Yesterday's martial arts training
I'm gonna go waxwingslain on this log and give you an account of what my martial arts class was like last night (people keep complaining at me I don't chronicle anything other than lifting in here).
Warmup: Pair off and try to tap your opponent on either shoulder, hip or knee; working on speed reactions and distance.
Double stick work: All drills loop, first 4 start from open position (left stick by left ear, right stick by right ear)
Drill 1: right forehand - left forehand
Drill 2: right forehand - right backhand - left forehand - left backhand
Drills 1 & 2 (so do 1, then 2 then back to 1)
Drill 3: right forehand - low right backhand - high right backhand - same on left
Drills 1, 2 & 3
Drill 4: right forehand - left forehand - right backhand - left backhand (arms cross and uncross)
Drills 1, 2, 3 & 4
Drill 5: from closed position (both sticks on right side) right forehand - left backhand - right backhand hits and bounces back to left side - drill repeats from left side
Single stick work:
12 numbered attacks from doce pares system
Defence against number 1 strike, block, x hit to body and stab to ribs, roll attackers wrist to outside and strip stick out of their hand.
Hoobud using hammer fist strike with back end of stick
Grappling
Ground lock flow starting from scarf hold (can't be bothered to write it out, full version's about 80 odd moves long), couple of times each side
Drilled jailbreak escape from side mount.
Drilled double elevator sweep from guard and scissor sweep.
Did some work on rubber guard with Dave, particularly focusing on omoplata and gogoplata.
Drilled twister roll from side control.
Worked on shoot, getting dave to keep hips low and I was working on using a flare to finish the takedown and get a good side control position.
