Some of the characters are also not very well done. Some of them behave like grade school children, and it is worth noting that constantly questioning the actions of your superior officer on the bridge of a ship during a crisis is unusual (at best) and sometimes downright unsafe. The show is sometimes good but often painful to watch.

We need grown ups doing Star Trek again.

I strongly disagree about RLM. Many of their Trek reviews get a high amount of views but a lot of/most of their reviews of well known stuff is right up there with them in views (even a lot of their BoTW episodes where they just review B movies) and their Trek reviews make up a very small percentage of their overall videos. I've never gotten the impression that they're rage farmers, quite the opposite in fact. If they're rage farmers they're terrible at it because they routinely put out skits and often review obscure movies/shows that aren't that popular and skip most of the stuff other people complain about for views. For example, Mike's review of Strange New Worlds is in the middle their 2022 Catch-up Part 2 video and I don't even think he spends three minutes on it. He spends longer on shows I've never heard of or only heard of in passing.

While Mike has a lot of praise of TNG he's also criticized several episodes of it too, Rich Evans as well.

I also have criticism of the early seasons of TNG, DS9, Enterprise, and all of Voyager despite enjoying them all.

I might give the third season of Picard a try but that first season really put me off to it, so did the bits I saw of the second. And it wasn't just like a decent show with some rough writing, I had problems with the fundamental structure of it. We'll see though.

Edit: Mike of RLM actually liked one or two of the new Trek movies too, and one of them I watched I strongly disliked. I think it was the third one, I don't even remember the name.

It has a lot of potential, thanks to a solid trio with the Cpt, Spock, and #1. Anson Mount is a great Captain, and I really like the actor playing Spock. Rebecca Romijn (#1, still would) carries herself very well, they are just limited by the awful writing.

It's better than Discovery and Picard, but that's not saying much. Those shows are abysmal on every level. I couldn't finish season 2 of Picard and I bailed out of Discovery once they jumped into the future. I can't believe I even got that far into either of them, though I did give them a chance.

Like @RedBeard_ said, these writers suck. It's been nihilistic trash. While they have tried to course correct with SNW, they just don't have the talent, or respect for what came before.

There are a lot of rage tubers out there who only focus on negative content for clicks and $$. Many of those channels have hours long livestreams, often daily, of the most low effort rage bait. It's freaking embarrassing, however, RLM are not among them. They don't post as often, and generally have well thought out takes on whatever they are covering.

Their review of Picard season 1 is total passion project, perfectly encapsulating how the new regime just doesn't get it. The last 10 minutes of this masterpiece says it all; timestamped

I think they really nailed the casting on strange new worlds. The entire main cast is likable and has compelling plot line already in season 1. I was really bummed when the engineer died. DSC the main cast isn't great, and Burnham has been written terribly as the lead. I've watched all the season, and I still forgot many of the cast members names or what there job on the ship is but the story has improved over time. Picard cast was actually pretty good, perticularly Rios and Rafi, but the story and episode quality has been very sporadic. I didn't think Lower decks would work because it's a comedy, but I have loved it. Each episode really feels like a TNG Era episode and is packed full of cool lore. Prodigy is clearly meant for a younger audience, but they 1 season has been great. Compelling story, involving the Voyager crew, and fun excitment for new fans.

I think this could be the last season for DSC and Picard. I think they are going to use the finale of Picard to launch a new series featuring some new crew we meet on Picard. It will become the new primary series. I think in place of DSC we will get either section 31 show, or a Star fleet academy show.

They have said the star trek shows have gotten great ratings and have helped drive Paramount+ fast growth, and they ideally want a new trek show airing throughout the entire year.

Honestly, I got a bit pissed off when Enterprise was a prequel because I wanted to see the story continue. Then I got more pissed off when Discovery was another prequel. Then I got even more pissed off when the Discovery writers were so fucking greedy to lock all of Star Trek history into their own creative vision that they sent the crew to the distant future so not only could they retcon the past, but also totally write the future in what has been one of the shittiest Star Trek shows to date in my opinion. To be fair to Discovery Enterprise had already shit the bed with this with the whole Future War angle, but at least that kept things really vague... It's like the Discovery writers saw the turd in the bed and figured that was their excuse to eat Taco Bell for a week and go to town in the pillowcase.

I'm also getting really sick of multiverses being used to explain every new writer coming in wanting an excuse to treat source material as a convenience and just write whatever they want. Given the number of settings adopting this approach though, I think corporations are deciding that it's an effective narrative mechanism to free themselves of the hassle of having to try and respect the material that came before them.

Yeah, I pretty much like the entire cast of SNW. Like someone mentioned though, the Marvel-esque jokes drove me nuts, the stakes are compromised because of it. They made the non-binary person the most annoying worst offender too, always has a stupid smirk on their face. Hopefully S2 is a bit stronger!

I love the intro theme/sequence, sets the tone for the more hopeful aura they are going for, they just need better writers.


I'd love for them to release their viewership numbers/stats.

Parrot analytics has the most accurate streaming ratings, and all the Trek shows have done well. CBS hasn't cheaped out on the new series, and they are in the upper echelon of budgets for TV series. They would not be renewing these shows and putting out so many if they weren't driving subscribers and making the company money. Keep in mind that CBS has gone through all sorts of chaos during this time, and has survived multiple regime changes at this point. If Trek wasn't bringing in the $$$ it would be the first to go in cost cutting.

Apparently, there is a dominion war plotline in the new Season of Picard. I'm guessing it will have to do with Worf.

You should look up the film that was supposed to take place after Nemesis. Basically, TNG, DS9 and VOY crews have to team up to finally take out the borg. Sadly Paramount producers gutted nemesis, slashed the budgets, and insisted on letting a first-time director who knew nothing about Trek, direct the film, rather than Jonathan Frakes

I always felt that not creating a Captain Data series was a missed opportunity.

Why was Data even in Starfleet if he was not going to become a Starfleet Captain? The best Starfleet Captain of ALL-TIME. That is the premise of a show which should have occurred after DS9. It would have been logical.

It would not have been about him being the "best of all time." It would have highlighted both his strengths and his weaknesses as an android. I agree that would have been an interesting concept, but it didn't come to fruition because they expended his youth on making blockbuster films.

I wanted to see them do a show where they elect a new president of the federation after the dominion war, and the campaigning is done on a bunch of the devastated worlds. So we would get to bounce around the federation and see some consequences from the war, and also get to explore strange new worlds etc
