To be fair, the competition aint all that great

I think he would be a great character even if the competition was higher. He's a compelling figure. You almost feel bad for him because he's more pathetic that anything else.

He's literally being ripped apart by the force. I'd like to see more of these movies dedicated to his story.

What's the distinction between Sith and let's say, Dark Side of the Force users.

Neither Snoke nor Ren is Sith but both seem to be doing some next level shit that I didn't see other Sith lords like Mau and Dooku doing. I mean when Ren was stopping laser blasts in mid air and using the force to drag someone across the room into his grip and wresting thoughts from people's minds, it was pretty clear he was really high level.

Snoke, meanwhile, absolutely toyed with Rey who is the prodigy.
Sith have a specific set of codes and philosophies. Like the rule of two.

Random dark side users don't follow such beliefs.

Snoke and Kylo still pale in comparison to Sidious or Vader.

Kylo actually feels like a character. everyone else just feel like moving objects.

Vader was seduced by the dark side of the force...

With that one sentence weve learned more about vader than weve learned about ren in two fucking movies.

My problem with ren is his motivations are about as clear as mud

Is this going to be a trilogy?

The end to TLJ just felt like the start of a new era, they can stretch the rebuild of the resistance for some films, it just doesnt feel right for the first order to be defeated in the next film with how this movie ended, even if the FO is being lead by incompetent leaders taken from 80s cartoons like Cobra Commander, Skeletor and Starscream..

We also know Disney is succesful in exploiting franchises so I dont see them stopping at 3 like George Lucas did and we will have these characthers star in a bunch of films.

I think that's the obvious reason and why he's torn as a character. Because he's unclear as well.

Like I said I would love more back story since I think he's a great character.

Just got back from seeing it for the first time, and I had low expectations but they were shattered by exactly how terrible it was.

I was only interested in the movie when Rey, Kylo, Luke, or Leia were on screen. Otherwise, I was completely bored. Even then it wasn't all good, mostly bad, but at least it kept my attention.

It occured to me that what Disney has been doing to Pirates of the Caribbean, they're now doing with Star Wars. Huge CGI setpieces, but there's no tension because we all know all of the main characters we all know and love aren't going to be killed off. Jack Sparrow isn't going to die, no matter what odds he up against, and neither is Rey or whoever else we're supposed to care about.

Don't get me started on Luke's death. I'd sure others have explained their displeasure with it in the hundreds of posts within the last week. Whatever they say about it being pathetic, I agree.

2/10

So this is my last Star Wars movie for a very long time to come, unless they announce a Darth Vader movie, or announce Hayden Christiansen is coming back as an Anakin Skywalker clone for Episode 9. But even then, my interest in that was based upon the Old Luke / Young Anakin lightsaber match that would have been awesome.

So, my interest in Disney's Star Wars is dead. I may have to go back and read a few dozen old extended universe books.

Fuck... man... so dissapointing.

I rate it a 5.5/10.

Liked the Rey and Kylo stuff, but the rest bored me, the FO being lead by 80s cartoon villains just made me lose anyinterest in them.

Disliked the comedy, cutesy characthers, FO being lead by 80s cartoon villains.

I understand why they unmasked Kylo for this one but the guy just looks dumb and ugly , the mask and voice was one of the cool things form the first one.

That's a poor strawman argument, @D3THRONED! LOL.

Fnarr fnarr.

I didn't know he left that map, but it's not within reason that he might have changed his mind along the way.

That's another thing that bothers me with even Hamill's preference that a Jedi would never give up. Luke doesn't give up. His self-exile to Acht-To is merely a self-imposed obstacle on his way to fulfilling his destiny. If what Hamill is saying is that he would have preferred a plot structure where Luke overcame non-internal obstacles -- I don't think that would be nearly as satisfying. Eye candy, maybe -- but there was eye candy here too. The thing about Luke is that he's always in the middle of shit. Dark and Light. Jedi and Sith. Discipline and Temptation.

This is just an absurd defense to BAD WRITING.
"Maybe he just changed his mind!?" Really? That would be an acceptable explanation ?
It is very clear that Abrams and Johnson had entirely different visions on what to do with Luke. Love or hate whichever version you want, but there is just no defending how they made the transition. This was supposed to be a sequel, and TLJ spent a bunch of time just undoing shit from the first film.

Lol i mean, TFA ends in this kind of iconic moment where Rey and Luke are looking at each other, it's raining, and she's presenting his light saber to him...like.. "teach me, dad"...
And then if you were to cut directly to Johnsons movie, Luke takes the saber and then just throws it away. Lol wut? Absolutely awful.

And Luke DID give up.
He knows how powerful Ren is. He knows there is no one out there but him who could stop him. He knows this is his nephew. And this nephew is now going to war to kill his own parents, which are Luke's sister and best friend. ..along with the rest of the galaxy...anddd he is just going to stay home? He tapped

The guy that turned darth fucking Vader back to the light is gonna just give up and go slice his nephew up for having dark side feelings?

Don’t fucking think so Johnson.

And Kylo has light side still clearly visible in him. Torn by killing his father, not killing his mother. Saving Rey from snoke.

Vader sliced up younglings without flinching.

Yeah, and in subsequent posts after further reflection I asked Dragon to change my vote in the poll to a 4.

Then you are a fool.

You allowed the evil ones to corrupt you. Went the wrong way, homie.

I have to assume it will still be connected in some way, just as these films are connected to everything that has come before it. Or are they just going to tell some totally different shit from another part of the galaxy or another time?

Expectations are high for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and it appears Disney and Lucasfilm are happy with the way the film turned out: today, Disney announced that its director, Rian Johnson, will be launching an entirely new trilogy in the Star Wars franchise.

Johnson will write and direct the first installment in the new trilogy, with his longtime producer Ram Bergman set to produce the films. While details are scarce, the new trilogy will be separate from the classic Skywalker saga, and instead will focus on “new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.”

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

I've heard about this, but my understanding is that it's supposed to be a spin-off trilogy, not part of the main storyline.

The Poe plotting was so god damn awful. Kathleen Kennedy must have a brain tumor to trust him with any type of future movie let alone three. Unless of course this trilogy is called Star Wars: Dumb Assholes and all the characters are just dumb assholes.

Jesus, I mean if that's how you feel about The Last Jedi, you must REALLY hate the original trilogy. . .
