Benching up a storm: THOR IS WITH ME! ODIN IS WITH ME!

Tore a phonebook in half, some light gripperage.

Bench press:

First PR was easy, came off the chest like a rocket, slowed a tad about halfway up, then my triceps got hold of it and it flew to locked out.

Second one was slow all the way up, went down to a crawl as it got about halfway up and almost started coming back down at me, I screamed at it and I think I scared the hell out of it because it started going back up again. A few inches from lockout my triceps took over and it snapped to full extension.

Did some pullups and CHINS!, followed by some external rotation work and some levering.
 
I'm moving house, so this morning I took a whole bunch of stuff to the recycling tip, I was just chucking the plastic bags into the bin when I saw it. It was beautiful, absolutely ideal; it couldn't have been more wonderful. It was a tennis ball. An old, worn, faded, dried-out husk of it's former self.

Now why did Jack go crazy for an old tennis ball you're asking yourselves, well the answer is simple, I'm going to rip it in half.
 
Weak and infirm, the aging tennis ball is culled from the herd. Natural selection in action, ladies & gentlemen.
 
Yesterday's martial arts training

I'm gonna go waxwingslain on this log and give you an account of what my martial arts class was like last night (people keep complaining at me I don't chronicle anything other than lifting in here).

Warmup: Pair off and try to tap your opponent on either shoulder, hip or knee; working on speed reactions and distance.

Double stick work: All drills loop, first 4 start from open position (left stick by left ear, right stick by right ear)

Drill 1: right forehand - left forehand

Drill 2: right forehand - right backhand - left forehand - left backhand

Drills 1 & 2 (so do 1, then 2 then back to 1)

Drill 3: right forehand - low right backhand - high right backhand - same on left

Drills 1, 2 & 3

Drill 4: right forehand - left forehand - right backhand - left backhand (arms cross and uncross)

Drills 1, 2, 3 & 4

Drill 5: from closed position (both sticks on right side) right forehand - left backhand - right backhand hits and bounces back to left side - drill repeats from left side

Single stick work:

12 numbered attacks from doce pares system

Defence against number 1 strike, block, x hit to body and stab to ribs, roll attackers wrist to outside and strip stick out of their hand.

Hoobud using hammer fist strike with back end of stick

Grappling

Ground lock flow starting from scarf hold (can't be bothered to write it out, full version's about 80 odd moves long), couple of times each side

Drilled jailbreak escape from side mount.

Drilled double elevator sweep from guard and scissor sweep.

Did some work on rubber guard with Dave, particularly focusing on omoplata and gogoplata.

Drilled twister roll from side control.

Worked on shoot, getting dave to keep hips low and I was working on using a flare to finish the takedown and get a good side control position.
 
Tore a tennis ball in half, took me about ten minutes to get the damn thing done, camera timed out less thna half way through due to lack of memory so there's no video. It was also much less satisfying as I ripped the outer cover off first then had to work on getting through the rubber inner shell.

Once more I have applied my immense engineering brain to the rpoblem and think I know how to make this doable. Part of my problem was the ball was too old (a likely excuse i know) and was folding in half too easily, I need the resistance to get my fingers through the surface. I also think I started in entirely the wrong place.

I've got some tennis balls I got free with some orange juice and i'll be going at this again in a few weeks, possibly for the graedy tribute video as well as rolling up a frying pan in a more convincing manner.
 
How exactly do you go about tearing a tennisball in half? i would imagine there is alot of form that goes into it, just like a phonebook.
 
For a short while I was confused how orange juice might help you to tear a tennisball in half. Then I got the meaning of the sentence. Man, am I tired.

With difficulty, my finger tips hurt like hell, you've basically got to drive your fingers through the side of the ball. Brookifeld gives an explantaion in Grip master's manual, which you should own a copy of BTW.

Trying to get a large van for the weekend. Comp had died so will text you with outcome, but this is the last weekend right?

I don't get paid till next wednesday and I've already given the gym 200 quid so I'm trying to get chris to realise that although I'll put in 50 quid, I'm not paying for it all out of my pocket

Would prefer it if you can come down this weekend, will be pretty busy next weekend as i'm goping down to measure up the new house, should be back early sunday but would really rather you picked it up before then.

yeah brookfield has it in the manual, he pokes a hole with one of his fingers made of damn iron through the seam than works it and tears open, all in about 10 sec.... and he bent 500 60d nails in a row
 
Bought a couple pony clamps today to work on thumb strength. Christ, I'm weak!

Heavy lifting suspended until further notice due to moving house.

Grip training will continue, particularly with regards to rolling up a frying pan properly and ripping a tennis ball in half before I move. There may also be some BW lifting in the near future.

Depending on outcome of specialist appointment, may join a new gym if I'm staying at the new house for quite a while.

When's the appointment? And what possible outcome should we be hoping doesn't come to pass?

Looks like i'm going for private helathcare as the NHS is going to take months, this way I can probably be in surgery in the next month or so (would be quicker but it'll be after i move).

I bought a frying pan yesterday, video will be forthcoming, also did some gripper work.
