Nope, it wasn't interesting and from my observation anyone who was disappointed by those red herrings had probably wasted the better part of the last two years invested in batshit crazy fan theories. "Is Snoke actually an evil Mace Windu or Darth Plagueis?", "Is Rey Luke's daughter or Obi Wan's bastard?" You know, the guys who turn a 1 minute long teaser trailer into a 20 minute analysis. No wonder people were disappointed, they wasted so much time hoping that they were right instead just waiting for and watching the movie when it came out.

I issue just as much blame to JJ Abrams for setting up such stupid questions to be needlessly obsessed over.
The difference between Palpatine and Snoke is there wasn't an established universe before the OT. Since there are 6 previous films, people want to know how they tie in together, and exposition is a part of that. It's basic storytelling.

You knew TLJ was going to be a mess when they emasculated The First Order in the opening scene. That scene was so out of place. Compare it to Thor Ragnorak. That film opens with a similar scene with Thor emasculating Surtur. Now, imagine if Surtur was actually one of the main antagonists. Could you take him seriously? Now imagine if Thor Ragnorak wasn't a comedy. The tone would be totally off. Well, that's what we got with TLJ, a mess of a movie lacking any consistent tone.

That’s why marvel is kicking sw ass now, the continuity between movies and they tie shit together.

They really fucked up

I think that's what makes the faults of TLJ more annoying, TFA was just such a mediocre film all around that there wasn't really much to pick out as obviously worse, TLJ did have some good ideas in the Kylo story but surrounded them with so much crap before dumping the whole thing anyway and just turning him into a straight badguy.

Imagine TLJ ending with Rey either joining Kylo or perhaps being undesided with the two of them being separated by wider events, doesn't that make the last film about 100 times more interesting?

Luke rejects Vader at the end of ESB of course but that's not the same at all, the "I am your father" reveal and indeed losing to him aren't really geared mostly towards Luke joining him, there geared to destroying Luke's more simplistic heroic fantasy and that damage holds over into ROTJ.

Again I suspect Disney might well be behind that, too concerned with Rey being an "equality princess" rather than actually being an interesting character telling Johnson he couldn't take her in that direction.
I thought for sure Rey and Kylo were going to switch roles, with Kylo teaming up with Luke to stop Snoke and try and save Rey from the darkside in the final film. Snoke could have overwhelmed Kylo and Luke, with Rey finding her good side again after Fin dies in the crossfire. Heaven forbid they write a complicated female arc.

Why is it such a tragedy to predict a sensible, simple plot to tell a story about light sabers and starfighter battles? A few surprises are a delight but what's wonderful is seeing imaginative material come to life. Predicting it just means you love it and you're a fan. Being completely wrong just for the sake of turning left instead of right, that's some purposeful shit and it's not for story telling.

Keep It Simple, Stupid.

The secound one I posted looks more official. But it was being sold as a leaked trailer for the first one first time I saw it so it made more sense it didn’t have the rating stuff and Lucas films logo like the secound one does.

Honestly, I’m surprised anyone could look at either of those and think they were legit. I could see the first one being more likely to trick people, if they had no idea about Last Days in the Desert and didn’t concern themselves with the details, but the second one with the significantly lower quality visuals on the fan made Maul parts is a dead giveaway. On top of that all the reused footage from previous films should be a big clue.

I Saw on the inter webz someone wrote that “people are so stupid they don’t understand What Johnson wrote was a love letter to Luke Skywalker”

Do people really believe that silliness.

What's hard to buy about it?

Don't get me wrong. I know that a lot of people keep saying it's disrespectful to the character, franchise, their childhoods, this morning the mayor and the prince of darkness from on high, et al.; and I get why they say that even though I don't agree. I get that people think there's an SJW agenda and that Rian Johnson is a pompous arrogant enfant terrible. I get that Luke doesn't really pick up a lightsabre and when he does it's a stupid joke. I get that the casino scene makes no sense for some people and that Rose Tico is ugly. I get that the Snoke should have had more backstory and Rey some lineal connection. I get that people don't like purple hair. I get that this is silly:

I get that.

You don't get the other side? MR. STARS WARS BIGGEST FAN?

I noticed the crappier stuff in the secound one but it had the ratings thing and Lucas films logo thought with that if it wasn’t somehow legit it would get pulled instantly guess not

Theatrically yes the first one looks more legit, epsicially having no idea about the desert movie. So it looks as though ewen went out and shot those scenes for Obi Wan

Basically it was exactly what a lot of the criticism made it at the time, Abrams falling back onto cheap mystery's he didn't have any answer to in order to cover a lack of depth in his film.

Part of the problem was I think way too many people were invested in loving TFA well before release and in praising Abrams as the payoff to over a decade of takedowns of the prequels.

I mean politically I'm very much a liberal myself but to me the STarwars sequels are actually perfect examples of ideology being used in a highly cynical fashion, Rey's character in both films and the whole Poe mutiny plot in TLJ are just poor writing for me hiding behind nods to equality.

True equally is writing a female character just as interesting as Luke was in the originals and ironically I think we did see Lucasfilm come up with a good effort inbetween in Jyn, a far more flawed character of limited abilities yet also far more interesting(and indeed somewhat unique in having a heroic female lead die, Alien 3 is the only other one that comes to mind in a big film). I suspect the issue might well have been Disney were more directly involved in the sequels and left the anthology stuff more in Lucasfilms and indeed the director/writters hands aiming at a hardcore audience.

guaranteed ill skip it. 8 sucked so bad i refuse to go to the theaters to see 9. I really dont give a shit about the characters they have left

My brother is gonna stream it, supporting the streams.

Bah, hard to do that with a sci fi movie.

I don't know why I keep wishing they'd just dismiss this movie and do a do over. I'd be incredibly impressed with them.

Mark Hamill Disappointed Rian Johnson Cut Luke's Reaction to Han Solo's Death

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits Blu-ray and DVD today and features 14 deleted scenes, two of which turned out to be important moments for Luke Skywalker. During a sit-down interview in Ireland last week, I asked actor Mark Hamill what he thought about these particular sequences getting cut from the theatrical version of The Last Jedi. Watch the full interview with Hamill in the video above.

While Hamill was understanding about scenes needing to get cut, he was nevertheless disappointed by director Rian Johnson's decision to do so as these moments would have shown audiences another side of Luke the film otherwise didn't depict.

The deleted scene titled "Luke Has a Moment" takes place on Ahch-To after Luke has learned the answer to his question “Where’s Han?” Luke enters his hut, where some of his belongings are laid out on a table, and allows himself a quiet but emotional moment. Given that Luke just learned of Han’s death moments before, this moment serves as a chance to show Luke grieving the loss of his brother-in-law and friend. (It’s also noteworthy that this deleted scene ends by cutting from Luke to Leia deep in thought, implying that she too is mourning Han. In the theatrical version, however, the cut to Leia suggests she’s fretting about the Resistance and the immediate peril they’re in.)

Do You Regret That Luke Skywalker's Reaction to Han Solo's Death Was Cut?

"Yes, of course because it shows Luke was putting on a facade in front of Rey and even Chewie, that he was embittered and sort of a broken man," Hamill said. "And I think the fact that he could let his emotions out when he was by himself would have made an impact on the audience because it allowed them to grieve the loss of Han Solo just the way Luke felt it.

"But that always happens in films. You say, 'Oh, what about this scene where this happens or that happens?" because you want to give the fullest experience that you can. And like you say, it was brief enough that I was -- [chuckles] They had time for me to milk that big alien but to show any human emotion? Nah, we don't have time for that. But again it's not my call."

Hamill did say it was "great" that the Blu-ray/DVD release not only offers fans 14 deleted scenes but that some are "not just snippets but full scenes."

I loved this movie - but I will say this: the people who hate it, hate it way more than I like it.
