The UFC had the lowest fighter finish rate of any major promotion in 2024

They can't have a ko bonus. Then the class action stuff starts up again. That's why they got rid of ko of the night. Your literally paying people for CTE. I know that's what they do anyway, but we like to avoid it. Same reason NFL got rid of all there biggest hits compilations and shit. Watching someone twitch on the ground is off putting to some.

Ped testing

Let them juice and we all win

More exciting fights + stars fighting longer = a better show

And yet, in the midst of all this Dana launches Powerslap, where you literally stand there to take undefended head shots.

It's literally in their rules you can't even flinch, which is the brains natural response to an on-coming impact.

Do the other organizations have female/flyweight/bantamweight fights? Those divisions generally have lower finish rates.

Any theories why. Higher fighter skill level? less incentive to take risks in fights? gloves?

"Any theories why?"

Higher skill level and better matchmaking. There are more knockouts when the disparity in skill is greater. A recent example would be Shavkat vs Machado/Garry. That was a very even fight as far as skillset. It wasn't an exciting fight and it went to a decision. Shavkat played it safe rather than take chances and go for a finish the way he has done in the past.

If there was 7 rounds or 9 rounds, Garry could had been submitted. Garry working with Damien Maia and others high level athletes was felt.

And all the while I made bank on betting fights to go the distance.

And then the inside the distance bets were paying more than usual because of the lower finish rates.

Good times. Hopefully more point fighting this year lol.

UFC light heavyweight division had a 60+% finish rate so I don't think it's all about just skill disparity. UFC's finish rate has hovered around 50% most years, with men's being closer to 55%, so this is a historically low percentage.

Garry did a great job in the clinch. The work with Maia and others has helped round out his skillset.

If i'm not mistaken, the new glove design was turfed based on a few reasons one of which was a lower knockout rate.

I made a thread detailing that the new glove era saw a significant drop in the percentage of KOs/TKOs.

Of course, nobody gave a shit about that thread because it had numbers in it and I forgot to include an Irish rapist's name in the title.

But basically the usual average is that 1/3rd of fights end in a KO/TKO but in the new glove era it was down to about 1/4th from a sample of about 250 fights.

Which is a significant drop and something that clearly spooked the UFC.

Either way, 2024 is not normal as there were less finishes whether it was caused by the new gloves or not.
