Reason why many elders liked it was for the nostalgia factor. As it wore on, it started to get a bit lame and predictable imo.

I don't agree that it was pure nostalgia factor early on. The first season in particular had strong writing, was thought provoking, ect. The problem is the creators went from "we need to make a good show" to "we're having fun making this show" and it bled into the on screen product. They needed someone to keep them in check the last couple of seasons.Reason why many elders liked it was for the nostalgia factor. As it wore on, it started to get a bit lame and predictable imo.
Lol agree Silver trying to kidnap Carmen and the baby was out there and WTF. I assume Silver was doing coke again and possibly other shit + the prescription drugs he was taking and that turned him manic again like in KK3.
But in the interest of wrapping up everyone's story arc, they needed to make the existing villains irredeemable so they could be written out organically. This show was about the old generation handing over the reins to the next. Miyagi already bit the dust so Kreese, Silver and KSY also had to go. If he survived and was redeemed, KSY would have stolen Johnny and Da Eun's thunder. We knew Da Eun wasn't going to ride side car forever and it was also obvious she and Chozen were going to be a thing. You can't just have KSY standing over them demanding that Chozen eat with a fork instead of chopsticks. So what to do? Have KSY commit some more irredeemable shit like having kids beaten for no good reason and ordering his granddaughter to murder the dude who ingratiated himself to her as a kid. And what did Kreese do to deserve this fate after faithfully serving KSY for decades? Getting fed up with his shit and trying to walk away. Yeah that pretty much makes KSY an irredeemable douche in need of a five finger exploding heart technique to the nards.
And yeah, Silver wanting to kidnap the baby came out of left field but it also made him irredeemable. And with all the shit he'd done, no way was Kreese going to sail off into the sunset either. The theme with KSY, Kreese and Silver was they started out as good guys but got twisted by ego and anger and became gigantic assholes.
The Writing was getting thin and personally it was unbalanced after season 2 where you had to balance the seriousness and comedy of the shows premiere. I would have done a far better job with the writing but the fact is they didn’t plan on it being a huge success so they extended the series and they rushed it and catered to the less intelligent ppl who don’t even know karate or it’s base ……so they balanced it and did a good job but it got dumbed down as it went ……
.I’m glad it ended bc it wasn’t getting better you need to write much better stories and plots otherwise it’s just another Beverly Hills 90210 but they know karate .
I mostly agree with you on Terry Silver, that shit was way out of nowhere. Even Dennis said:
"Furniture store is one thing, but are you sure you want to go there?"
Like it confirmed it was Dennis who destroyed Mikes store but even Dennis was questioning his sensei and boss. My thing is, I wanted to see the ending of Terry like this:
Terry and Iron Dragons lose. Terry walks up to Daniel and Johnny, bows and they both give him a nod of begrudging respect because they know it was Silver that pushed them to greatness.
Later on, Kreese runs in to Terry. He admits that he treated Terry like shit but still uncalled for to be framed for murder. They fight it out and in middle of the fight, they realize about the good ole days of sparring. The scene ends right there and then.
Regarding Master Kim, COMPLETELY DISAGREE!!!
My master is also from South Korea, he is soft spoken, never uses profanity ever and never raises his voice and he is by far the MOST BRUTAL sensei I have ever had in my entire life!
He does hit me but we also do Sun Do which is like Qi Gong. He also mentioned that for training, he had to water fast 3 weeks during winter times in a mountain. Also Master Kim had students hit in the body and was not sending his students to CTE city.
For Sun Do, we have to do breath work and he will do a Nukite or knife hand strike. That would be more of the Japanese karate side of Tang Soo Do.
Also LOL wtf!? When did Kreese serve KSY for decades? Dude went from owning cobra kai to working odd jobs and then becoming homeless for the last ten years prior to the storyline. Also, it seems like KSY kind of found out that Kreese was responsible for the death of his favorite student which was Captain Turner.
Kreese was BUM compared to other KSY students.
They could have made Chosen and Master Kim. Chosen knows Tang Soo Do, that could garner him respect for Master Kim. From there, Master Kim could have turned in to a storyteller to Chozen and he could tell stories of the past similar to How I met your mother series which incorporated Karate kid. Except it woud be How I Met Your Sensei Sato.
True but they could have done so much more with Master Kim. Like Master Kims son or daughter as well as focus on slowly introducing characters that have met Mr. Miyagi and Master Kim or that Master Kim and Mr. Miyagi had a specific Kung Fu lineage or something like that. The kid drama was too recycled.
To much to cover at this time bc I’m drunk and been shoveling for 5 hrs straight and working out for 4 hours in between ( I never let snow storms beat me ) while there’s a lot of Hole plots in the writing ( many of the things that take place wouldn’t actually happen in martial arts if one knows ) it’s made to cater to entertainment and maybit gets ppl into actual taking it up etc etc .I mostly agree with you on Terry Silver, that shit was way out of nowhere. Lol I know you've been jonesing for more KSY. Could have been cool if he got redeemed and came into the American Miyagi-Do-Cobra Kai fold, like how Sato became sympathetic to Miyagi at the end of KK2. But dude trained CPT Turner to be an asshole, and seemed to approve of Kreese's dickish ways as well. When Da Eun first appears in Cobra Kai, coming off the plane Silver greets her but she was expecting Kreese and asks what happened to him. Remember also in KK3 when Silver mentions to Miyagi that his master KSY sends his apologies for Kreese's dishonorable actions at the tournament. It's not stated directly but I can only assume the shit they pulled in KK3 had the approval of KSY and maybe was his idea in the first place. We saw in Cobra Kai that KSY fucking HATES losing a tournament. He wasn't even mad that Quan pulled a knife on an unarmed opponent like a bitch, he was just mad that someone beat his student's ass.
And Silver lol. Kidnapping a baby would have been a new low even for him but as is, there's no way they could have redeemed him. Dude burned down another man's business, bribed a referee, beat the shit out of an innocent idiot and framed another man for it, etc. You could argue that Kreese awakened a sleeping dragon by coming to soy boy Terrance hat in hand and bringing him back into the fold, but Terry still did all that shit and was a full on bad guy.
Now Sensei Wolf was Mike Barnes redux. He was a hired gun brought in to kick ass but his only offenses were being a dick, abusing his students and eating the last two pieces of steak at the hotel in Barcelona. It's notable that after Johnny beat his ass, he respectfully bowed to him before walking off the mat. Possibly he gets redeemed down the line but he wasn't as far gone as Kreese and Silver. He's basically Kreese from KK1.

For me what made Miyagi the best secretly was his boxing background ( this was never a thing in the movies ) when one understands the BoxinG concept it’s a huge advantage I was the best fighter in my school at age 17 just walking in ,no one ever beat me in sparring and even the sensai couldn’t hand.e me ( it is what it is ) and he was tough ) …some ppl are just made different even at 155 pounds then ,I remember he put me up against the biggest strongest guy at 6”7 240 pounds and I dropped hIm hard witha body shot after that need.es to say I didn’t last long there I went on my own way …

you can see that master Kim having genuine care for his students. He has ingredients for medicine lined up and outside of training ground, he speaks with a gentle nurturing manner that touches your heart and soul in the most soothing way that nurtures your spirit with deep sincerity.

Imagine telling somebody you watch this show.
Imagine watching this show.

So I saw this thread title and rushed to binge the last episodes before I accidentally saw any spoilers.
I kept waiting for the ending to suck, but it didn't. I thought it was a solid ending, bringing us back to the whole reason we loved this show in the first place.
I'm not upset about kreese and silver's ending. It was fitting for both of them. Kreese's apology tour was very well-written as well.
Not sure what you expected from KSW. He's like a hundred years old and still kicked his grand daughter's ass. I loved the fact that when she killed him his last words were complimenting her on her technique. Even though he was evil, he was a teacher at his core. He brought out greatness in her. Reminded me of JK Simmons in that movie whiplash.
And maybe I missed it but they never resolved why miyagi fought in the sekai Taikai, right?
They explained why he was accused of theft and all that, but him killing a guy in the tournament was never really explored any further. Daniel's dream just told him to accept it.
That has nothing to do with anything I said thougha guard stole Miyagi mom's pearl necklace and he beat his ass to get it back. Than gave it to Danielson's mom so she can pass it down to Sam.
