Taking Beatings & Forgetting Names

Thanks guys. Liquid, not sure I follow in regards to the "Stand in cold water while on your walk" comment...

Picture yourself walking. You see water. Go stand in it past your knees. I'm guessing the water in San Fran is rather cold and might feel good.

Thanks Enright.

Liquid - gotcha. If I see something like that, I will definitely consider it. If not, the ice bath will have to suffice.

Wow, that's a huge accomplishment, Martin. Great work.

How's your weight? Fighting at 151, or 165? Are you going to have to cut at all?

Thanks Brandon. Just a local event, so I dont have to make a particular weight class. Fight's at 160.

are you still at 152?

neverminds its at 160

im also 5'10 and am having trouble making 152 from musclemass and strength added

A fight, and less than a week before that a motherfucking marathon? You're more of a man than me....

Recovery
  • 10 Minute Ice Bath
  • 20 Minutes Stretching
  • 15 Minute Fast Walk

Notes:
Yesterday, could barely walk. Today, other than my hips being a bit sore, and my hammies a little tight, I am good to go. Hopefully, will get some sparring in tonight. The ice bath was pretty rough, but I got used to it...or got numb, one of the two.

Mirror Shadow Boxing: 1 x 3m Round

Recovery
Ice Bath: 5 Minutes
Stretch: 10 Minutes

Notes: Legs are feeling a LOT better. Ice baths are amazing for recovery and testicular fortitude. Sparring went well, and all 4 rounds were at the volume and level of "busy-ness" that I want during my fight. Conditioning seems to be where it is needed, and I am recovering well between rounds.

I was talking to one of the coaches who works with the younger fighters, and he was talking about one of his 12 year old fighters. He's talking about how long the kid's arms are and has the kid come over. We both put our fists out, and mine falls an inch short of his chin, where his is in full contact. The kid has longer arms than me, and he's like 4'9". Crazy. He's good too. Going to be a terror in a few years.

A2 - Its ridiculous. I watch him sparring with other kids and he can just keep them feet away from him with his jab...southpaw jab, by the way.

As if the reach wasn't bad enough....he had to be a southpaw lol. How is his stamina, precision and power in relation to the other kids at his level?

Well, they're kids, so they just go forever. He doesnt always dominate because we have some real good younger fighters at the gym. I think it will be most interesting to see how he develops as he gets into his teens.

Wednesday, July 29th

Jump Rope: 10m
Stretch: 10m
Shadow Boxing: 6 x 3m Rounds
Sparring: 8 x 2m/30s Rounds
Calisthenics: 5m
Stretching: 5m

Notes: Didnt really perform "well" during sparring, but I did put a lot of work in. Lots of punches, lots of moving forward, lots of activity. Defense wasnt great, but I think it was good prep work for Saturday.

Thursday, July 30th

Jump Rope: 5m
Stretch: 5-10m
Shadow Boxing: 6 x 3m Rounds
Sparring: 6 x 2m Rounds
Stretch: 5-10m

Notes: Last day of hard work. Basically just a warm up and then straight to sparring. Went 3 rounds and then 1 out, and then another 3 before closing it down. My coach said it was good work and that I look sharp. I FEEL sharp.

Friday/Saturday Plan:
I need to make 160, and I am just a few pounds over. Friday, I will just limit my water and food intake, and have my last meal right after a light workout. Probably just a chicken breast, some veggies and a scoop of metamucil. Will do some visualizing and meditation after training. 10 minutes or so of imaging all the worst things that can happen and becoming OK with the possibility of them occurring. Then 10-15 minutes of putting everything together on how it SHOULD happen. Will watch some fights and chill out the rest of the night. Wake up Saturday and check weight. Have a few sips of water, assuming I am where I need to be. Weigh-ins are 10-12, and the doctor is at 1. Fights start at 2, assuming its on time (haha). Depending on where I land on the card, I will either have 1 or 2 peanut butter, banana and honey sandwiches. Then wait to go to work.
