Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

To say any movie or TV is objectively bad/good is to say there's something wrong with anyone who likes/dislikes it. For if anything like that is objectively bad, then everyone in their right mind should dislike it.

Everybody in their right mind should dislike it. Aside from the dogshit acting because nobody knew how any of those characters should've been portrayed or developed at that point, it's an incoherent mishmash of two completely different stories that should've been told in different episodes.

Yeah man, I keep hearing comparisons to early rough TNG to give STD a pass.

The big difference is that S1 of STD is their best, and it got worse each season, unlike TNG.

Kurtzman is such a freaking hack. Learning about secret hideout and bad robot, they are a parasite on the franchise, but clearly smart businessmen

I hear lower decksnis getting better, though I never got past episode 1

I watched the third episode even though I didn't plan on it. It actually wasn't that bad relative to the other two.

But the key word there is still "relative." Even if you try not to take it seriously, it's still pissing all over canon.

Sure there are bits of humor thrown into various trek episodes, but there has never been a comedic episode. All I'm saying is they are presenting it in a new and interesting way.
That's debatable.

What an extremely arrogant statement. Who are you to judge? This is why I hate anyone who says any creative work can be appraised objectively.

IMO It's a victim of Kurtzman-Trek not making any money and nobody being willing to pay for production of a new series.

That Section 31 series was supposed to start filming when STD season 3 wrapped, but there was no movement on it at all even pre-COVID shutdown.

Well, to be fair, people didn't like TNG early on because the show was legitimately terrible. Encounter at Farpoint is objectively bad television. There were also issues because of the screenwriters strike in season 2.

When Maurice Hurley got booted as show runner, the quality of the show increased markedly, and it became a pop culture phenomenon.

Kurtzman Trek is getting worse with each new season and series and has deviated from a ton of establishment norms of the franchise.
Both Strange new worlds and Season 4 of Discovery are starting production in Septemeber in Toronto. Section 31 is still planned to start filming in the Spring. Section 31 has always been planned far out, mainly due to Michelle Yeoh surge in fame since she started on Discovery, and CBS waiting for there new sound stages to built in Toronto. I don't understand the baseless claim that Star Trek isn't making any money? It's one of the most expensive TV shows in production, they are making new shows as fast as they can, due to the popularity. They keep getting early season renewals, and multiple parties are in bidding wars for international rights. CBS all access has been a huge success for CBS and has far exceeded growth expectations. 2021 CBS will be expanded All access worldwide. Sure sounds like it is failing....

What is your source for STD and SNW going into production next month?

Last interview that I saw with Kurtzman said that he was writing the scripts for STD and SNW and expected SNW to go into production next year.

STD hasn't even been officially renewed yet.

LOL Are those international bidding wars what's holding up Lower Decks getting international distribution?

There's no evidence whatsoever that anybody outside of a small dedicated online fanbase likes NuTrek. CBS, Netflix and Amazon don't release hard streaming data, and the ratings from the TV airings of Picard and Lower Decks that are available here in Canada show a decline in viewership for each episode of the respective shows.

Picard debuted at #6 nationally here in Canada. By the season finale, it had lost a third of its audience and finished 19th.

Shit, look at Google trends. No proof of sustained growth in interest in NuTrek since 2017. Discovery had a lot of buzz when it premiered, but then interest fell off of a cliff and never really recovered. Picard started off with significantly lower interest and petered out in similar fashion.

Now, let's compare NuTrek to a streaming Sci Fi/Fantasy series that actually has mainstream appeal.

Not even in the same fucking ballpark.

Kurtzman Trek is a disaster, and it's not going to be allowed to go on like this for much longer. Mark my worlds, SNW and Section 31 will never air.

Here's one of the best sources for production details. Goes into depth about production. Season 4 of DSC hasn't been announced yet, since season 3 has yet to air. Lower decks international release was delayed, because it was suppose to air late fall, but was pushed forward due to DSC being delayed in post, so they didn't have time to work a deal in Europe. CBS has also said they are shifting from selling international rights, due to the international release of of all access.

Google trend are not reliable to trek viewership. There are so many different search parameters and spellings. Ketwolski also has a video that goes into a detail on ratings, and how to judge them. I can look for it later if your interested, but I'm just on a cell phone at the moment In rural Alaska.

CBS would not keep greenlighting shows(let alone give them some of the highest budgets on TV) and enyend Kurtzmans contract multiple times if he was failing like you claim.

Also heres a new article posted this morning, that talks about the status of section 31

Question for people not subscribed to CBS all access. Would having DS9 and VOY, and thus the entire Star Trek catalog, restored in a full high-definition, be an incentive to subscribe to the service (or any other streaming service)? I was rewatching the DS9 doc, what we left behind the other day, and the HD scenes they restored were simply gorgeous. Also a great film if you guys haven't watched it.

I already have access to TNG, DS9, TOS, ENT, and VOY (not that I need it) in high definition.

If we're aiming at Odo, what stood out to me was : If Odo copied the hairstyle of Bajoran Dr Mora, than why do all changelings have this haircut.
Because they copied Odo. When he went to the Changeling home world for the first time, that one came out of the link looking very similar to Odo. Probably to make him more comfortable, or just because it was an easy frame of reference for them. I mean, why would they want to greet him in the form of some random alien species they encountered in the past, or looking like Major Kira because she was with him?

Yes midnights edge, who for years has claimed to have "insider sources" on the imminent firing of Kurtzman, or how Discovery has been canceled, or how Seth McFarland is leading a group of investors to buy Star Trek, ect.....

I will give them credit, they do have a well polished video editing style. If only they presented a non-bias opinion.

Must watch video. Be careful when you watch videos from certain sources, who claim to have "insider info"

Ketwolski, who has one of the fastest-growing trek channels, is known for doing advance research before posting any news. He was contacted by the 4chan group who was leaking these fake stories to the "fandom Menace" YouTubers, who include, Midnights edge, Doomcock, Mecharandom, Nerdrotic, etc... who all hate new star trek, and pretty much everything in star trek, star wars, marvel etc... They have worked together to keep leaking these fake stories and putting messages in them, to prove these channels supposed "insider sources" are just them reading 4chan.

The stuff about that getting "exposed" is ridiculous. They always qualify that the leaks are unsubstantiated and might not be true.

Those channels have gotten a lot of stuff right. E.G The leaks for Game of Thrones season 8 and The Rise of Skywalker. TROS leaks were in detail and getting updated in real time throughout production by disgruntled Lucasfilm employees, and some of the leaks were posted on 4chan first.

No point in arguing about it. We're going to see if Kurtzman-Trek is going to continue as is within the next few months.

Not all are as bad as the other, but they are all guilty passing internet rumors off as if they have insider knowledge. I have seen numerous videos from them, where they say they have spoken to employees inside CBS or Lucasfilm, when in fact they have not. In the video, he plays multiple examples where they have not done any vetting, but pass it off as fact. They are for profit business and they know clickbait and being the first announce something will get the views and the $$$. These guys and the random nameless blogs that repeat these rumors, unfortunately, get passed off as facts by unsuspecting people. I will say Midnights edge, which is the biggest of those channels, has gotten better about posting just outright lies, but they are still master of the clickbait and manipulative thumbnails.

I guess they forgot about about Jnaii from the TNG episode Outcast, but I guess she wasn't technically transgender. Sounds like they are both going to be Trill's. The comment section is pretty funny, with your standard mix of right wing religious nuts complaining that this is wrong, and Gene Roddenberry was a strict conservative military man, not a progressive.

I always thought a cool way to address the gender thing, would to explore the Andorians. They have 4 genders, and all four are needed to conceive.

Yeah, “first non-binary & transgender characters”, my gender-nonspecific ass. Star Trek was way ahead of the supposed woke crowd on all of this shit, many characters of all different genders & identities, going back decades. The fact that the modern custodians of so-called Trek don’t know this, only underscores how little a shit they actually know or care about the history of the universe they are supposed to be continuing.
