SS vs DDP 1: Sean won (very) clearly

Not biased take. I love both, lean towards DDP personally.

1st was clearly for Strickland. By jabs & teeps, but cristal clear.
In the 4th, Sean landed A LOT of flush right hands. DDP control time on the ground did zero damage and no submission attempts.
Besides, he didn't hold Sean for long.
In the 5th, Sean landed some big right hands -and a knee- aswell.

The commentators were cheering lots of DDP punches during his blitzes that actually didn't connect.

Even in the 2nd and 3rd, DDP was marching forward and keeping Sean on his back foot. Close rounds, but I even think Strickland outlanded Dricus in both.
I think Sean wins more clearly this time. People forget the headbutt that caused the cut to Sean which impaired his vision imo.

I think a lot of people miss what Sean is doing because he uses tight small movements (jabs, teeps, short straight rights) even his defence is economicall and rolls with punchs at the end of there momentum or catches them on the arms but sometimes they look as if there landing.

Dricus on the other hand use these big explosive, reaching movements that look like there landing and force you backwards. He caught Sean at the end of alot of combinations with glancing blows that look good and from a distance and causr cuts. I think this is what led to him getting the win.

I had Sean winning buy have no problem with it being scored in Dricus'$ favour. It all comes down to your perception and what you favour scoring wise. 1 thing is I will say is Sean needs to stop Dricuss forward pressure if he wants to win the rematch.

Fighting someone like Dricus you always run the risk of being headbutted. The way he explodes into range and coupled with Sean up right stance I won't be surprised if it happens again.

The MMA decisions round-by-round scores have it right. Dricus 3-4-5

Strickland would've won if the fight were scored as a whole

Yeah, I really wanted DDP to win but did not like the judges decision.

Watch round two in slow motion and you will realize not only did Sean clearly win that round but also most of DDP's strikes were hitting air or blocked throughout the whole fight. If you think that is bullshit, look at DDP's eye after round two and look at his face after round 5. Also DDP had to be helped out of the ring because of all the checked kicks which I found out from someone here that checked kicks only deter the person from kicking and not scored for the person checking. Keep in mind I could care less about fighter personalities AND think DDP will win the rematch so don't come at me like a fucking maniac. To be fair to the judges, they don't get to watch replay and Sean makes people miss by millimeters which for some reason I think is interesting to watch.

It was pretty clear to me and everyone watching that Sean won the fight, especially when you look at how each guy looked at the end. The headbutt that cut Strickland likely cost him the fight. Strickland was landing everything clean, while DDP was just charging forward throwing big winging shots that were either missing completely or hitting arms/shoulders.

Was a bad decision, but hopefully the result is the right one this time around.

Ah yeah, I forgot DDP was fighting in his "hometown" of Canada

He might not know this but Canada does use different rules. Takedowns are weighted more. It's the old rules so some of those rounds where DDP got takedowns even if they didn't do much they still count.

sean easily won 3 rounds if not 4… those judges didn’t like Sean or his opinions.

1,2,5 and i think 4 he could have got that one too. DDP fights like benson henderson lol at whoever said “optics” ha

I wouldn't say 'very clearly' maybe I need to re-watch, but I definitely think Strickland won, and will win this time - maybe with a finish.

There are nights where the judge's are just so hopelessly stupid that they count checked kicks and blocked punches as landed strikes. Their first fight was one of those nights, DDP literally had all of his shots blocked and checked in round 2 until he landed like 2 or 3 hands that apparently swindled people into thinking he was landing them all round long.

Emmett-Kattar was another one of these fights, Emmett somehow won a decision punching Kattar's arms for 5 rounds.

That kind of performance as the challenger pretty well never wins you a title, Dricus just happened to have the stars align for him.

The rematch is in 3 days, so there will be a definitive end to this debate. And if Sean really has a staph infection, it might end badly for him.

I thought Sean squeaked by. I wouldn’t call it a robbery or clear win because it was a very close fight but everyone I watched it with thought Sean won too.
