I just want a good movie. And it's not like they never poked fun at it before, Thor 1 and 2 and The Avenger had plenty of scenes where they did that ("does mother know you weareth her drapes?"), they just turned it up to 11 with this movie.

Might not work for everyone but I'm a big fan of putting talented directors in charge of popular franchises and letting them do whatever they want with it. That's how you get Ragnarok, Aliens, whatever would've come out of the Ant Man movie by Edgar Wright...

What did @Anung Un Rama think of Ragnarok?

He's never pleased by anything comic book movie.

Ragnarok was not the full blooded (straight adaptation) Ragnarok movie you wanted, but did you make peace with Marvel's tried and tested formula?

As I thought it would, it blended the Planet Hulk and Ragnarok stories seamlessly, for a thoroughly good Marvel movie.

- It's not mentioned enough, however, that Whytitty/writers basically ripped off GOTG's style, but whatevs.

No...Thor is not a joke type of comic book. Some writers have thrown that in from time to time but thor the movie hes a fucking comedian.

Loki is a joke of a villain. Theres never a time where he walks into a room and im like oh shits going down. When he walks in im like oh shit here comes the comedy.

Yes i even was happy that it was better than the first two but it was a comedy about a person that shouldnt be in a comedy.

Completely agree. To be honest, none of the Thor movies crack my top 10 MCU favorites. TR might be number 9 or 10...maybe. I'd like to see a darker take on Thor though, or at least one with a more serious tone.
