The Wilson AV makes sense:

We watched it Friday night. I saw The Shining like 20+ years ago as a teenager and don’t remember anything whatsoever about it.
I still liked Dr Sleep a lot, and my wife who’s a huge fan of The Shining, loved it.
No annoying woke garbage either.

I don't understand people who make threads without even bothering to proof read the title once before clicking post.

it's very different from the shining. even though it constantly references the movie, it obviously doesn't have kubrick's style.

doctor sleep was a good movie and it has a couple of very good scenes (the scene of one character flying through the night stood out), but it seemed like it was trying to be a sequel to the shining the film, and to be an adaptation of stephen king's novel. knowing how different the shining film and novel were and how much king hated the film, i don't think that was necessarily what they should have gone for and they could have skipped a lot of the references to the shining film's imagery.

doctor sleep actually reminded me a lot of 2010 the movie. it's obviously very different in style and substance from 2001, but it's a good movie in its own right.

the book was better, Stephen King's books dont end up looking too good in movies

I pretty much liked everything except for the
unleashing all of the ghosts to kill Rose.
. That felt very cheesy and fan-servicey. Other than that, it was pretty great. Rose the Hat was the best movie villain in years, Ewan did well and Abra was a great child actor that was instantly likable.

I kinda wish that Flannigan stayed away from the Kubrick stuff and just did a straight adaptation of the book. I'm sure the studio wanted all of the Kubrick stuff though but I felt that brought the movie down. Thankfully there wasn't too much but what was there didn't feel necessary

I've seen the movie 3 times now and my favorite scene continues to be
Rose astral traveling. Such a cool scene and I love how all you get is ambient sound and a heart beat for seemingly 5 minutes. It's amazing and unlike anything I've seen in a movie. It's a wonder they let him put something like in a modern movie.

Loved Dr Sleep, it far exceeded my expectations, Rose The Hat stole the show.

This movie was spot on and great. They did a great job with casting the true knot and rose the hat and snake bite andi were great. Both weirdly hot as hell.

I kind of had a serious issue with the race swap of Abbie from a blonde girl to a black girl, but the actress was great in the movie. I still think it was an unnecessary change to the story, but it worked out. My only issue with that is that there would be so much negative press had it been the other way around. Obviously King was ok with the swap, but I hate when they change things like that from the book.

Moderate spoiler. The ending is way different from the book, and the last thirty minutes were radically changed, but it was my favorite movie of 2020 so far, and it will he tough to beat. I was very impressed with this adaptation, which is so rare. Even better than the It remakes.

they went for more of a sequel to the film which was radically different than Kings text so it does make sense actually.

I couldn't get through the book so I'm not too excited for the movie. I thought what I read of the book was pretty stupid.

Yeah, I think the weaker parts of the movie were when they called back to Kubrick film. It did feel very fan service-y and cheesy, but I suppose that's what you get when making a Hollywood movie.

I haven't read the book, but the weird esoteric visuals and atmosphere threw me off the movie pretty quickly. Maybe if I finally read the book, it'll make more sense on screen.

Definitely didn't like them recreating scenes from Kubrick's Shining as flashbacks/dreams. Didn't really capture the creep factor for me.

Its actually a REALLY Good movie that stays true to the book. My GF is a real Horror hipster that hates 90% of Horror movies but she loved this one. Its not scary Horror but just a good storyline. 9/10 would recommend.

Yeah, as I said it blends Kubricks ending with kings
