"The overall ability has dropped in MMA" - Jon Fitch

I disagree and agree. Yeah the sport has evolved but bjj was for self defense. As the sport has evolved the self defense aspect has regressed. There's tons of things that work in a bjj match under their rule set that don't really transfer into a real fight.

I applauded eddie bravo for combat jj. I think with the addition of open palm strikes things like leg locks won't be as successful. Some of these more intricate guards won't be as successful.
All martial arts on some level is for self defense, we are talking about sport. You think the top BJJ guys now don't know self defense? Most of that stuff is white belt basic shit

I think about 20% of sport BJJ techniques won't work in MMA, but that can be said about every art including Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, etc.

Wait till some of these modern BJJ guys like Garry Tonon, and Neiman Gracie continue going in MMA, they're proving the new innovations in leg locks absolutely work in MMA

Ironically Neiman Gracie just finished JON FITCH with a Heel Hook

This blanket never learned how to strike wtf is he talking about. The most evolved fighters are right now by far.
The lame guys always like to pick on stuff that they can't do. Usman is the champion of his weight class, WW has always been grapple heavy anyways so it just sounds like sour grapes from him. Striking is a fundamental part of fighting, not everyone is interested in being lame.

The problem is wrestling takes a lifetime to be proficient at and it dominates in MMA. So you have these uber skilled well rounded fighters who get kept down by D1 all American and Russian grappler type guys and that will never change hence the appearance of stagnation
Every art takes a lifetime to learn.

Is that a heel hook or a knee bar? I see the foot placement but I feel like he's trying to snap his leg in 2.

You are right and I will continue to listen to the "boring opinions" of Jon Fitch as well because I recall his knowledge. But I think it's silly you tie Israel into this.

He would shut a guy like Fitch all the way down.

He would shut Fitch down and KO him most likely. but would love to see Israel vs elite MMA wrestling especialists as Weidman or Sonnen.
The best MWs who could introduce TDs and grappling into the matchup are Mousasi and Lovato imo, happen to be out of UFC.
Casually, same happens at LHW with Davis and Bader.
Fitch was 13-1 in UFC at some point, it was still denied even a tittle eliminator
With this incentives we will keep watching prizefighters focusing his training much more in standup; this doesnt necesarilly translates to "evolution" in overall ability. You can agree or disaree but that's basically Fitch's point

What is your opinion of the Joker and how he stands as a possible title challenger and also compared to the best grapplers we've had at 185.

I personally think the guy is legit up there with the most days submission artist

Didn’t he just get outstruck and submitted in his last fight??

Yes he is, I have more doubts about his TD ability and has got caught before; let's see how he handles Till. The most interesting match up left for Adesanya in UFC currently imo.

Maybe, the fact a conssumate wall & staller is the current dominant champion proves him right though.

Usman is much more of a wall&staller than Fitch was btw, and has more limited ground skills.
And is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more damaging than Fitch ever dreamed he was.

Prime Fitch doesn't beat Usman. I think he's dead wrong.

Izzy has beaten wrestlers

Who is the best ground fighter he has faced?

Romero is undoubtedly a wrestler yet I don't know any elite wrestler of 42 years old, even Karelin left the elite 10 years younger. Much less in MMA with low gas tank.

I totally disagree, some of the best guys like Anderson, or GSP would still do very well

Overall from top to bottom of the card, the ability has gone wayyyy up though

Even in the amateur, and lower level shows the guys look so much better than they used to, the sport has evolved a TON in the past 15 years
Fully agree. A few of the old guard could still compete - the top, top guys. I don't think Fitch would do better today than he did then. I think I'm out of likes so I "like" this.

The likes shouldn't be limited, this is communism

Is this true?
.

No idea. So says Fitch, seems to be the case though. He also says he is working on a project to get prospects social following for more leverage with promoters.

Fitch wasnt champion in his prime neither. He'd be an elite gatekeeper today as well although there is more depth everywhere, including at gatekeeper status.
I still give prime GSP the edge over Kamaru btw

Same. I think Fitch would do worse and GSP would still be champ.
