Strongest ufc welter weight ever

Strongest in terms of raw strength? I don't think it's GSP. Hughes, Lawler, Lombard, Hendricks prob all had more just raw strength, maybe some others. GSP had strength, don't get me wrong, but skill and technique were his best traits.

A lot of people here forgetting just how legendary GSPs strength was earlier in his career. His first fight in the UFC he essentially just powered out of armbars by Karo, and Hughes was known as being an absolute powerhouse at ww even putting on a good showing against Ortiz at ADCC and GSP overpowered him every time they tied up. Then there’s all the training stories about him overpowering guys like Sonnen and Rashad who were a good bit bigger than him.

Having said that I’d still probably put Lombard above him but it’s much closer than many realize.

Pre usada Hendricks seemed pretty strong, even though I hated him as a champion.

GSP is way too high on your list IMO, he had great timing and fight IQ. Lawler is stronger than him. Hendricks would be up there, Woodley and Usman too but Lombard was probably the strongest WW ever.

The Lombard muscle up story was on JRE either episode 235 or 302. Josh said a bunch of fighters in the gym were trying muscle ups and failing then Lombard goes and does 20 in a row like it's nothing.

Muscle ups are more about timing, athleticism and technique that require a certain bit of strength, but strength isn't the main ingredient.

Lombard was still a monster though, and also a failed PED test recipient. Hughes is def up there. Hendricks too because he had a tremendous supplement routine. Sherk was also very strong.

Usman has the best real world strength.

I doubt he deadlifts the most but when grappling, technique aside, I bet he feels the strongest.

The problem is guys with thick stubby legs like Hughes don’t have the athleticism and leverages to use their raw strength the same way in real life situations. They are very good at basic and slow lifts like squat and deadlift but in real life situations which are fast, explosive, and from weird positions, usman has the ideal strength physique. Strong lean and long legs with a jacked and shredddd upper body

Hendricks pre usada, GSP himself said he was ‘ too strong.’

Yeah and since Lombard never did a muscle up before that he didn't have the timing or technique so it's even more impressive.

I think you're mixing up timing and speed with power. Not saying GSP was a weak guy but Karo wasn't all that strong compared to most WWs and from what I have heard from Sonnen and Rashad talk about grappling with GSP they mostly talk about how good he was at setting up takedowns and how fast he was and how good his timing was. I don't think he's in that group of guys like Lombard, Woodley, Hendricks, Lawler and prime Hughes in terms of strength but he had better timing and fight IQ than all of them and was faster than most too.

Yeah surprised to see so many dismiss it. Anyone who dominated the top of a division for years with wrestling is freakishly strong. GSP and Hughes have my vote. One of GSPs best traits was his power double FFS, a technique built on strength and explosiveness.
