Economy The [Wall / Government Shutdown] Megathread

Would you approve of Trump using emergency powers to build his wall?

Good for him, accepting defeat here is in the best interest of the country, dragging out his loss any longer was just making things worse for him.

Accepting defeat?

He's only re-opening the Govt for 3 weeks. {<shrug}

It's not permanent.

If there's no wall funding by the end of 3 weeks, guess where we'll be again : Back to square 1 which is a shutdown.

This fight is far from over.

If you actually read the link this is a masterful move. He gets all the credit for getting these federal workers paid, and in three weeks if the government shuts down again, the blame will be 100% on the Dems.

Puppet master.

Is it?

From sea to shiny sea. Pretty sure he just said that.

I don't love framing this as a "concession" even though it's satisfying that Trump had to back off. If it's a win, take it for what it's worth, and not as a "fuck you" to an unpopular administration. I like that some bipartisanship happened in the Senate, and I hope this leads to sensible funding for upgrading border infrastructure and I hope it leads to future cooperation. I also don't mind the Senate behaving slowly, as a deliberative body, like it is supposed to. Just try not to fuck people for a month next time.

also, it seems like most of the "caving" here is the Republican Senate being afraid of overriding a veto.

I wonder if he is "proud" of doing 800,000 federal employees dirty the way he did for the last 30+ days.

WAR Trump being forced to kneel down AGAIN, just like when public outrage ended his family separation shit at the border.

Of course, this is marked as temporary, (3 weeks) but he won't be allowed to "proudly" shut it down again. He won't

Trump loses.

We win.

Flump is talking now, and a link to the details will be posted here shortly.
I hope so. I am proud of him. The Dems wanted border security in the past and they are obviously only resisting because it's Trump. He'll go forward and get it done anyway and we'll back him. It's not my top priority but we'll back him.

Nancy Pelosi is every Trumptards worst nightmare a ruthless female politician with balls of steel.

Border security does not mean a wall and dems are still all for border security.

Trump just said nobody was ever proposing a wall covering the entire border... he said we just need barriers in key areas
<Dylan>

Isn't that what the dems have been for all along?? Seems like Trump has lost, but is just trying to spin this as positively for himself as he can

This speech went dark fast. They're just economic migrants taking advantage of the US, no more or less.

The gov't will 100% not shutdown again in three weeks. You will get some fencing and you'll be happy to get it.

He’s already accepted that the wall isn’t a requirement to fund the government, with that out of the way now, he can try to negotiate other things, but this fight is done.

I think the message from the Democrats is clear. We'll fund border projects but we won't fund a 1600 mile ego monument of a "great wall" like we're in goddamn Chinese East Berlin.

I don't give a shit. I'm just happy federal workers are gonna get paid.

3 week deal gets them paid and they can pay off the credit card debt they no doubt wracked up and then the shutdown gonna happen again. At least those poor blokes get some respite

NOPE.

Trump won't be able to shut it down again.

BANK on that.

DUH.
