There was nothing questionable about the Lawler/Koscheck stoppage

Rogan has a tendency to rob fighters glory during their deserved victories. Robbier/Kos was just one example, another huge one was Wandy/Cung.

This. Great example. That's one of my favorite fights ever and Rogan's comments bother the shit out of me every time I watch it.

rogan senile bias,

just super hopefully he's nowhere near the next japan event so he doesn't shit all over it again.

Guess that was a bad example, was just the first thing that came to mind. Carwin vs Brock or Brock vs Mir 2 are better examples of a fighter being allowed to take a lot of punishment without responding.

Brock was actually defending consciously, if only barely - hands before the face, pushing Carwin away with his legs etc.

Mir was allowed to eat too many strawberries indeed, no question.

Early, especially considering the inconsistency when compared to the Grice fight an hour earlier.

I rewatched it a shitload and rogan is full of shit, it wasn't early. Kos' hands were down and his face was wide open while lawler landed at least 3 extremely clean and hard shots to his unprotected face.

I didn't think it was the worst stoppage ever, but I would've liked to have seen it go on a little longer. Fighters should be given the full chance to recover.

Koscheck was out. His eyes got glassy, he wasn't protecting himself and Lawler was landing his shots. Herb Dean gave him all the time he needed.

The only reason this stoppage is controversial is because of Rogan's comments. Have some confidence in your eyes and don't take everything he says for a fact.

That's just dumb to say Joe Rogan is the only reason it's controversial.

Anyone who's watched a lot of fights would probably agree it was controversial regardless if you think it was stopped early or a good stoppage.

It's certainly debatable. Personally I thought it was slightly early but whatever it doesn't really matter now. I've seen much worse.

Getting thumped over and over again doesnt count as defending yourself just because you aren't unconscious. Goddamn there are some bloodthirsty motherfuckers around here.

Don't take what I said the wrong way. I agree 100%, that was a perfect stoppage. He isn't defending himself at the point. Period.

I was pissed when originally seeing the stoppage. Kos' eyes were open and he seemed lucid still.

The replay from the far side angle showed that he was getting tooled and his hands were near his head only by coincidence. He took several unanswered shots without any defensive reaction.

Good stoppage.

Early, especially considering the inconsistency when compared to the Grice fight an hour earlier.

Again, both were actually trying to survive, when Bermudez hit the ground ass up for a second, he imminently tried to get up and escape Grice punches.

Kos was lying there, turtled up, absorbing punishment.

That makes all the difference in the world, and all in all it was solid job from Herb this night.

This is the most irritating thing to me about this sport. The stoppages. Most stoppages when a guy is knocked down by a strike are determined by how far the ref happens to be away from the fighters at that particular moment. The refs always come rushing in and if they can get there before the guy starts throwing more strikes it's usually over. If they can't it's usually allowed to continue. That's why trainers should tell their fighters to just walk away when they score a clear knock down.

When your head starts bouncing off the mat, the fight is over. If you were ok the whole time, you should have done something about it.

Had Herb let it go a little longer it would've ended up looking like Weidman/Munoz

I think a lot of the complaints came because we didn't have a good angle on it when it happened and you really couldn't see how hurt/not hurt Kos really was.

Grice was at risk of serious injury from repeated shots to the head while already rocked, for an entire round. Kos ate a blind hook and a couple follow up punches, and the fight was stopped. This is what is known as inconsistency. The refs stop the fights to protect the fighters, well.. sometimes.

Yeah, there was no doubt specially when there's Lawler hitting you.

Are people just stupid or is this just becoming a new sherdog meme? I finally got to watch the fight after hearing about the "early" stoppage and I just don't get how anyone could really think that was an early stoppage, especially Joe Rogan of all people. Koscheck's hands and arms were down by his knees when he was getting hit, he just sat there and took it like overeem did recently when he was against the fence. I know alot of people don't like Koscheck and wanted to see him get hurt more but he was clearly out and wasn't going to do anything except get knocked out cold in another shot or two. We've seen this before where people have been knocked back into consciousness after getting flash ko'd, it's nothing new. I would hope that people who have MMA for some time now would be able to distinguish when somebody is done or not by now.
