The State of UK Politics

you don't find it strange that u.k. laws are determined by a group of people who represent other nations, and all nations within the e.u. have to compromise for the sake of others? the entire idea of the e.u., at least to me, seems terrible. germany and greece, for example, are not at all similar countries. it seems to me, that is why there are such problems at the moment, and why so many u.k. citizens voted for brexit, along with issues such as immigration, which the u.k. had no control over, because their votes were tallied up with other european citizens.

from an outsider's point of view, i'd much rather have my own independence. it is worth pointing out that brexit did gain more votes, over not having brexit.
what laws of ours are determined by other nations? As a Scot I have some experience of another nation making our laws..... and the EU is far less intrusive than someone like say the UK government when it comes to making laws.

You guys really dont understand the EU system at all. Are you from the USA by any chance? The EU is a far less integrated union than the one you(possibly) live in, yet you claim to want your own independence. You guys are really naive, but thats to be expected when your nation is only a couple hundred years old.... plus some change.

edit: oh and stop with the nonsense of "the UK had no control of immigration" when it had a lot of control over immigration but just didnt enforce the powers it had.

ok, but the e.u. is intrusive then, isn't it? not sure why you sound upset, am simply giving my own opinion. yes, i'm from the u.s., like i stated earlier in the thread. and i clearly don't represent everyone in the u.s. it doesn't make sense to call, "you guys naive", when like i said before, more people voted for brexit than didn't, so wouldn't that make the majority of folks in the u.k. naive as well?

well most Americans in favour of brexit are pretty naive about the EU, so forgive me for generalising. Na the EU isnt intrusive, it lets nations run their own domestic affairs. The EU is mostly just a set of regulations that each nation has to adhere to(which actually benefit our societies). It has its flaws but the good outweighs the bad by a big margin imo

Also yes, the majority of people in the UK were naive to vote for brexit, but only because the campaign was full of disinformation. It was a fucking disgusting referendum based around xenophobia for most. My country had more sense and voted to remain(62% of Scots). We'll be far better off inside the EU and outside of the UK post brexit.

This
Also it was soo narrow a margin it wouldnt pass in parliment yet it was good enough to keep this shitshow running !we havent been allowed to vote again on it now that the yes retards have had a taste of what itl actualy look like either! Slimy bastards like farage will make a personal fortune for fucking his own country up ,literaly the definition of a traitor being held up as a patriot!!

The PM should never of been given the responsibility to come up with a Brexit deal. As everyone knows she wanted to stay in the EU, so how could anyone expect her to do a good job coming up with a great deal, makes no sense?
Why didn't the British insist the responsibility be given to someone who was pro-Brexit, wouldn't that of been the common sense thing to do. I just don't understand it.
Trump would of come up with a great deal if he were the pommie PM. Fact!

Britain is fucked, and it started with mass muslim immigration.

My prediction:

1. The UK will exit the EU, but it will be just for show and we will still be in the EU, we will exit in name only.

2. The UK will hold another election. By this point, the conservative party will split and UKIP will gain in popularity and become a true conservative party.

3. Due to the conservative parties voter base being split, the Labour party will win the next election and Corbyn will become PM.

4. I think Corbyn's anti-Jew, anti-multinationals front is just a front, he is a far left socialist and he will implement policies that will push the UK into disaster.

5. The country will go to shit real quick, the welfare state may break ... there may even be a civil war after a few decades.

Because as soon as they won the Brexiteer's bailed. They 'nope'd' their way out of power rather than try and implement their clusterfuck. That way they can continue to throw shit from the sidelines when they don't get their unicorn rainbow Brexit deal where they get everything they want and the EU tucks tail.

Who "nope'd'" their way out of power? Farage resigned from UKIP, and was not apart of any official "leave" campaign, nor was he in any position of power within UK government. Farage was denied repeatedly to be any part of the chosen vote leave campaign.

Cameron, who was a remainer, resigned as PM the day the Brexit results were announced, despite clearly promising he'd see through either result as PM.

Boris Johnson and Michael Gove, both staunch leave advocates were the early favourites to replace Cameron, but were forced out of the leadership contendership through allegations of backstabbing. Again, literally trying to become PM and implement their version of Brexit isn't "nope'ing" for power, especially as both stayed in senior positions in May's eventual cabinet.

So what 'Brexit' advocates "bailed" from power to shit fling?

Norway and Switzerland seem to be doing just fine without the EU globalism agenda guiding their paths. UK will be fine.

If enough of the leave faction wanted Johnson or Gove they would have been able to have them. Gove and Johnson couldn't stop their own infighting to even let either of them be a viable candidate. My (completely unfounded) view is that they were smart enough to not want the poison chalice they had created, knowing there was no way they would be able to actually please the majority of the leave voters and keep to the (ridiculous) promises of the campaign. Again, after the disastrous post Brexit election result, May would have been easily toppled had any of the Brexiters been willing to stand up and take the reins, but again, they nope'd the fuck out and left May to deal with the baggage.

You can't really criticise Cameron on the one hand for quitting after the referendum, while also saying it needed to be a leave MP to be a PM. He knew he couldn't and didn't want to try and shepherd through a leave deal. I agree he was idiotic to say he would stay on if Brexit won, but it shows he had no thought that they would actually lose the referendum, rather than just using it as a sop to the Brexiteers and to virtue signal to the conservative base. The disaster shaping up is just as much his legacy

You realise the Norway model means signing up to most of the EU requirements/policies/regulations, but having absolutely no say in what they are right? If May tried to follow that model the Brexiteers would completely lose their shit. It would give almost none of the supposed benefits of leaving the EU (bar the CAP, fisheries, and a few other things), and introduce a ton of negatives.

It's all Cameron's legacy and all his fault. He ran the previous election based on the promise of an EU referendum to stave off the threat of UKIP splitting the Tory vote.

He haphazardly called the referendum foolishly thinking remain would easily win, publically campaigned for remain but assured voters he'd be PM regardless of result. Threw the standing government and his own party into absolute disarray by rashly resigning rather than clean up the mess he'd made.

My contention with your post was that you suggested brexiters agitated for Brexit then washed their hands of it. That's completely untrue, and your follow up post did nothing to reaffirm that view. Cameron, once again, a remainer, promised the referendum, called it, didn't get the result he wanted and would rather completely fuck the country than deal with his mess.

This left the country with an unelected leader, who didn't believe in leaving the EU, leading over a party that was completely split and she didn't command enough respect (from the EU, from her own party, and most importantly from the voting public) to deal with the gargantuan task that is ahead.

Gove and Johnson quickly took themselves out of the running because they were seen as too divisive to lead the party after many considered their position over the referendum to be a ploy to become PM. How would May's leadership attempt have been easily toppled when the party was absolutely split over Brexit (with more remain MPs than there were Brexit MPs)? May was literally the last person standing for leadership. This is completely ignoring the attempts to oust May since her disastrous election.

As an Australian with a British mother and somewhat informed on the state of UK politics I’d have to say Jacob Rees-Mogg. He would give the UK a chance to be great again. I don’t trust Johnson and Farage, as much as he is to be admired for everything he has achieved, simply has too many enemies so I’d go with Rees-Mogg (even though in actuality he’s probably almost as long a shot as Farage)

The problem now is that far too many politicians are simply not even trying to make Brexit work. There’s all this hand-wringing, crying and moaning. Give the keys to someone with the confidence and belief to drive the UK to success under Brexit. I guarantee you the British enemies both within and outside the UK are hoping like crazy that British independence totally fails so a half-arsed leader like May will give them what they want.

Of the likely, I’d pick Johnson.
