Opinion This Administration stripped funding and fired people that would have warned about this.

Fuck off. Like I said. I’ve been here for three major storms and FEMA hasn’t done shit.

They show up late and offer peanuts. Come on dipshit, what has FEMA done for the people in Maui or LA? Or North Carolina?

Please… post something asshat. You can’t

It’s all local and state responses. And that’s where emergency money should be allocated to.

I can offer example after example of them falling on their face during emergency responses.

lol…

You want to suck their dick? lol… go ahead. I know you Canadians love to be told what to do by your Governent. You voted that clown Trudeau in.

Go on… go balls deep
Thousands of emergencies and you post three. Hilarious. Just spewing partisan shit when it suits you.

lol at mentioning Trudeau. You just voted for a guy who shut down the investigation into Epstein because his name was all over the files. I’d sit this one out.

FEMA? lol..

The State of Texas and the Cajun navy were there days before FEMA.

You’re fucking retarded

Tell me again what FEMA did for the Maui fire victims? And the NC flood victims?

FEMA showed up several days late and handed out $700 checks to help with expenditures

They’ve always been that way.

I’ve rode out two hurricanes and Harvey over 20 years. FEMA response has always been dogshit going back to Katrina

FEMA is garbage

Stay in your lane dipshit. The entire emergency response is local and State. Give them the money.

You don’t have worry about some asshat Federal employee denying aid to Conservstives

It’s hilarious to hear y'all's retarded opinions of what you think is happening

Uh I know FEMA paid for a physician I know in my area to step away from his practice and go down to treat victims from the NC floods. He was there for months treating survivors. The Cajun navy ain’t doing that

I don’t know everything FEMA does but I’m about 95% sure you don’t either and have let this social media crusade against everything federal twist your opinion of them. You’re sharing tweets that aren’t even attempting to tell the whole story and often not even being really true or meaningful

Edit: and to be clear im not bashing the emergency response efforts in Texas. I am pointing out different phases of disaster response. You’re only focused on the immediate but FEMA is equipped to deal with the long term fall out in ways the agencies you talked about can’t. That’s cool what HEB is doing, but I bet they aren’t building shelters and providing financial assistance to build new homes.

Is Texas the most poorly run state in the country? Every time they get a weather event lot and lots of people die. Cold snap killed around 500 a few years ago and now this. You know when it rains up country there the lower levels will flood. It happens in that area often.

No excuse to have fucked up this badly.

Texas over all has a large economy obviously with the resource extraction but it still manages to be a welfare state taking in more money from the federal government than they pay in taxes. States like California are tired of floating poorly run states like this.

I read that earlier this year they arrested something like 240 Texans for child sex crimes and freed 109 children! WTF??? How long was this shit going on? Apparently the investigation took a decade? Like they let it happen that long?

Texas has the largest outbreak of measles the US has seen in a long time.

From the outside it looks like Texas doesn't care about its people or maybe they are just extremely incompetent. Can someone who lives there explain this?

@Scerpi Don't you live there?
Well you see, their politician have to “own the libs”

Sucks for their citizens. They may cause and exacerbate these disasters, but god damn if their citizens can really figure out how to save each other cheaper than the federal government does

It's a very poorly run state. Texas has the number two economy next to California out of all the states but still manages to be a welfare state by taking in more federal dollars than it pays out in federal taxes. Texas already has their hand out all of the time.

They could care less about taking care of the population.

My understanding is that floods are typical for this area, people living there know this, and plenty of alerts were administered before this occurred. Do we have any real facts and understanding here?

What is the current synopsis?

Combination of bad luck and worst case scenarios converging. That region needs sirens or a new way to notify . Dont really know what personally. But It wasnt due to a failure of the nws.

Maybe something like what they did with the stolen iphones? They made a butt tonne of noise and sound iirc stating stolen being tracked. So maybe theres a way .

my messages are always silent so i wouldnt have woken up either.

Pretty balanced take. Ill just pull snippets full read worth it.

How a confluence of extreme weather, geography and timing created Texas' flood disaster

Texas leads the country in flood deaths. Steep hills, shallow soils and a fault zone have made Hill Country, also called "flash flood alley," one of the state's most dangerous regions.

As a succession of thunderstorms fed by the remnants of Tropical Storm Barry pummeled Texas' Hill Country, tools used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to detect extreme rainfall began “maxing out the color charts.”

The floods that battered Texas’ Hill Country and have killed more than 100 people were the result of a confluence of factors related to storm dynamics and the local topography. Ultimately, they culminated in what Gagne called a “worst-case scenario.”

All the ingredients came together at the wrong place, at the wrong time, at night on a holiday weekend,” Gagne said. “This was at the top end of the scale.”

While existing weather models can forecast flash flooding in advance, even the best models struggle to represent internal storm structure and to predict where, within a few miles, the hardest rainfall will strike.

In this case, the off-the-charts colors on Friday morning indicated that the south fork of the Guadalupe River was taking a direct and prolonged hit.

Then, instead of moving on, the storms stalled.

Texas state climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon said that the thunderstorms hovered above the Texas Hill Country river, dumping 10-12 inches of rainfall in about six hours. The series of storms “perfectly aligned with the South Guadalupe River Basin,” he said. The area is prone to floods and was filled with campers near the river’s edge. If the storm had been even five miles in another direction it would not have produced as much destruction, he said.

Bootstraps!

doge cuts to noaa and nws will no doubt hamper weather severity predictions. This was all part of project 2025. It’s sad the amount of death this will lead to. But it won’t me the rich dudes dying. It will be the less fortunate paying the price.

To the left, saying the government does very little good with their massive budget is like saying Christianity is a control mechanism created by Rome to the right.

People dropped the ball on this. I'm sorry that I blamed any side on this being partisan. This was avoidable, however. People dropped the ball.
I don't think so man. No cuts happened that affected warnings that did occur. It was just a tragedy, they happen. Hurricanes, tornados, floods. A tragedy that COULD be blamed on poor leadership, plans and cuts were the LA fires. But this one seemed to just overwhelm and could not be stopped. Watch the videos, where would you even evacuate too? It destroyed everything in it's path.

FEMA has been slowed down by changes made by the current administration. Read up.

But waste and fraud or whatthefuckever.

Fema is after the fact. You just have TDS. And there was waste and fraud. Just admit you hate Trump and stop trying to use disasters to bolster that hate. It's obvious and a waste of time.
Bullshit. FEMA is an important disaster response to help bolster a state's response. Now the Trump administration and Noem has kneecapped the agency because now all resources above a certain amount need to go across the desk of Noem. This delayed the response in Texas by days. This the the GOPs playbook. Go into an agency, fuck it up, then point and say, "See! I told you it doesn't work! Waste! Fraud!". Sell that shit to somebody that doesn't know any better, sport. I ain't the one.

Nah, human error, incompetence, the poorly managed state government and being too cheap to put in a proper warning system is the problem. Flooding happens all the time on that river and when it rains in the hills it floods below. It rained for 5 hours straight but no warning went out and the state allowed a children's summer camp right along the banks of a river that floods.

This was totally avoidable.

"As floodwaters in Texas rose in the early morning of July 4, a local firefighter petitioned for an emergency alert to quickly be sent out, but local officials do not appear to have followed his request until about an hour later, according to leaked audio.

The reported early-morning request raises questions about the timeline of events offered by local officials, who have said they had little advanced warning and no county system in place to alert residents about the floods, a disaster now responsible for at least 119 deaths, with even more still missing."
