Mark Hamill Shares Some of His Disappointment on the New Star Wars Movies

fjazIjW.jpg

Some decisions still rankle, though. [Mark Hamill] remains shocked by Han Solo’s fate: slain by his own son and Luke’s nephew, the powerful Dark Side warrior Kylo Ren (formerly known as Ben Solo) in the sequel trilogy’s opening installment, The Force Awakens.

"I just thought, Luke’s never going to see his best friend again. You look at it in a self-centred way. I said that it was a big mistake that those three people would never reunite in any way. I guess I was wrong, because nobody seems to care! I have to stipulate that I care, but it didn’t really seem to affect the larger audience. Luke, Han and Leia will never be together again, and I’ll probably never get to work with Harrison again."

"Then the second thing was that they killed me off. I thought: oh, okay, you should push my death off to the last one. That’s what I was hoping when I came back: no cameos and a run-of-the-trilogy contract. Did I get any of those things? Because as far as I’m concerned, the end of VII is really the beginning of VIII. I got one movie! They totally hornswoggled (tricked) me."

He’s made his peace with any unfulfilled expectations. "Listen, I never expected to come back. We had a beginning, a middle, and an end. That’s what I said: why mess with it? It’s not something that worries me, because it’s all about the new generation, as it should be."

Some changes had to be made, however. "They had me walking by 3PO, not even acknowledging him. I said: 'I can’t do that!' He (The Last Jedi’s director, Rian Johnson) said, 'Okay, go over and do whatever.' So I went over, and I did whatever. They say it in the script: 'Forget the past, kill it if you have to”, and they’re doing a pretty good job!'"

I think he meant to say they're subverting expectations and doing a pretty good job.

Did I mention I'm not watching this in the theater?

Likely on a Trans-Atlantic flight....

Skipped Solo in the theater too...though I won't lie, it wasn't a bad film.

Hope that picture is from the first day of shooting and both Rey and Finn are put out of OUR misery in the first five minutes.

And why is Kenny Florian involved?

Fixed that for you. No need to thank me:)

Yeah.. The "kill the past" thing is as fkn stupid as anything I've seen. It's up there with "Why would we need thousands of years of emassed wisdom of great civilizations, because teenage girls with violent attitudes already know everything."

Those are both at the top. Hollywood is so fucked they can't even write common sense wisdom for Yoda.

And now that I hear him say it, Han and Luke should have reunited.

From this article.

Mark Hamill: "I’ll be reading something, and say, “What moron said this?”, and then realize, “Oh, it’s me. They can take selective comments you’ve made out of context and use it to support their argument

My post from a year ago...

There was some good stuff like winking to C3PO. Pretty sure Mark Hamill defied the director to actually throw in a decent character moment.

If he just walked past 3PO, that would be some bullshit. That annoying motherfucker has been part of the Skywalker story long before Luke ever was.

He's so overcast that he's rarely not miscast.
I kind of dread seeing him in a movie.
Did you see that movie with him and Olivia Wilde? It was only good when he wasn't in it.

He’s great in a most violent year, ex machina, inside Llewyn Davis

I don’t know how he’s miscast

Disney dropped The ball with these heartfelt moments. They really blew it

I dunno. I found it pretty heartwarming when Rose kissed Finn, when they released those space horses in the casino land, when Maz Kanata took time out of her busy say to Skype with Poe, when Leia and Holdo had the lezzbe friends farewell. Who needs a bunch of Luke and Han bullshit.

Three incredibly overrated movies. He was perfectly cast in ILD.

Star Wars, Apocalypse, Operation Finale, thats 4 movies he's been miscast in.
Some of his other movies like LIfe Itself and the Promise he was pretty lame in (lots of credit goes to the writing). He brings no edge.
But he's move overcast than miscast.

Oscar Isaac was a decent character in that graduation movie with Chris Pratt.
