Well I appreciate someone actually attempting to defend the source. Apparently, that's quite the tall order for most on this board.

But is that really how you'd summarize that exchange? It looked a lot like one guy squirming from giving a concrete answer. Not rebuttals.

The average exchange was:

That doesn't come off as someone correcting anyone. It comes off as a guy dodging the question. And I get it, he doesn't want to be the one responsible for a such a stupid policy.

The green deal makes the grandiose claim that within ten years a country with the travel volume of America will be able to expand high-speed rail to a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary. So it would seem reasonable to ask questions like, what technology are you using? How does it work? How is it made? Where is it made? What infrastructures are in place to create something of this size? Will you have to build new infrastructures before yoy can even start on this? Who is going to be making all this? What is the cost? And so on.

It is a NON BINDING RESOLUTIION. It is a rough draft plan to get shit started. It is not a set of laws, or a guranteed plan to go completely green in 10 yeears. It is a way to staart the process.
The costs have been talked about .. How to implement it is described. How to pay for it has been talked about.
Had you actually READ the plan, you would know alll of this.

No way is the country ever going to be traversed by trains rather then automobiles or planes.

We're doing more to reduce it than any other nation on Earth already. We've cleaner air and water, in fact some water has gotten to clean creating negative impacts. Clean energy comes from nuclear reactors, not windmills and solar. Build salt reactors, get clean safe, affordable energy.

The charge is technically different, but it isn't hard to see the confusion. They don't seem that different. She was technically wrong on the charge, but it wasn't the ridiculous mistake you're making it out to be. Her point of why the white supremacist groups can't be classified the same way the Muslim group was her point, and it's a valid question.

Again, we are the 2nd largest polluter in the world. How much we're reducing doesn't mean shit if we're still the 2nd biggest polluter WHILST having the power and resources to change our emissions much more dramatically AND pressure other nations to do the same. We are 5% of the human population and emit the 2nd most amount of pollution. That is fucked up.

The GND is not only about solar and wind. It is about ANY clean and renewable energy. It is the government giving incentives to companies to develop new tech. Take away subsidies to oil companies and invest in renewable tech. That doesn't just mean solar panels. It's looking at our farming techniques, it's looking at carbon capture tech, it's very open on what we should be doing to get clean.
Im down with nuclear energy if we make it safe. But we have to actually invest the money to get there. We have to have committees and debates on this in the House and the Senate. ..debates that have been blocked by the Republicans

It's cheaper to buy the new equipment and cleaner to run. Nevermind all the set aside, set backs, and water conservation practices we are forced to adhere to by the ASCS offices.

You're still not understanding what the GND is. You cant have an honest conversation about this if you aren't going to start on the same page as I am.

The GND is not law. It is not an exact plan. It does not say the technology exists to do everything it wants to do. It is the direction we should be going. That is the point. So I dont know why you're focusing on trains. It isn't a Shinkansen bill. Again, you could actually read the thing yourself to see exactly what it says.

The purpose of the deal is to get the government to make the environment a priority. Whether it be via trains, electric cars, WHATEVER technology available or fields that need government investment, that's what our priority should be.

It's a silly point to quibble over. This story didnt happen yesterday so the details weren't fresh in my mind
But it isnt the enormously stupid, embarrassing gaffe youre making it out to be. Most of these stories are just a lot of dumb nitpicking. Arguing over the difference between a domestic terrorist and a home grown violent extremist, as if the latter is common knowledge by anyone outside the FBI.

Aside from that, I dont see what conservatives are bitching about when it comes to the GND. The GND doesn't forbid nuclear power. But it isn't a completely safe technology. And events like Chernobyl and Fukushima are going to make people hesitant to go full nuclear.

But the GND is not a solar and wind energy bill. It's for ANY clean and renewable energy and tech.
And it's not just about energy, it's about stopping our reliance on oil. It's about addressing the massive amount of pollution, garbage, and waste. It's about leading the world to be more clean.
Again, we are only 5% of the world's population and still the 2nd highest emitter. 5%.
What we need to be doing is getting places like China and India to get on green technology. It's called global warming, not North American warming.
What we do and dont do here, and what China does and doesn't do goes beyond our borders.
