- Agree that Eddy's death was pointless. It felt like they wanted to give the character a hero moment, but it wasn't earned and didn't change anything. He and Dustin could have chilled in the trailer and the outcome would have been no different.
- Nancy, Jonathan and Steve. We spend the whole season building up to something. Jonathan feels lost, isn't sure of himself or his relationship, Nancy feels he's distant, Steve is starting to come back onto her. We build up all this tension and then it's literally just "hey we good? yep ok good" and that's the end of it. (I didn't actually want Steve and Nancy together, but if you start a storyline you have to do something with it ffs
- Max and Eleven. I thought Max getting fucked up was a great moment. That had impact for me and felt genuinely important. But then that moment is thrown in the bin so we can show off that Eleven is now powerful enough to bring people back to life. I feel like they wanted that to be a big "omg" moment, but to me it felt cheap and not earned. If they wanted to use it as a moment to character build Eleven, have it so that somehow she's struggling to keep Max alive. Max is fucked up from Vecna, but hasn't died yet, Eleven is trying to hold it together, trying to heal her/keep her going. Maybe she fails, and then Max dies? Then we get to see how Eleven handles grief, guilt and failure. That's a big character moment and something that sets up for the next season. Instead we got ET and now Max (and Lucas and Erika) will be in hospital for 90% of season 5. Should have just let her die.
- The basketball jocks. That was pointlessly anticlimatic. Yeah there was a fight, cool. But it didn't mean anything. The drama across the whole season was about the jocks not believing Lucas, believing he and his friends were evil, and Lucas struggling to keep the two sides together. This should have been setup to include a moment where the jock learns the truth. Maybe he sees Vecna, maybe he gets attacked by evil creatures, maybe Lucas and the team fight to save him and he realises he was wrong and that they had been innocent the whole time. He can still die after that, but have some meaning to it. Instead they just end a storyline with a shit fist fight and a quick "oh yeah he's dead" shot.
- The military. What happened to them? Did they give up because Eleven exploded a helicopter? It was really important for them to catch her. But then they just let her go. How did some stoner kids in a shitbox Kombi outrun the military back to Hawkins? Did Eleven blow up all their Humvees when no one was looking? Did the guy call for another helicopter and they were like "Sorry boss, that's our only helicopter. You guys have to walk to Hawkins" and that's what they're doing?
