CM Punk didn't really care about or respect the business. Don't get me wrong, I was on board with the Summer of Punk and his title reigns after. When he abruptly quit, I initially backed him but since then I'm really turning around on my perception of him. We're hearing more and more about how he wasn't easy to get along with on top of constantly complaining about his booking and the booking of those he viewed as friends or had potential.
He was always sold as an indy guy that didn't fit the mold but had a passion for the business and it was that passion that broke through and made him one of the top guys. He got to the pinnacle of the business and was still in one of the top spots when he left. He constantly complained about his booking and made it seem like he was being held back and threw numerous bitch fits about guys like Roman and the Rock getting certain spots over him. The Rock got a top billing at Wrestlemania because 1. He's The Rock and more importantly 2. He was trying to help the company that put him in a position that he is now.
Here's the thing, when have you ever seen Punk try to get the business over as a whole as opposed to only getting himself over? I think that was one of his main problems. Say what you want about Cena and some of the others, but they are actively trying to do what's best for business. Punk was just always out for himself and for that I can no longer see him as some sympathetic character or tragic hero of sorts.
