squats - bench press - deadlift weight ratio

Deadlift should be higher than squat. My deadlift is higher than my squat. But both of mine arent that much better than my bench which is sad :(. But the situation is improving

By all definitions, I'm a pussy. My dead lift is absolutely terrible. The summer squat competition helped me get my squat to a not-quite-as-terrible place. I was doing Strongflits, which had me squatting 3X per week. Does anyone here DL that often? DL will be the next thing I address, but I'm not sure how to go about it.

Well, that and making my guns pop. BANG! BANG!

Deadlifting is a lot more taxing than squating. More than once a week is overkill unless you are a complete noob or using light weights.

That's kind of what I thought, but I wasn't sure. My current program has just a 1X5 every other workout due to all the squatting. My next will probably have a 5X5, or a 3X5. Not sure yet.

I dont get why a lot of you are saying a deadlift should be so-and-so compared to a squat.

Yes, I would agree on average that it appears dead tends to be a stronger lift for more people, but saying one should be higher than the other is making a really big claim.

Its not really. Its pretty logical that almost everyone should be able to deadlift more than they squat unless we're talking about very high level powerlifters who are using suits and squatting to 'parallel'.

I think it has more to do body mechanics and leverage for your average person. I think I'm the only one on this board who squats more than they pull (Lusst - non-sumo may also be one). I'm not a SHW either; I weighted in a 213 yesterday (yes - I've lost weight fuckers).

Assuming that there is no equipment involved and that the person is squatting to proper depth, the most common reasons for somebody squatting more than they can deadlift is that they have really shitty deadlift leverages or have a huge belly that helps them rebound out of the bottom of a squat (e.g. enright).

I have both.

Sherpa what the fuck did you smoke?

Most natural lifters have a deadlift that's considerably higher than their squat.

Reason why SHWs can squat more than they deadlift is because a deadlift suit can maybe add 50lb...where's a squat suit...adds 300+...

also knee wraps add virtually nothing to a deadlift yet adds upwards of a 100 lb to a squat...so that's upwards of 400+ lb from knee wraps and squat suit+briefs

Only people I have known that had squat>deadlift were short with even shorter arms.....

The belt is the same way for squat vs deadlift...a lot of help on squats and only negligible gains on the deadlift..

imo deadlift is a lot more of a pure lift...not a lot of ways to artificially increase it...as you can with squat and bench...

anyways....

belt has same effect as well...little carryover on deadlift yet a sizeable benefit to squats...

without extreme leverage situation...completely raw squat vs deadlift would have a lot more people deadlifting more than they squat...and often by a very sizeable amount...

You're just saying that because you have pulled 700 pounds :)

I bet this guy would have a good squat. We might be related.

I was going to say something, but that Sherpa fucker has already been throughly owned.

my squat is catching up tho...I am getting very close to 500...sadly my bench and deadlift took a huge dive...lol...ah well...

Here are my lifts X my body weight:

Bench Press - 1.57x
Squat - 2.06x
Deadlift - 2.93x

I'd like to get my squat closer to my deadlift, but its tough. The more I squat, the more my deadlift goes up. I should be around 1.8x bench, 2.6x squat, and 3.1x deadlift by the end of the year.. hopefully.

At least my bench isn't higher than my squat, which it was this time last year.
