You not recognizing the positive things Mark has said about the new SW's is a testament to how far you've let yourself go into the dark side.

But isn't it a lot more noteworthy that a star is talking any shit about the movie as opposed to just doing positive press like usually happens? Especially with an ongoing series and being in the next movie?

How often do you actually hear actors talk shit about the movies they were in? Especially recent movies?

Another gem:

I say to the executives at Disney, “Really? Han Solo five months after our movie? Give it a rest!” They say, well, we have to keep the schedule clear for Mary Poppins.’ He feigns outrage. ‘But I can be mouthy, because you know, what are they gonna do, fire me?

Compilation of Rian Johnson proving he doesn't get SW and didn't care to explore what JJ Abrams set up:

Paraphrased:

"Luke only mourned Obi-Wan for a few seconds in ANH. Then he's all Woohoo! In Star Wars there's no tine for grief, it's just go go go!" - on why he cut the 30 second scene of Luke mourning Han.

"OMG Empire would have gotten ROASTED. If you look at the criticism of TLJ, can you IMAGINE how fans would have reacted to Luke getting his ass handed to him by Vader? Han going down without a fight?" -on how Empire Strikes Back would have been received if social media was around back then

"SW to me has always been about the transition from adolescence to adulthood" - from the TLJ documentary, commenting on Kylo's whiny behavior

"Luke's behavior in TLJ is 100% consistent with his behavior in the OT" - response to criticism on twitter

"I didn't put Lando in the film because I don't think audiences would buy that he could betray Rose and Finn" - basically saying he can't write for shit

"I was writing TLJ before TFA started production, so it's not like I was reading all these theories about Snoke being Darth Plageius and deying that. For me, it's a question I didn't care about..because I didn't think the character of Rey would care who Snoke is. I didn't think it would make sense to take the viewer out of the movie for a long time by having him explain to Rey his entire backstory" - on why there was no explanation about who is Snoke is

Mark Hamill may be Luke, but he is not the beginning and end of Star Wars. He's allowed for his fame to get to his head. Any actor that tried to do what he's doing now got on the Hollywood blacklist for decades. And rightfully so. You don't shit where you eat for a reason.

That's a hell of a production. I'm a fan, but hadn't seen that one. Thanx for sharing. People be rocking the "America's Got Talent" tv show with effects like that now... but MJ waz doing it back in the day!!

As with this VERY UNIQUE FAN BASE... (that's been building for 40 years...) I think we all understand why this is different. Mark has had one roll in 40 years... so he speaks his mind. Also, he's loaded & doesn't need the money nor cares about the hype.

Long story short... He didn't like the direction his character was taken. That doesn't make him the be all end all of the discussion.

I didn't like it at first either... but I got used to it. I've got no daddy issues about my hero being made human. It's all good in my mind... & so it's just a story.

That's easy for me. Took about a week & a second viewing... but if you're the person playing that character & you just spent 30 years of your life suckling on your role in the original SW's instead of getting out there like Han did... then you're oh so much more invested... & if you don't care for how your character is portrayed then you will certainly bitch.

It's strange you don't see how much more biased the actor of a character would be.

Set yourself apart from all that... & set yourself apart from hero worship... & get over your pretense. I get it... you wanted thingz to go down a different way. I'm with you. I would love an alt universe where Luke is a rock star... but that's not what we got.

You can either be a crap fan like you & your posse & give up on star wars all together & sh*t on it over & over for what now 15 months after the last release... or you can let go of your daddy issues & just accept it as a cool story that's set in the SW's universe.

& don't forget that this story is only 2/3rds told. That's the big one. Once the whole story is told you'll sit there stunned in the theater wondering why you didn't see the possibilities that you were just exposed to. This nonsense that they just gave Rian free run of their asset is ridiculous. Even KK said they had a plan from the start FOR THE WHOLE TRILOGY!!!! FFS THAT'S A QUOTE FROM THE HEAD... instead though everyone wants to go by the words of KK's employee Rian who told a half truth about how he was given full run of the thing. What isn't said is that he only mentioned that's THE WAY IT STARTED.

Anywayz.. sorry for the rant... you knew what you were getting into though tagging me in a SW's thread at 3 a.m. EST. :p

Honestly, this was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. I didnt remember who said it but I remembered somebody saying it. Seeing Mark talk about it just had me rubbing my temples. It's just stunning how little reverence Johnson had for the characters.

God bless Mark Hamill. Dude gives zero fucks and is constantly letting out his subtle passive aggressive pot shots at the movie.

He didn't like the direction Rian was taking. He worried fans wouldn't as well...but no one listened to him..

Movie comes out and he sees fans upset for the exact same reasons....confirming to him that RJ should have listened to him.

Sees SW fandom become so divided, more than ever. His disappointment intensifies. His resentment towards Rian Johnson intensifies.

Makes sense.

Also, this article makes me less optimistic about Episode IX.

^^^^^he is spot on. There is no point in having the sequels.

giphy - 2019-03-03T000635.707.gif

I've been saying this since January 2016. Having Ray besmirch Kylo with no training, having never used a Lightsabre before in her life, effectively killed the sequels. In Empire, Luke has been through Jedi Training Camp with Yoda before he faces off against Vader. And he still gets his shit pushed in. This meant that the rematch in Return carried real weight and consequences. We knew the odds were against Luke, and he was going to have raise his game significantly to stand and bang with Darth Daddy. There is no such tension regarding another Kylo vs Rey fight. She kicked his ass the first time she picked up a 'sabre, and she's only grown stronger since then.

The excuse that Kylo only lost because of the Bow Caster injury, or because he was emotionally shattered after killing his own father doesn't hold water either. Vader needs a life-support suit just to get out of bed in the morning. It's cannon that he's in constant agony from his injuries, and he still feels enormous guilt for his actions in Revenge, which is of course what redeems him in the end. He still pimp-slaps a rookie Skywalker all over Cloud City.

Fuck Disney, fuck RJ, and especially fuck Kennedy. That stupid, worthless cunt should spend the rest of her career making sandwiches and fetching coffee at Star Wars conventions.

I remember reading somewhere that the only reason Mark came back was because he didn't wanna disappoint the fans

Funny in hindsight

He says it in the article. He was hesitant to do this because he thought they already had a good beginning, middle, and end. He was sure Harrison wouldn't sign on. But then he did, and at that point he felt like he was, in his words, "drafted"

That guy really nailed it in that video.

There's no coming back from this terrible scene.

Rey should have simply been able to somewhat defend herself, for a short time. That would have been enough to show her awesome potential. What she did wasn't as offensive at the time, because it was still possible she had training, and had her memory wiped. I think That's what everybody figured; that's what I figured. It was actually exciting looking forward to see who had trained her, and why.. Or where she came from.

I won't be seeing it, but if they didn't make it so kylo was lying to her about her past, and give an explanation for her high level jedi ability, then it's just a complete failure. Total, and complete.

What are the big selling points on STAR WARS: EPISODE IX story wise? I can't think of many.

Yep,

There is not point to the rest of the trilogy now; Rey has already beaten Kylo with no training (lightsaber, resisted his mind control, etc).

What is the point of a villain and the hero's character growth if she (in this case) has already beat the crap outta the villain.

They didn't even have a rematch in the second movie where Kylo could've gotten his shine back. He ends up picking a fight with Force Projection Luke who is lightyears away. SMH.

yep,

what's also funny that in a short amount of time Kylo was able to deceive his master and hide his true intention from him but could not do anything to a girl who was maybe "force sensitive" but had no training not that long ago.

People would want to see Kylo get raped again by a bitch with no Jedi training.

Rose Tico and Finn interracial sex.

I bet you liked the following scenes:
- Luke drinking milk from alien tits and then having eye contact with Rey
- you cheered for Rey as he kicked Luke's ass even if she has 0 training
- you laughed when Finn got tased by Rose Tico
- you found it awesome that an x wing was able to take on a dreadnought while the enemies were just watching, then suddenly their bombers were already so close! You also laughed at Poe's jokes at the beginning right? wow so funny jokes hahaha
- you found it logical that the purple haired bitch wasn't telling her plan right? and she expected everyone to be fine with it while they're all being killed?
- you also liked that low speed space ship chase? <45>
- you think it was awesome that Snoke didn't even feel the sword moving next to him right? and that he died just like that?
- you loved hologram Luke which died anyway? <45>
- you fell in love when rose tico saved finn? And made that nonsense comment about saving people while she put everyone in danger? You also like the fact that they were kissing and the enemy pretty much just ignored them.

There's a lot more scenes that i'm sure you loved, like the Canto Bight where they were in trouble because they didn't park properly. Wow so funny am i right?

To see the FINAL installment of the "SKYWALKER SAGA"....by Skywalker we mean unused TFA footage of Leia Organa and the genocidal villain and last heir to the Skywalker family, Kylo Ren.

In Game of Thrones, every time a Targaryen is born, flip a coin.

In SW, every time a Skywalker is born....be afraid. Only 1 hasn't resulted in the deaths of countless people.

Yup. I was really enjoying the TFA, got a bit teary eyed in the audience as the nostalgia floored me, taking me back to my childhood.I knew they were going to play it safe, and I was cool with that, so long as they laid some groundwork. I was very cool with Rey too, as we already had Luke, Anakin, Obi-Wan and Kyle Katarn as Jedi leads. I loved Ahsoka, so I was ready for a female Jedi/movie lead until Rey slowly kept winning because.... vagina? When she bested Kylo I remember thinking
tenor.gif

It deflated Kylo instantly, and took away heavily from Rey's potential arc. I remember posting on Facebook about how I enjoyed the film, but had issues with Rey being so awesome at everything. A buddy of mine chimed in saying she's probably a powerful Jedi as well, maybe Kylo's brother, who had her mind wiped, and I was once again cool with things, but trepidatious.

Then this clown happened

and all our fears about identity politics from this clown were obvious.

Star Wars was just another victim of the culture war and the catalyst behind a new meme

Let's see if JJ can right the ship. Even though I have little faith in him, I'm pulling for him. Who doesn't like an underdog story? How the fuck is anything Star Wars related an underdog story though? What a mad world

He's the main character in the original series that's a pretty big deal. He hasn't allowed fame to get to his head. He is simply not pleased where the story is going and didn't think the fans would like, he's been proven right. Cool any actor who voiced honest and correct opinions would be kicked out what's your point? That actors who are right should just let the movie they are in fail without even attempting to say anything?
