I believe the decision to split the second movie into two parts only delayed Across the Spider-Verse for 8 months. It was set to open on October 2022 and then moved to June 2023.

I think the real reason for the long delay for the sequel is simple - they just started production late. They were still working on the script on February 2021 and they finalized the directors on April 2021.

Also, No Way Home was released a year and a half ago.

Sony / Marvel doesn't want their movies releases to overlap within certain windows.

Saw it with the wife and kids tonight, absolutely fantastic. Originally set out to watch Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but wife was having a rough week and said she couldn't deal with GG3 knowing characters were probably going to die. So glad we switched, this movie was great.

The building collapse/rescue scene in India was incredible. I just don't understand how good the Spiderverse movies are and how shitty the Venom and Morphius movies are.

SPIDER-MAN: ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE Swings to Huge $120.5 Million Opening Weekend in U.S. Debut

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is spinning a powerful web at the box office. The sequel opened to $120.5 million, well ahead of expectations and the third-biggest opening ever for an animated film, as well as a best-ever for Sony Animation, not adjusted for inflation. It’s also the second-biggest opening of 2023 to date. The movie, which easily come in at No. 1, boasts both stellar reviews and audience scores.

Across the Spider-Verse played older than a traditional kid’s animated movie, with 67 percent of ticket buyers between the ages of 18 and 34. And, like almost all superhero films, the pic skewed male (62 percent), according to PostTrak. EntTelligence reports that the film enjoyed the most foot traffic of any 2023 release behind Universal’s The Super Movie Bros. Movie. The film earned an A CinemaScore.

The accolades don’t stop there. Across the Spider-Verse‘s opening was three times as big as the Phil Lord and Christopher Miller-produced Into the Spider-Verse, which opened to $35.6 million domestically in 2018 on its way to becoming a box office sensation and topping out at $384.2 million worldwide.

Across the Spider-Verse again follows Marvel’s Miles Morales/Spider-Man, voiced by Shameik Moore, and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, set across the multiverse of Spider-People. New voice castmembers include Issa Rae (Jessica Drew). The pic played to an ethnically diverse audience, according to exit-poll service PostTrak.

Lord and Miller returned as producers and writers, with David Callaham also writing the screenplay.

The movie will be followed by another sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, in 2024.

Just got back from watching it, and it was awesome! I loved the first one, and this one didn't disappoint. So many scenes were artistically wonderful/interesting to look at, they didn't overly force comedy, and I enjoyed the story.

Edit: 6 hours later, and I can't stop thinking about how much I enjoyed this movie. Outside of The Batman I haven't seen a comic movie since Endgame, and still have zero interest in dipping back into the live action MCU. However, this movie is a homerun, and I'll be seeing it again next weekend.

Also, those black/purple "Prowler" Jordan's...they have to release them!

And to think people wanted Spider-Man back with Disney. Sony is doing an incredible job with the character between these animated films and their PlayStation titles.

i’m legit thinking about using some PTO to leave work early & catch a Monday matinee screening w/ a (hopefully) smaller crowd in attendance

I have almost zero complaints about the movie

I thought the beginning scene and the 3rd act were 10/10 stuff

my only minor complaint is the second act ish is a huge exposition dump, which makes total sense and was handled as well as it could have been but felt like it dragged a little
and the reveal about the universe where his spider came from was good but ]it dragged a tiny bit, it became clear what the reveal was going to be before it actually got revealed so it didn’t feel as heavy

Saw it IMAX Saturday and was completely enamored throughout. Gwen’s story at the beginning was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen on a screen.

Don’t get the complaints about the pacing or the ending (though it did sneak up on me) and I just left wanting more and more of this incredible artistic accomplishment.

Going to watch this again this week. I think we are going to sit a bit further back from the screen this time around so I can appreciate the action and the visuals more.

Easter Egg watching 2md time around

Taking the nephew/nieces to see it today. I rather not go but they want me to take them; they rather me take them than their parents.

The music and Gwen smacking those drums was so dope

One of the best movie intros I’ve seen in years
