There was nothing questionable about the Lawler/Koscheck stoppage

i thought it was a good stoppage but it was weird how kos seemed not just okay but unfazed by those punches as soon as it was stopped

He was waking up from being knocked out...you new to MMA or what?

bad stoppage. Ref's make mistakes, they're human.

eyes glassy? they looked glassy at the weigh-in and right before the fight started. Didn't see any change.

Not defending himself, so that's why it was stopped? So when a fighter puts his hands down after getting hurt like most fighters like to do to show the punch didn't hurt when it did, the fight should be stopped cause they arent fighting back and not defending themselves?

Come on, he was never out, his head never even touched the canvas. At least the Fedor "flash Ko" Fedor faceplanted for 1 sec before coming to. Shoulda let it go for 3 more seconds at least. Can't say "oh well he woulda ko'd him". No one knows that.

At the point when Herb intervened, Kos' hands were at his waist...

That's not intelligently defending yourself..

Did you need to see him eat 4-5 more shots before accepting that he was stopped already, or are you a fan in denial?

This fight made me realize more than ever how much mma "fans" allow Rogan's commentary to influence their own view on the fight. If Joe had said, "good stoppage by Herb Dean here, Josh was out of it" then NOBODY would have come onto these boards complainijng about the stoppage, short of pissed off Koscheck fans..

I was a little surprised Joe Rogan was so offended by the stoppage. Looked pretty good to me,,,I think Kos had a flash KO,,,recovered well but for 5 seconds or so he wasn't inteligently defending himself. Robie Lawler isn't someone to allow beating up a defenseless person,,,they will die.

The rules say you've got to protect yourself at all times. Kos wasn't protecting himself, he was out. Stoppage was fine.

I think Koscheck was not reacting anymore. So Lawler would have blasted him another 10 times and Koscheck wouldn't have done anything because he was clearly stunned.
Good stoppage.

Honestly the way Kos reacted while getting punched I thought it was a good stoppage, but then when it was stopped he looked perfectly fine. I have no idea if he went out momentarily or what, but at the moment Herb stopped the fight I thought it was fair. The way Kos just crumpled to his side made it look like he was out of it and it didn't help that he wasn't protecting his face

That's how I felt.

Not sure if Kos was out or not but he wasn't intelligently defending himself while a guy who hits like a mack truck kept punching him so the stoppage was fine. You'd think someone who wasn't glazed would've done more to defend.

It's depressing how some people still think it was an early stoppage.

Literally two more seconds into that fight this wouldn't be an issue. Lawler has heavy power

weak stoppage Herb.

This is just really dumb man,,,dont know what fight you were watching. Kos was on the ground turtled up, taking shots and not defending himself. He was OUT!

Guess that was a bad example, was just the first thing that came to mind. Carwin vs Brock or Brock vs Mir 2 are better examples of a fighter being allowed to take a lot of punishment without responding.

But in Carwin vs Lesnar, Lesnar was taking a beating but was still covering up - intelligently defending himself.

Most of the first couple shots didn't land cleanly. Only two or three landed clean before Dean stopped the fight. I think it could have been allowed to go on a couple seconds longer but either way there is something like a 90% chance that it would be over soon regardless.

It's easy to look back at it while sitting on our couches watching the fight on our 70" HD TV in slow motion while in loop mode and complain but it's different to be there live and have to make a split second call.

The thing with Kos is that he recovers very quickly from being knocked out. How many times did Alves clean his clock in their fight. You can't take Kos getting up after the fight being stopped as an indication that it was a bad stoppage. Lawler was bouncing his head off the canvas like a basketball.

Well I think the problem is that there isn't much consistency. For example, in Barry vs Kongo, Kongo was allowed to take a huge number of shots and was able to recover and win the fight whereas Herb stopped this fight far more quickly when Koscheck was hurt.

A lot of people are trying to use different fights that are nowhere near the same. First it was Carwin v Lesnar, and now Kongo v Barry. The thing is Lesnar and Kongo were actively looking for a way up and out of danger.

Koschek was laying there trying to figure out what type of shoes Herb was wearing. At max Josh was 2 punches away from being stopped by anyone else anyways.

I have confidence in my eyes and I didn't like that stoppage as I watched it.

He's not bettering his position, he's not attempting to defend himself. Clear TKO.

Hands down by his knees, getting bombed in the face = not intelligently defending yourself = tko.

No early stoppage. He recovered quick but it was a TKO, IMO.

That was a great stoppage, i dont think anybody is doubting about it
