This is pretty cool. Shortly after filming his role on season 2, he was diagnosed with ALS and it has progressed pretty quickly to where he's now in a wheelchair. He will be getting a role as a human this time around on season 3.

Plenty of virtue-signalling going on about the new LGBT characters in STD season 3.

Yet again, the diversity first crowd who supports NuTrek is revealing the fact that they aren't real Trekkers.

Star Trek dealt with gender identity in most of the Trill-intensive storylines because every Trill with a symbiont had the experiences of living as the opposite gender in several past lifetimes.

They even dealt with gender identity in TOS with the Janice Leister episode.

...and not only did they have a non-binary character on TNG, but they introduced an entire non-binary civilization in The Outcast.

This is the essential problem with NuTrek. The people writing the new shows aren't fans of the franchise.

Yeah, I beat you to that.

Whoops. I just saw that story on my Twitter timeline and felt the urge to vent without even checking the thread.
They think they invented moral messaging. [Real] Star Trek did it long before it was fashionable and used clever innuendo rather than overt virtue signaling that lacks creativity. The wrong people are in charge of Star Trek right now.

The wrong people are in charge of pretty much every established entertainment franchise.

We've seen Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who all get driven into the ground within a few years. It's mind-boggling.

Really its marketing for these people, just something to push a product not any real attachment to the politics.

You obviously get lots of revisionism but honestly Trek seems pushing it a bit far doesnt it? TNG era Trek was arguebly one of the most liberial shows on TV and as mentioned gender idenity amoug other things was very specifically addressed.

CBS needs to clean house. Like having a black actor (Sisko) as the lead, this has already been done before, no virtue signaling either

I always liked how Brooks saw things. Identity politics is cancer!

Again I think the issue really is that the entertainment industry has picked up on the way tokenism has been used so heavily in politics in recent years, a way of selling someone/thing otherwise without a great deal of substance.

Perhaps because Trek actually birthed the Mary Sue concept it was IMHO quite resistant to it during the TNG era, Westley early on I spose could be argued but I spose but that wasnt really tied into any kind of tokenism.

The difference is when Trek delt with politics it actively delt with them, it didnt just resort to tokenism so you have an episode like Beyond the Stars with Brooks that does actually have something to say about race politics.

There was some overt messaging in TNG, and other incarnations, but nothing as blatant and poorly delivered as nuTrek.

LOL Shatner is pissed about the fact that he wasn't invited to participate in this and the fact that he was given the smallest profile on the promo poster.

Although, given his recent dust up with the pro-trans crowd, I can't say that I'm surprised.
