The Patterson Footage .....

When I was a kid, I really hoped Bigfoot existed. I remember seeing stuff like this and being fascinated in it.

Then I got older and realized it's nonsense. Watch the show "Finding Bigfoot" for a great laugh if you want.

If you want to tell me there's giant monkeys roaming North America that nobody has found in 15000 years of living here, then you need to bring something more solid than a "footprint" that a child can fake.

lol Earth is only 6,000 years old

Your credibility = zero

You'd think so but a lot of old timers I've hunted/camped with have led me to believe otherwise. I've brought up bigfoot on several occasions. They laugh but somebody always brings up cougars. Some of these dudes have spent a LOT of time in the backcountry and have never come across any cat remains or even heard of someone who has. If they do exist I'd like to think they'd be smarter than an big cat but at the same time I think a prime cougar could take a bigfoot easy. And kills are relatively common to find in some areas so somebody would probably notice a four foot femur and massive ape skull.

Idk, just my 2¢.

That's VERY anecdotal.

Do you know how unimaginably rare it would be for a 7 foot tall species to be living in our wilderness and have never found 0 evidence? No one has caught one, the only footage is from a grainy video, no fur, no dna, no droppings, no footprints, no bones, no fossils, nothing?

It really doesn't though. People believe in all sorts of stupid shit.

I think there's a difference between people believing in something and seeing something, though.

Many people believe in God but very few would claim to have seen him. Conversely, not many people believe in centaurs, but if you saw one you'd recognize it.

Of course there are liars and the deluded and those who honestly misidentify things. But I don't feel comfortable dismissing every single one of thousands of reports as being due to one of those three things. I feel like I should at least be open to the POSSIBILITY that something weird is going on in those woods.

It is absolutely true. No photo or video is going to convince someone who doesn't believe it possible. They'll only look for how it's fake, not whether or not it is fake.

Well obviously any sensible person will look to see if it's fake.

Just a decent photo or film on modern kit that isn't obviously a man in a monkey suit would be a good start. Or some fur that has the right genes, rather than the bear ones they found.

Proof is proof - you can't deny it. Produce it and they'll believe. They have not got anything even close to proof. Not even anything I'd call good evidence. The lack of such is very telling. Only True Believers and the terminally gullible believe these fairy tales.

It's not like we're asking for something amazing. A breeding population of them is gonna have produced 1000s of corpses. One of those or a skeleton would be just fine.

But I'd bet my house no such thing will be forthcoming

Agree with this. Many people go into these things with the intention of disproving them rather than from a position of neutrality.

Print evidence is bountiful. Meldrum, Bindernagel, Green and Krantz have all collected casts. There are no confirmed specimens to match recovered hair to, and recovering DNA from shed hairs is highly unlikely.

From the book, "Bigfoot: Encounters in New York & New England."

Dr Gerald Lowenstien from University of Cali on a hair found in Pike Peak Colorado. "I've tested these hairs for all the major groups of mammals that have large specimens - like deer, bears, and so forth, and it only reacts to the primates. And of the primates, it only reacts with hominids. And there are only five hominids: human, chimpanzee, gorilla, orangutan, and gibbon." Lowenstien believes that the hair belongs to a "large animal closely related to human and chimpanzee,".

Profesor Brian Sykes of the Institute of Molecular Medicine at Oxford University on the result of a hair found at the base of a cedar tree. "It's certainly mysterious...there was a plump follicle there. We normally wouldn't have any difficulty at all. It had all the hallmarks of good material...We found some DNA in it, but we don't know what it is." "It's not a human. It's not a bear. It's not anything else that we've so far been able to identify - a mystery. We've never encountered any data that we couldn't recognize before..."

I also posted a link earlier ITT (post #161) where samples were analyzed and came back unidentifiable.

As for fossils, Sasquatch may already be represented in the record with Giganto.

That's because it is faked.

You got me!

I'm open to the possibility of anything, but I have yet to see any credible evidence of a giant ape roaming our woods. When is the last time something that large was discovered in America that we didn't know about before then?

If Bigfoot really does exist, and someone one day really does capture it on video, wouldn't they necessarily have to be "exactly in the right place at the right time?"

It would be the same for UFOs, I'd imagine.

But Patterson was telling people he was going out to look for Bigfoot and was talking about making a Bigfoot film before this video was even taken.
That and his general character really suggests it was a hoax.

I'm not saying that people with questionable characters should be instantly dismissed, but in things like this pretty much everything weighs up to it being a hoax.

Everyone saying this is clearly a guy in a suit are being foolish.

It's not that easy.

Their inter-dimensional creatures. They also may hide their tracks purposely.

See, just as I said.

When a credible photographer publishes photos and video, I'm more than happy to accept them. When Methhead McGhee uploads a grainy cellphone video of a blur in the woods, I'm assuming it's a fake because I'm not gullible.
