The latest lower decks was a fantastic love letter to the Star Trek films.

Lmao like any kind of Love letter could make up for all the stab wounds

Honestly, Lower Decks might not measure up to the original series or Next Generation, but it's far better than Voyager and Enterprise.

Voyager may have completely sucked through and through, and Enterprise may have had its weak points, but neither of them were morally offensive (completely challenging Star Trek's foundation and purpose).

Exactly

They had some weak stories

But they didn't piss in gene roddenberry's eye

I disagree about Enterprise not being morally offensive. I remember being super pissed at "Anomaly" with Archer torturing a prisoner.

Nickelodeon and CBS Studios today announced that Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager) will reprise her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway in Nickelodeon’s all-new animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. The news was revealed today as a surprise announcement during the Star Trek Universe virtual panel at New York Comic Con. Additional casting news will be announced in the coming months.

Kate Mulgrew stated, “I have invested every scintilla of my being in Captain Janeway, and I can’t wait to endow her with nuance that I never did before in Star Trek: Prodigy. How thrilling to be able to introduce to these young minds an idea that has elevated the world for decades. To be at the helm again is going to be deeply gratifying in a new way for me.”

Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman said, “Captain Janeway was held to a different standard than her predecessors. She was asked to embody an inhuman level of perfection in order to be accepted as ‘good enough’ by the doubters, but showed them all what it means to be truly outstanding. We can think of no better captain to inspire the next generation of dreamers on Nickelodeon, than she.”

“Kate’s portrayal of Captain Janeway is truly iconic, and has resonated with a global audience for many years,” said Ramsey Naito, President, Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to see her bring this character to life in a whole new way, while continuing to be an inspiration for both new and loyal fans.”

Developed by Emmy® Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman (Trollhunters and Ninjago) and overseen for Nickelodeon by Naito, Star Trek: Prodigy follows a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation. The CG-animated series will debut exclusively on Nickelodeon in 2021 for a new generation of fans.

Season 3 was mostly trash. The entire series wasn't episode after episode of controversy though.

yeah I didn't like season 3 of Enterprise either they try to do this huge overarching storyline that wasn't very good

But at least it wasn't offensive to Star Trek's Legacy

I like season 4 there was a lot of good standalone or two and three partners that I enjoyed

Season 4 they were left alone by UPN, and Manny Coto was allowed to run the show the way he wanted.

Brannon Braga originally wanted the entire first season to take place on earth, and be about them sturggelibg to launch the ship, and get out from under the thumb if the Vulcans. By mid season 1 a whole new team of executives took over at UPN, and they wanted to shift to a teen focused network. Braga and Berman, had to fight weekly with UPN who were constantly trying to interfere with the show, and make outrageous demands, like wanting the boy band 98 degrees to appear on the show and preform.

One of the worst thing about Enterprise being canceled was we didn't get to see the Romulan/Earth War, and the formation of the Federation. I would love for them to bring the cast back for a mini series to finish those plot lines off, but that will never happen

Finally one of my favorite ships is officially canon in the season 2 finale of Lower Decks. They will also be a key part in season 2.

It did seem to be the point were they finally had some kind of unified idea as to what they were doing, before that the show always seemed half looking to TOS revivalism and half time travel arc that would probably have been better suited to a TNG era setting.

Having Dr Who kind of mini arcs did I think suit the material well, gave enough time to flesh out stories beyond just nostalgia references but didnt get too drawn out.

I still don't get how you can be OK with "decontamination gel" but be offended by the mild humour in Lower Decks. STLD writers have a fairly evident love of the shows in all variations, and the characters live up to the ideals of the Federation.

Honestly I think part of the problem Voyager had is that Janeway was made a bit too perfect, Picard was obviously a pretty strong moral centre for TNG most of the time but there was also a bit more to work with dramatically, he had some weaknesses in terms of being quite closed off to others personally and his dislike of children.

As we've seen many times since a "strong female character" lacking in weaknesses tends to me the drama of the story doesnt revolve around her as much.

Kurtzman gave a interview today talking about Star Trek and stated how much extra money they are spending per episode due to Covid. Season 4 of DSC just started production. Strange new worlds starts filming in Toronto in January, and Picard will begin filming in December pending on California.

"I’m going to give you a rough number and say that it’s something like between $300,000 and $500,000 additional per episode [for PPE safety gear]. That’s just for keeping people safe, and that’s not a number you can skimp on…
…there are so many things we’re learning, [and] there’s no show that’s not worth keeping people safe for — that’s the goal."

People seem to love that final Lower Decks episode. Need to catch up.
