That's what I want to know, too. What part of the octagon could possible cause a huge gash like that? Fighters get literally thrown into and onto the octagon, and don't get up with a second (or first) vagina like she got on her knee.

Brutal spot for a deep cut like that. Looks like they tacked it together with single interrupted sutures to remove tension, then skin glued it.

Those are vertical mattress sutures. They're used for high tension wounds.

Damn, you must be working in/around surgeries...I googled to see what that was, and you are spot on - quick 2 min video of procedure. After watching, I compared final frames of video to the stitch job in the original post...spot on!

I'm a dermatology PA. I do a lot of minor derm surgeries, removing small skin cancers and stuff. I do the vertical mattress sutures pretty often. Thanks for the kind words!

The additional skin between the stitches is meant to accommodate her skin while bending her knee as when walking or sitting. If it was stitched taut when her knee is extended she would have to keep her knee straight otherwise the skin flaps will pull apart, which will heal more slowly and risk infection. Superficial stitches can come out in a week, whereas deeper stitches may take much more time.
