The Pub - Belph's Battle with Anorexia

You cleaning more than 140kg?

For whatever reason some bumper plates are oversized. Maybe it's cheaper to make them like that, or maybe it appeals to ego. I know the ones at my gym are proper sized - I've never seen anyone run out of space on the bar.

It would be 180kg. And no. No, I'm not. I'm just curious why the reason would be. Aside from ego, cost reduction to produce them? A less sense rubber that is cheaper to manufacture?

Is it bad if I think that people who use 3 15kg bumper plates per side for bench to get 110kg are douchy?

On another note; what's the deal with bumper plates? You can only fit four 20kg plates per side with those huge black ones.

When I do deads, I just use one of the 20kg bumpers and use normal 45's next to them (they are smaller and easier to load).

They are cheaper, softer, have a wider area of contact with the ground and are supposed to be more durable (and possibly easier on the surfaces they are dropped on). That's why they are called "training bumpers".

Gotcha. Thanks, meow. Do they dead stop or do they have significant rebound?

Lol?

Of course they rebound. If they didn't they'd cause damage to themselves and the floor in short order.

From my understanding there is rebound that is fairly minimal and then there is bouncy ball rebound.

I, uh, meant 140kg. As in if you're not cleaning 140kg, then there's no reason to start worrying about 180kg. Of course.

Depends. If there's a lot of extra bumpers, and it's loaded that way because of how they worked up, I'd think nothing of it. If there's not a lot of bumpers, using them on bench is dickish. If it's loaded that way just so it's three plates it's dumb as fuck because anyone who really cares won't be fooled.

Hitemp bumpers (the most common ones) are made out of cheap recycled rubber in Bama.
They're as big as they are because that's just how much of the rubber it takes to be XXlbs. The majority of quality bumpers have metal cores.
Hi temps cost next to nothing by comparison so every CF gym has a million of them.

The fancy joints are all rogue elite-plated out. Dicks. With their money...

I usually make 30k jumps on my deadlift warm ups so I tend to have 25's and all 15's.... pretty douchy.

Well we only have 3 pairs of 15's and 20's and 2 pairs of 25's as bumpers at the gym. Then some metal ones. My ego lifter of a cousin usually just takes all the 15kg plates to do bench or T-bar rows. The kicker is that he actually gets mad if someone else is using the said plate if he plans to use it.

Actually he's just a douche anyhow.

I mean, it depends on the weight on the weight on the bar (the more weight the less bounce) and rubber training bumpers are probably more "bouncy" than thinner bumpers with denser rubber and iron core, but competition bumpers still bounce quite a bit.

Luckily, this is not a problem for me. The only metal plates we have are up to 5kg. 10kg and up are Bumpers. The only time we run out of Plates is when some of the monsters are training; the guys who Deathlift 300kg for Reps. Usually, there will be only one of these Mutants in the Gym at any one time. But if there's a group of them training at the same time, Plates disappear faster than a sunny day in Scotland.

My gym has a 45lb plate deficiency. There is, however, a fuck load of 35's. There is a rack on the second floor that is seldom in use that has 10 45's. I usually go right upstairs to do most trainings now.

Competition bumpers are way more dead stop than econ bumpers.

I train with both and I don't think the difference is huge.

Could it be that you haven't lifted as heavy weights using econ bumpers?
