I haven't seen this film in quite a while, probably since the 90s. Now I know why, this has to be one of the most dullest academy award best picture film winner ever.

It slow as molasses. Don't get me wrong great acting throughout, but the movie just doesn't grab me or get my attention. It's a very slow grind.

But yeah what's your thoughts on this film?

Did you felt it was like a chore to watch it?

Anyone actually enjoy the film?

I gave it a 6.

Oscar bait movie won the Oscar. I'm sure they paid their bribes like all the others.

Always thought it was one of those films which was well directed, well acted, well shot, great visuals, great sounds......just the story wasn't for me.

If you buy into the nonsense that is these Awards, doesn't stand out as a particularly bad winner, imo.

Was up against Fargo, which is one of my all time favourites.

Miramax was more or less buying the Oscars
There is a book by Peter Biskind regarding 1990s Sundance-Miramax "Indie" scene that explains how they will do it

It's a boring slog, but does check all the boxes. It's mid-tier in terms of bad "Best Picture" winners. "Crash" kind of elevated every other questionable winner in history.

Really? Very interesting. It's like when Shakespeare In Love won over Saving Private Ryan.

Is Shakespeare in Love from Miramax?

While I don't think Crash was worthy of award, I do remember being able to watch it without being entirely bored.

The problem with this one is I've never been able to watch it fully. It's just boring.

just like the grammys the oscars are meaningless, anyone who takes art seriously should denounce both these organizations.

That's fair, but you don't think any award given at the Oscars for best picture or actor/actress ever was deserving?

There has been a few times where a movie makes a clear highwater mark that year and clearly deserves that award, but more often then not this is not the case.

Every few years they stumble backwards into a decent winner. Usually though , it's not for the reason that makes the movie actually good.

Yeah it's definitely a hit or miss kind of thing. I don't take the Oscars religiously speaking. But I think they get the right choice most of the time imo.

But to each their own.

Should have paid more to get Pulp Fiction the statue over fucking Forrest Gump.

Perfect example of a film the Academy was predetermined to love vs one they would dislike.

Am I right in thinking they gave it to Driving Miss Daisy one year, too?

The English Patient was BORING and this is coming from a guy that can handle slower movies.
But lets be honest, look at the last bunch of years:
Anora--Ok film, softcore porn, is it amazing or groundbreaking? Hell no.

Oppenheimer-Good film, but overly long and is very slow. Amazing? Nope.

Everything, Everywhere All At Once--I love Yeoh, and I love Sci Fi. This got about an 80% on popcorn meter, and that is where it fits to me.

Coda--I can see why this won, total Oscar bait. But was it a great film? Calculated and predictable.

Nomadland--If you don't like The English Patient, you can't be hypocritical. This is just as slow. I can see why it won, but it is dull.

Parasite--First film where I agree with the win.

Green Book--Cliche city. Reverse Driving Miss Daisy. Critics keep dropping the ratings over the years.

The Shape of Water--I didn't like this, but at least it was different.

You have to go all the way back to 2010 to get a string of great winners. The Kings Speech, Hurt Locker, Slum Dog, No Country and The Departed.
