How many episodes is the first season?

EDIT: just looked it up. 13. Could be good news or bad. I think most people can agree that no matter how much you like the Star Trek series, they have a LOT of bad episodes. It's worth it for the winners, but it's not like they have a super batting average. So the low episode season could mean higher quality overall, or make the misfires that much more apparent.

Considering they will have a single story arc, it is likely gonna be hit or miss.

Honestly, that does't persuade me one way or the other. Could be awesome. For me some of the best Star Trek of all time is the war with The Dominion in the later seasons of DS9, which are essentially one story arc.

I'd skip all wesley episodes and all Lwaxana Troi episodes

The only 2 "Wesley episodes" I remember were both good:

When everyone is getting hooked on the "Google glass" game
When he's part of the stunt team that has a member crash

When everyone is getting hooked on the "Google glass" game

That actually was one of the few big wtf episodes for me. Not on the level of Paris and Janeway mating as giant slugs on Voyager, but still.

I liked his last one before he left to Starfeleet Academy as well. With him, an injured Picard dying of thirst and a well that was protected by the alien entity.

I hope it will be good. I still like TOS the best, despite the cheesy effects. I like Shatner and Nimoy. The plots and storylines were better, in my opinion, in TOS.

This one is pretty bad too

Andorians. ..?

I would say there is a good chance we will have our first Andorian bridge officer.

I rewatching ENT and in season 4 and there is so many great Andorian episodes. With DSC they keep stating they want to explore LGBT and of diversity issues, how about having multiple Andorians on board. Andorians have 4 sexes. 2 male, 2 female. All four are needed for reproduction, but the 4 don't necessarily stay together or even get along. That may even be too complicated for trek though. In the book universe, the Andorians have had a crisis due to fertility and populations issues.

According to International Netflix new series mission statement : Explore new worlds, bring hope to a new generation

Is that so? I think they have 4 people in a marriage, but I do not the 4 sexes thing.
The Andorian species was unique in that it was composed of four sexes, known in Andorii, the primary Andorian language, as chans, thaans, zhens, and shens. Chans and thaans were roughly comparable in reproductive function and appearance to the male sex, while the latter two were roughly comparable to the female sex.

They usually group off and form pairs, like most species, but do need all 4 sexes for reproduction, and will sometimes form married foursomes, or live together as extended family and be "married" to each other. But usually one male one female are bonded or married, and close than other 2 in the group of 4.

http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Andorian_genders

The Andorian and Aenar species are unusual in that there are four distinct Andorian and Aenar sexes, and a union between all four sexes, an act known as the shelthreth, is required for procreation.

Two of the sexes, thaan and chan, are approximately masculine, and the other two genders, zhen and shen, are approximately feminine. Andorians and Aenar accept the terms "male" and "female", and the pronouns "she/her" and "he/him", while dealing with binary-gendered species

  • Zhen - This sex roughly corresponds to female, and is the sex of the Andorian who will carry the zygote to term.
  • shen - This sex also roughly corresponds to female and is where all Andorian life originates. Although thezhen carries the infant, the child begins as gametes from the shen.
  • chan - This sex roughly corresponds to male.
  • thaan - This sex also roughly corresponds to male.

More rumors tend to point to Discovery taking place between ENT and TOS, which is unfortunate.

"New" worlds, aliens, etc. just doesn't seem to fit when it's somewhat a retcon.

About 30 minutes until Star Trek panel at #TCA16

*New series will feature a female lead, and diverse cast.

*First season explores a event very important to federation history and lore, but has not been widely explored
