It is cool that Luke is being kept from us. Mark Hamill must feel like the biggest movie star again with his character and performance being so protected.

It really doesn't give anything away. Still kind of ambiguous.

I like how they marketed this movie. Lots of mystique they're giving it.

thx.

It figures. They have to entice the people with new stories and new characters, while teasing inclusion of well known and beloved characters and at the same time making it abundantly clear it's not going to be Ep I-III all over again.

I dislike how fake the CGI looks.

I miss the old days when the Falcon moving through space didn't look like a cartoon.

Rest of it looked good though.

have to admit, the teaser got me pumped a bit more.

The CGI is always made/polished throughout the entire post production phase. That said, CGI is slowly making more and more movies unbearable to watch. I've watched a youtube video explaining why that is (basically your mind sees that the entire scene is CGI and you don't get the immersion into the movie as oppose to when only part of the scenes were CGIed). Recent example is the Batman vs Superman trailer. Superman lifting that thing, with Bay-esque explosion behind him seems just too plasticy (not sure if word).

I've hoped that would not be the case with SW, as Lucas (his team) made great practical effects in the old days. Blame Disney, i guess.

I presume that's why the Fury Road was such a hit, people are just not that used (anymore) to seeing practical effects in a blockbuster movies.

This new trailer was pretty good. Nothing that I'm absolutely dying over, but it's ok. I'm really hoping it's just because they're keeping all the good stuff out of the trailer. (I loath when those idiotic fucks put the whole movie in the trailer)

my bet is that the girl and kylo are family, and are either han's kid or lukes

all this talk about no luke...what about supreme leader snoke! we still know nothing!

Hes gonna be the real big reveal, not Luke

Haven't heard about this character yet. Is that possibly Andy Serkis' role?

I don't know why but I'm thinking the lack of Luke and the fact it's a trilogy maybe he doesn't appear till late in the movie. Possibly the story builds towards where the new characters meet up with him.

Got tickets for the 10 PM showing btw. Right before the shit crashed.

December can't come soon enough.

Got mine in IMAX for that 1st Saturday. Going to see Muse at the Staples Center after. Gonna be an epic day.

Agreed on Fury Road, and that makes sense re: why people dislike the CGI.

I will give JJ credit that at least he seems to have built legit sets with demolished TIE fighters and stuff like that. The prequels had none of that. Nobody climbing up a ladder into an actual fighter that was built, nothing.

Some effort is there this time at least.

ah, didn't see the NA only.

well considering Hobbit and Harry Potter got around $350 mil or so, I imagine Star Wars would really be about $400 mil and get a billion worldwide.

I will never, for the life of me, understand why the general moviegoing public should give a flying fuck about box office.

My only problem with the black dude is that it feels like they made the main protagonist black just to be politicly correct.

I mean it's established the storm stroopers are all clones, and we have seen what the guy they cloned from looks like. Also now there is a theory he is related to Han

Yet he looks like a straight up black dude. I mean so far, if those theories I said are right, then they are going to have to do allot of unnecessary explaining as to why they got a black storm trooper related to a white Han Solo.

Also it doesn't help that in every single trailer/teaser they have him making that stupid ass FAUX face. I mean that's the Jedi I am suppose to be rooting for in this movie?!

But fuck it, I'm fucking pumped and I can't fucking wait. I will venture into the movie with an open heart.....can't fucking wait.
unless he was just dressed up as a storm trooper to blend in, or that they stopped cloning after the first trilogy.

The cgi looks very crisp and clean in this.

I don't see the problem at all...

And some cgi is going to be expected. But they did a good job of building sets and props and life sized things for this film

Both of these seem weird to me. It's established that the original Clone Troopers of the Republic was clones, but not to what degree the Stormtroopers of the Empire 30 years after used them. And that in turn certainly doesn't mean a new Empire-wannabe order 30 years after that again has the same resources or does it in the same way.

From a film perspective, unless they wanted Morrison to play a new clone, it would have to be a new individual no matter what. A white guy would be just as wrong as a black or asian, and even a maori who wasn't Morrison would still be a little disconnect. Obviously, they are no longer clones, or clones using different templates.

As for the second point, speculating on that based on fan theories seems premature.

The Clone Trooper stuff was absolute shit and was ruinously stupid for the entire series.

However

Here you go. This is canon.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Stormtrooper

By the time the Galactic Civil War began in earnest, Jango Fett's clones were heavily supplanted by clones based on a variety of templates around 9 BBY,[13] followed shortly after by enlisted Humans.[19] Thus, the Fett clones were ironically reduced to a minority status after years of virtually filling the stormtrooper ranks in its entirety. According to a stormtrooper's entry log in the 501st Journal, none of the Fett clones were ever truly able to come to terms with serving alongside recruits and different clones, all of whom were disdainfully dubbed as the "new guys."[13] Commander Cody, a first generation clone of Jango Fett and a veteran of the Clone Wars, found stormtrooper recruits to be absolutely intolerable. Due to the significant decrease in the Imperial Military's operational effectiveness and his own feelings of nostalgia over the Republic's "army of one man," Cody viewed enlisted troopers as incompetent idiots, all of whom he would have gladly sacrificed for just one real clone trooper

the trailer convinced me that so much is going to be recycled from a new hope

and i wont even be mad because it looks soooo freaking good

I agree completely.

anyone get tickets in Toronto? They don't seem to be available.

Stormtroopers aren't clones. Up your nerd game bro

My hope for this film is that it's good enough to get by until a better director comes on, it will be ok just based on all the nostalgia being played up, which Lucas actually purposely ignored for the prequels.

Pretty much. JJ already came out and said something to the effect of "We didn't write his character with a specific race in mind, but when (black guy who got the role) came in, we thought 'we have an interesting opportunity here' and so we went with it."

So basically him being black provided them with "an interesting opportunity" whereas all the white guys who auditioned didn't.
