Taking Beatings & Forgetting Names

Wednesday, July 15th

5+ Mile Hill Run (Accelerate up hills)
5m Shadow Boxing
2.5 Mile Walk

Arthur The Two: You got it, mang.

Liquid: Good call. I'll keep that in mind.

Cap'n/Enright/SB:

My sister just ran an half marathon in 1 hour and 42 mins. If you can't beat that time, you bring shame to S&P.

Awesome. Sorry I snubbed you on FB today, I wasn't paying attention.

Will be lurking!

Thursday, July 16th

Morning
2 Mile Punishment Run - STEEP Hills

Evening
5m Jump Rope
5m Stretching
8 x 3m Shadow Boxing
3 x 3m Rope Drills
2 x 3m Focus Mitts
6 x 2m Sparring (heavy bag in between rounds)

Notes: Worked on being the aggressor more. I have a tendency to work on slicks and counter punch off of people's mistakes, but I sometimes end up getting out-worked with that style, especially with the amateur boxing scoring system. Worked on using head and body movement to get inside and go to work to the body. Found that this worked in a lot of ways. For 1) Even when I get hit, it would nullify the impact a bit, since I am getting guys back on their heels with the pressure, 2) the body work opens up the head for hard shots, and 3) my conditioning is worked harder with this style.

Absolutely love the new log name, love love love.

Good shit man I plan on working hills more after my upcoming fight such a good tool that I never utilize, but that will change. Looking back at my log my first fight I did more LSD this upcoming fight I did more burpees, hopefully for my 3rd I find the balance but if not I will be focusing on Sprints and Hill Sprints.

Good work man, keep it up.

Thanks man. I should probably do more of the calisthenic-style stuff. Agree that a balance would probably work best. Hill sprints are good shit though, thats for sure.

Friday, July 17th

Jump Rope: 10m
Shadow Boxing: 10 x 3m Rounds

*wait around* 30 Minutes (light shadow boxing)

Sparring: 12 x 2m Rounds

Sparring went well. Went a few rounds with some of the newer guys, and then went 9 rounds with my coach. He landed some beautiful uppercuts that split my guard, and my nose is still sore (3 days later). My body work was paying off, and I am finally starting to be able to really dig that left hook under my opponent's elbow to the ribs.

16 Mile Run

Last long run before the marathon. Actually wasnt too bad, although there were some rough points. I should have checked the elevation changes while plotting the course though, because I ended up going up the worst hill in San Francisco, a very steep, very high hill that lasts for close to a mile. I hit this about 12-13 miles into the run, so my legs were not pleased. Bringing in electrolyte pills and that carb gel stuff helped quite a bit, although I would just like to say that San Francisco has no where near enough water fountains.

Nicely done, Martin.
