Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

Picard has some great episodes, but the overall plot and story has been pretty lackluster.

Season 3 which comes out in Feb is supposedly really good according to several early reviewers, most of whom haven't cared for Picard or DSC. It's basically going to be a 10 hour TNG movie, whereas seasons 1 and 2 were not very Star Trek, because that's the only way Stewart would do it.

Strange new worlds is incredible and has pretty much gotten universally great reviews.

Maybe I’ll just check out Season 3 of Picard and Strange New Worlds. Just wish there would be new Trek and not a retelling of past Trek.

Lower Decks worth checking out?

Show runners just murdering the character or what?

Its just a shitty sequel/nostalgia series.

If you'd like a more detailed breakdown, I reccomend Critical Drinker's review of Season 1.

Season 2 is so horrible he quit a few episodes in. Getting the YouTube money from making reviews for the series was killing the love & respect he had for the original series.

Lower decks is great. It's funny and packed full of cool star trek lore.

Just saw 11 episodes of the The Center Seat docu. Nice.

As a fan, Picard is not great, the storyline was unclear to me sometimes

And why did they have to kill Icheb ?

To show why 7 was no longer in star fleet, and why she was in the rangers.

Get ready to feel old. Deep Space 9 premiered 30 years ago today. Time to start a rewatch

Well the reviews are now starting to pour out for Picard season 3, and they have been universally stellar. Basically we are getting the 8th and final season of TNG, not season 3 of Picard. I know many didn't haven't liked Picard, and it's been mostly disappointing to me aswell, but every indication is that this is the best Star trek since DS9

I would like someone competent to take over Star Trek at Paramount and announce that Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and Picard were part of another universe (not Kelvin, but not the original Series Universe). That would satisfy the true fan base, and the people who like non-canon stuff can still have it.

I have seen positive reviews of Picard season 3 as well, and I will likely check it out.

Something in the nature of saying it was just Data having a dream?

What's the true fanbase? Is that the same fanbase who wrote letters early in TNGs run to complain about it not being there Star Trek? Discovery and Picard have had issues. Discovery has steadily improved throughout its run and has responded to fan criticism. Picard has been a very unbalanced first 2 seasons. It has a few gems, but also a bunch of clunkers. Strange new worlds, Lower Decks, and Prodigy have gotten rave reviews from both critics and fans. So if you have actually watched the new trek series and have valid issues, I would love to hear them, and discuss them. If you're basing it off one season of DSC you thought was too woke or random youtube critics who cause drama for views, I would encourage you to give some of the shows another try.

I don't care for it. I think people are praising Strange New Worlds because they have had so much poor Trek production in their faces at this point that it seems good relative to what else they have seen. Strange New Worlds also completely changed the continuity. World War III took place in the 2000's in this show. Trek is fiction, so there is no need to rewrite it's history. It would be best to say it is not in the same universe as Roddenberry/Berman Trek.

I haven't checked out SNW but Mike at RedLetterMedia said the characters act like teenagers and are constantly making quips. He sai he can't take it seriously. To be fair that's all I know of it but generally their ST opinions are fairly in line with mine although I seem to have much more reverence for DS9

I do kinda wanna give new Trek a try, I just don't have much free time and I'm usually doing other stuff. Picard and the bits and pieces I've seen of Discovery turned me off to it

DS9 is still the best. It doesn’t get any better than that.

I like some of RLM stuff, but the thing is there Trek reviews are some of there highest view count videos. Negative reviews drive the views. Some of there criticism especially about Picard is valid, but I think it is also very exaggerated and over the top, which they need to be to drive views. There are alot of people who don't even give it a chance because of these reviews, which is a shame. If TNG premiered in the Era of youtube critics, they never would have gotten a second season, let along revive the franchise for 20 years. I have a few friends who have seen the first 6 episodes of the new season of Picard(many of which don't like DSC or Picard) and say it is amazing, and you also don't have to know everything that happened in Picard's first 2 seasons

I think Strange ne world's actually fits in pretty well in the universe. DSC biggest mistake was trying to edge itself in the time line it did. They have corrected many of the mistakes they made in Canon early on, and have moved to the distant future to tread there own path, which they should have done from the beginning.
