Strength training for the puny

They look flimsy, but I've seen the guy from Beastskills.com do some pretty cool shit on them so I guess they must be sturdy.

I was doing l-sits to handstands and tuck planche push-ups today and they were rock solid.

Bought the stuff at B&Q for just under a tenner, I went with about 8" of clearane off the floor, the higher you make them the less stable but the less flexible you have to be to work up to inverts and the deeper you can go.

Could always make them from 2x4s and 1.5" round wood to make something truly indestructible.

Today's training

Bench:
20 (44) x5
50 (110) x5
70 (155) x3
90 (198) x3
100 (220)
110 (242)
120 (264)
Nearly threw the last one for distance, flet like a toy, got an in-club comp. week tomorrow, should go for some new maxes on bench and dead.

Muscle-ups on bands over pullup bar:
5x1
Pullups:
5x5
Dips:
5x8
Handstand pushups, cuban presses, extrenal rotations.

20 rep OH squats:
30 (66) x20
KB swings:
16 (35) x50
Built a KB from a D-lock, following Alan's ideas.

GPP and MMA training

Every now and again I say I'm going to start putting my martial arts training and cardio into this log, it never lasts, but I'm going to have another go.

Yesterday I went round to mate's house, he's got a tractor tyre in his back garden.

Sledegehammer swings - Lots of sets, working on normal two-handed overhand swings, roundhouse swings into side of tyre (damn good for rotational core strength), one handed overhand swings (from end of 8lb sledge, hello wrist strength), and a grip with one hand halfway up the shaft bouncing the hammer off the tyre and trying to hit it again as quickly as possible without a backswing.

Movement drill - one person leads, the other follows, trying to stay just at the edge of punching range, moving forwards backwards and sideways. Then add jabs into drill, person leading moves other guy around and then holds up glove for jab, follower throws jab, forces you to react to opening and checks the range. Then work in level changes to stuff takedown attempt.

One-two then kick drill - One guy throws jab-cross, other guy kicks to exposed ribs dutring the cross. First guy then checks kick by turning into it and throws that side hand back at opponent.

So this drill would be - right, left, opponent kicks to left side ribs, check kick, left, right, opponent kicks to right side ribs, check, right, left, etc.... Drill cycles, repeating for a minute or two, then swapping.

Sparring - Boxing only, my hand skills are suffering from serious lack of use atrophy. Was improving rapidly though, getting sat down more into my punches, getting some semblance of headmovement back and loosening up to throw smoother combinations.

Pummelling - working for underhooks, taking it in turns to set up takedowns every few seconds. No-gi equivalent of uchi-komi. Focused on working to double underhooks, single leg pickup and on turning into harai (see Karo's last fight).

Last heavy training day before comp.

Comps. on saturday decided to build up to 115kg on bench and make sure I was happy with that being my starter.

Bench:
20 (44) x5
50 (110) x3
70 (155) x3
90 (198) x3
105 (231)
115 (253) Easy, left a long pause on chest and threw it straight up to lockout.
DB Bench:
30s (66s) x5x8
Muscle ups on band 'rings':
5x1
Feeling better on these, going from dead hang and just using a kick forward of the legs to rotate myself through the transition at the top.

Some pullups, DB BORs, cuban presses, seated external rotations and one handed pinch (pinch felt like ass, think my hands are just a bit beaten up).

Cheers, doubt i'll go heavy on squats, i've been kind of slacking on them recently. Will go a fter a semi decent bench and may go for a PR depending on first two lifts, will definetly go for a 210kg dead PR.

I probably don't even need to say this, but of course I'll be filming the lifting this weekend.

Good luck! I look forward to viewing the footage.

Yes, I also look forward to viewing maybe some bench footage, one squat attempt, and some backgrounds with white letters stating that you pulled PR's. :icon_chee

I know, I knoqw, i have a history of having camera men who make mistakes, the first PLing comp has everything but my first squat on it (of course that was the only one that actually was successful).
The bench on the last one was hilarious, there was only one vid and it was of my spotter's back, you could just see my legs on the right of the shot.

You'll be filming, as in handing the camera over to some noob who has no idea what he's doing, so your first two squat attempts will be lost forever?

Heh, good luck anyway, Smash!

EDIT: Damn, somehow missed Zerocrew's post. Oh well, this shit still stands :icon_chee

nobody loves me...*sniffle*

When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone
Livin alone
I think of all the friends Ive known
When I dial the telephone
Nobodys home

All by myself
Dont wanna be
All by myself
Anymore

Hard to be sure
Sometimes I feel so insecure
And loves so distant and obscure
Remains the cure

All by myself
Dont wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
All by myself
Dont wanna live
All by myself
Anymore

When I was young
I never needed anyone
Making love was just for fun
Those days are gone

All by myself
Dont wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
All by myself
Dont wanna live
Oh
Dont wanna live
By myself, by myself
Anymore
By myself
Anymore
Oh
All by myself
Dont wanna live
I never, never, never
Needed anyone

Please tell me you copy and pasted that and wasn't able to type it out from memory.
