Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

I would have like to see Geordi LaForge is some DS9 or VOY.
He was the core of the Trek mechanics.

Too busy directing I guess.

I considered that this 'Soong son' might actually be Lore. What do you think?

That's the first thing I thought of. I think they either used parts from Lore or they were buying Borg tech from the chick 7 killed for killing Icheb. I also think that body that Jiradi is going to help with, will either be to bring Data back, or they will transfer Picard's essence into it, and he will become the bridge between synthetics and organics

He was in one episode of VOY. He was in a alternate reality episode as the captain of USS Rhode Island, a galaxy class ship, and tries to stop voyager

Maybe we see B4 and Lore in the next episode.
Or maybe Wesley Crusher with his Traveller powers.
Geordi and Worf will be in next season. I'm betting we will see Riker, leading the battalion of ships in the finale. In the book, Picard fought to make Worf captain of the Enterprise, which star fleet finally agreed too. Geordi was in charge of the ship building on Mars, but he was not on planet during the attack, so he's alive

OMG. Now that I think of it.

The latter is what they will do. And it will be a cliffhanger.

Then perhaps the synthtics, Romulans, Federation and Borg will all unite to take out the baddies. Either that or they will see how synthetics and organics have merged and will not destroy. Kinda Mass Effect 3ish if that what happens.

If anyone wants CBS All Access, they are offering everyone a free month right now. Just use the code GIFT

I just rewatched Wrath of Khan. What did Spock tell McCoy to remember right after he did the Vulcan knock out thing before sacrificing himself?

Spock's katra (which is his consciousness). Spock transferred his consciousness into McCoy. Have you seen Star Trek III? It all comes to fruition in that movie.

I did watch III, but forgot. I remember lil' Kid Spock but don't remember any download/upload.

I was liking episode 10 up until we got to see what the really horrible ending was.

Why the fuck do we have to see Data die a second time? It was unnecessary to do that. Also, Picard is now an android? Fucking ridiculous.

I will not be subscribing to CBS All Access to watch season 2. I gave this show every chance, and overlooked many of its flaws, but I can't overlook how shitty that ending was to season 1.

I liked the beginning of the season, then it meandered a bit, and finally it had a pretty poor ending. Thank goodness the current season of Westworld is grabbing my attention because between this and the lackluster ending of Altered Carbon's second season I'm pretty bummed about the state of science fiction on television/streaming.
I hate it when shows try to milk the impact of a character dying only to bring them back (especially immediately). It's cheap and ruins any potential stakes that might follow because now the viewer knows that the writers are just willing to pull a convenient explanation out of thin air to deliver a happy ending. That the episode had previous instances of magical android science to move the plot along doesn't make it any better.

There are so many plot holes in Picard that t's ridiculous. With episode 10 the 'previously on......' bit at the start told you exactly what was going to happen at the end wasn't even subtle about it.

They should have spent a bit less money on the effects and a load more on the writing and story.
That seems to be a common problem with most recent Sci-fi shows/films. They look cool but the story is complete rubbish.

If the Romulans are desperately seeking the synthetics planet wouldn't sending 218 ships out looking for it have been a better plan than having them just sit by a Borg cube waiting?
If you had the ability to make synthetic people, wouldn't you also have the ability to randomise their appearance? Every game you play does.

Rios and the holograms didn't work.
The Aussie ninja made no real sense. Having a Jedi with just a sword wasn't really needed. At least light-sabres can deflect laser, a guy with a sword is just going to get shot, that's what happened to them in a world with just bullets.
Why is Raffi the only person in the universe to call him JL?

10 episodes just to find a crew for s2 seems a bit of a waste of time.

The writers definitely sometimes seem to lack respect for established Trek. That ending was putrid.

So what did you think of ep. 10 @sverre054 ?
I actually thought the first half of the episode was pretty lackluster. It was pretty predictable, but did have some moments that left me with a smile. I loved it when Riker came in and saved the day, but having 200 of the same ship was pretty weird looking. I kinda hoped we would see Worf on the Enterprise E, but you gotta save some stuff for next season. I actually liked the design of the ship, but it was just copied and paste. Apparently they did some reshoots less than a month ago, and post-production finished just last week, and was behind schedule due to the Coronavirus..

The second half was better and tied up loose ends nicely. Data has always been my favorite character, and I held out a sliver of hope he would be brought back, but I thought they actually gave him a great send-off. I thought it was a beautiful scene. Apparently Spiner really did not want to bring Data back to life. He doesn't want to deal with all the make-up now that he's in his 70s, and Tey also had to do quite a bit CGI wizardry in post-production, to de-age him. Spiner and Stewart both acted phenomenally. They leave a lot of loose ends, but most of the ones I had issues with, were apparently lost in editing. Micheal Chabon just did a Q&A and filled in most of those details.

All in all, it wasn't a perfect show, but I loved seeing those characters again. Some of the early episodes were far too slow in parts, while speeding over important scenes. I understand that some people took issue with the political aspects of the show, but I really think that's nothing new in Star Trek. Picard is not TNG, but they have said from the beginning that It would not be like TNG. It actually had a lot more fan service, deep trek knowledge, than I ever expected. Overall I would give season one 7.5/10

PS I would be all for a Captain Riker Series. Send him out with a small fleet on a deep space assignment, and get the Federation, back to exploration.
(If you guys didn't notice, he filmed his scenes on the bridge of the Discovery, that was dressed up a little. They filmed it, while he was filming his episodes of the upcoming season of Discovery)

Select questions from Chabon's Q&A. There's actually around a hundred on his Instagram stories, if anyone interested. Lots of backstories is answered. https://www.instagram.com/michael.chabon/

What became of Narek?

Yeah. Narek. We know, we know. A casualty of the editorial process, alas. The intention was for him to be taken into Federation custody.

What about the xBs?

We shot a scene intended to show Ramdha and other xBs beginning to form a kind of community with the Synths under the auspices of Soong. In the end we couldn't find a place for it that worked and we felt that losing it didn't hurt too much. Maybe we were wrong!

Which came first, the Admonition or the Sisters prophecy Narek spoke of?

The Admonition predates Romulan civilization by hundreds of centuries. If Romulans had not chanced upon it, their history would be very different. Their pre-existing mythology of Gamadan just gave them a framework for interpreting their experience of the Admonition.

Are they really sentient if Deanna can't sense them like she did Lore, Lala, and Data (when she felt)?

The emotion chip and the creation of Soong androids encountered by Troi represent an earlier approach to android emotional engineering. I think Troi or any Betazoid could be trained to read the emotions of the current generation. (OP: Also, recall that there are species that Betazoids can't read, including Ferengi.)

Will Jurati face legal punishment?

She will put herself in the hands of the law.

Will Soong build himself another Golem?

Probably

Are the Starfleet ships' designs influenced by Star Trek Online?

I don't know the answer to that.

What was the class of Riker's ship? And was that filmed in Toronto?

It's a Curiosity*-class ship* (OP: I was right!)And yes, shot in Toronto where Frakes was busy directing DISCO.

Was there ever discussion of having Q speak to Picard, a la Tapestry?

No, never.

Why was Data kept like that when he could've been put into a Golem?

If he could've been put in a golem, he would've been. Soong's golem was not operational and, as he says, he had abandoned work on it until the seeming imminence of his own death renewed his interest in it. What's more, that was a highly sophisticated reconstruction/simulation of Data's consciousness, as Data explains, and not a fully accurate, literal transcription thereof.

Why does Starfleet have so many of the same ship? Do they have any others?

It would be odd and unprecedented if they didn't!

Was the set of DSCs bridge used for Riker's ship?

There was far more cleverness, skill, and wizardry involved, both practical and digital, than your question implies. (OP: While the chair and bridge stations seen behind Riker are clearly from Discovery, the over-the-shoulder shots facing the viewscreen show other stations and details.)

How was Narissa still on the cube? Didn't she warp out?

She beamed, not "warped," and "away," not "out."

Are the evolved AI beings the same who altered a probe in Discovery?

If so, it's news to me. (OP: In Discovery, the probe was altered in the far future by sentient AI Control. In Picard, the evolved synthetic life came from the distant past.)

Did Rios keep the deus ex tool?

It is an important point of honor for Rios that he return what was borrowed.

I wish more had been done for JL advocating for the xBs. Cut/seed for s2?

It would be a good thing, for them and for him.

What did they do with Picard's corpse?

I wondered the same thing!

Can we hope for the (Seven-Raffi) relationship to be explored in season 2?

I hope I don't get in trouble for saying, yes.

How much did you have TOS androids in mind?

Well, I remember Kirsten Beyer and me cracking each other up with discussions about the android duplicator in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?"

What was one concept from your original pitch to Patrick that you wish stayed in?

Picard as the road/stage manager of an itinerant interplanetary theater company, alone in an empty theater, acting out a scene from Krapp's Last Tape just before the planet he was on got assimilated. Not sure I wish it were still there, but it's fun to think about.

Why didn't Oh kamikaze the synths?

I'd like to think she was listening to Picard and Soji, but maybe that's just because I believe in Star Trek. Perhaps she thought it would be more effective to live and fight another day.

How much time between Picard's resurrection and the final scene?

Long enough for loose ends to be tied up, the xBs seen to and their safety arranged, Seven and Raffi to hook up, Jurati to hire a lawyer ...

Would the advanced synths be concerned that the beacon stopped so abruptly?

Who even knows, after 200,000 years, if they're still "advanced." Maybe they've devolved.

Will S2 go deeper into the Romulan rescue?

In a way.

Section 31 ... how much do they know about the Zhat Vash and do they care?

Section 31 has always kinda seemed like they have their heads too far up their own asses, to me.

If you could bring two Deep Space Nine characters aboard La Sirena, which ones and why?

I'd love to check in on Garak and Bashir. They're always so much fun to hang out with.

In-universe explanation as to why Starfleet's armada looks the same?

They actually don't. Because they aren't. ... I am working to confirm, but I believe there are actually four distinct classes.

Was Oh indeed half-Vulcan, half-Romulan?

Yes. Her parent's were re-unificationists. Or so her Romulan mother wanted it to be believed.
