There will be funding for fencing and barriers in key areas which already had support from the dems, so no reason for them not to approve that.

Trump was already trying to spin this as a victory in his speech a few minutes ago, and also claimed nobody ever proposed a wall that covered the entire border in the first place.

If the shutdown kept going, they would be saying that Trump will not be cowed. But since a deal has been reached with no Wall funding, they are claiming he has a master plan. I've never understood how people point to this as a smoking gun. They say tougher measures, they don't say a wall. All during this detente, the Democrats have openly supported more money for illegal immigration countermeasures - more agents, judges, etc. The only exception being the wall concept.

It's weird to reduce the discussion of illegal immigration control to whether or not someone wants "a wall" (maybe symbolically but not practically).

- Trump will not shut down gov't again when he does not get his wall as the gov't staffers being used as a pin pong ball by him twice would create far more outrage than keeping them out once, even longer.
- Trump may go the National Emergency route when he sees the Dems are offering nothing new, as his way of basically backing out of this wall thing as he knows that will be tied up in court indefinitely and he can move on

Ya, this attempt to reclassify what Trump wanted and demanded is a way to pretend that his failure is a win.

This was to be Trump's wall and it was to be nothing less.

Trump never wanted a fence/barrier, that was not a giant concrete wall and that is why he has over $1B from last January for Fencing he has never spent.
