Television The Star Trek Thread V6.0

You didn't get past the Intro?

<Varys01>

Come on you got two dumb characters talking about how they want to mess with hunky guys and then wrestling with a trans dimensional space bubble

Then you got the captain talking about what cool things could she say when she goes into warp

All this before the opening credits

I was legitimately going to try this episode

But I'd rather watch Star Trek

That's some kind of lowbrow family guy nonsense

Picture cancerous AIDS, but with more vomiting.

Got damn, lol

Dude, now I am not saying the quality will be comparable. But the two scenes you describe? This absolutely could have happened on Orville. Imagine you would have given up on that right away.

Oh wait <seedat>

The Orville isn't star trek

Or as dumb

I want to watch honest to goodness star trek if it says it's star Trek

Even Orville is more thought provoking and faaaaar less crap to wade through

Rumor is CBS is posting lower deck on YouTube for international viewers until they have the new all access international service up

They already disactivated that again for Germany.

With only two episodes it's hard to call it a pattern, but Lower Decks seems to be doing a mini-sode at the beginning of every show, which is completely disconnected from the actual episode itself. So it's not entirely helpful to judge Lower Decks purely by the before-title scene.

Still though it's just too much nonsense overall

I don't care to see where the story goes with these entities that talk like regular people

If it was any other show it could be forgiven but I can't accept this as Star Trek

Interesting. ST isn't meant to resemble present day, I find it strange that they keep doing this with the new content. It's a basic fundamental of the franchise

It's literally going against the core values and premise of the show

Humans were supposed to be enlightened and better

There's nothing compelling here

I used to like the thought-provoking moral issues and intrigue

All the show does is make me more retarded. And as you can tell I can't afford to get more retarded

This is a show for dumb people

They're not trying to appeal to the fans of the core audience

This is just for stoner drunks and even I don't like it

"insider sources"

I love these click bait blogs. Earlier this week they posted Patrick Stewart was going to quit the show, because he was upset with becoming a "Golem". Despite the fact, he is an executive producer on the show, helped write the episodes, and as recently as last week had an interview about how excited about season 2 he was, and gished about there recent writer's room meetings.

There's no hard data on the US viewership, but there is on viewership in Canada. Picard lost a basically a third of its audience here by the fifth episode of the season.

I'm guessing we'll see that trend continued downward when the numbers for the rest of the season are released.

Also, if numbers for STD and Picard were actually as badass as CBS claims, they would release them.

Regardless, we're going to see if all of the rumors are true when the third season of STD drops. If it's as a bad as they say and has been reedited to be a finale, then NuTrek is basically dead.

New Update:

aka The Only New Trek Content That Matters These Days:

Part 2 just dropped

I think you can see what there getting at, a lot of the episodes that typically turn up on TNG best of lists tend towards being character ones, big moral lessons or those that really advance the setting yet you could argue really a lot of the meat of the show were more one off plot heavy episodes.

I did always enjoy that aspect of the show, perhaps part of why I didn't feel it dropped off as much as some claim in seasons 6-7, you could argue the character stories did lose some of their drama by that point as stories had been played out. A lot of the plot heavy episodes though I think still benefited from having a really well worked out formula by that stage.

The "spookey phenemon" episodes were always some of my favourites and I think that's an aspect that other Trek series always struggled to do as well as TNG(arguable Voyager should have had alot more of this kind of thing). Cause and Effect is a big one and Remmber Me with Crusher finding everyone vanishing but there were some really good latter episodes as well like Timescape(Romulans and frozen time) at the end of season 6 or Parallels(Worf shifting to parallel realities) in season 7.

Hopefully we do get another 5 episodes each from Mike and Rich, it is a bit strange its taken this long for them to look at Trek they actually like. Maybe cross over to the darkside and start with some Babylon 5 reviews? ;)

Hey meow, you're not dumb, cut that shit out sir!

Agreed on everything else. If I want shiny objects dangled in front of me I'll watch a Michael Bay movie. I'm hoping someone eventually gets in the writing room of some Trek show or movie who has love and talent for the franchise like some of the people making Star Wars like Dave Filoni.

I wonder if anyone would make a show, mini series, or set of movies about the Eugenics War? Seems like an interesting time in Trek's history, would require very talented writers though and people who know... anything about ST.

Kurtzman has already said they have season 4 halfway written. I expect the renewal will be offically announced when season 3 drops in a few weeks. None of the streaming services release ratings, but they have said Star Trek is there most popular series, and subscriber numbers have been much higher than expected.

All these bloggers who claim to have "inside sources" have been proclaiming since Discovery launched that the ratings are actually horrible, the show has been canceled, Kurtzman has been fired, new people are being out in charge, ect. They wouldn't keep producing one of the most expensive shows on TV if this was the case. They wouldn't continue launching new series if this was the case. They wouldn't be giving Kurtzman longterm extensions to his deal if this is the case.

Cbs all access will be launching either 4th quarter 2020 or 1st quarter 2021. It will launch internationally, and will be likely be rebranded as Paramount plus or something similar with the Paramount name, which has more appeal to a worldwide audience. It will be expanded to cover all of the various properties controlled by the now remerged CBS/Paramount

I'm watching that DS9 episode with Morn falking his own death.
All of his gangmates from Liseppian Mothers Day heist try to
get their share of the 1000 bars of gold pressed latinum from Quark.

The Janeway Protocol explained (Lower Decks E02)

Same here. I liked the progression of the show, especially with Quark and Nog.

I would say the writing wasn't as consistent as TNG and perhaps the cast as a whole maybe not quite as good but I think it also hit greater highs dramatically and the Cardasians are definitely the best alien race in Trek with Garak, Dukat(pre pah wraith anyway), Tain and Damar some of the best characters, Kira by far the best Trek female character as well IMHO.

I do think the rivalry with Babylon 5 actually worked very well for both shows as well, both constantly pushing forward trying to outdo each other.
