Show hasn’t been funny since Will Ferrell left.
Watch the last show. I thought it was actually good all the way through but heres a sample a one of the better ones in my opinion.Show hasn’t been funny since Will Ferrell left.
Been a fan of SNL for a very long time, and have seen most of the older stuff. I love New Yorker humor...very witty, offbeat, yet still classy at times.
But, since Trump's election in 2016, the show has taken a darker turn.
It's one thing to clown the President's inequities, much like they do with every Republican President (Chevy Chase has admitted on camera that SNL has a severe bias for Dems), but the comedians/actors who portray Trump, or those who play roles bashing Trump, have ALL been actors/comedians who have expressed a severe disdain for Trump in real life.
It's comedic to some extent, but there are times when the vibe/tone go beyond your typical joke/bit.
Not to mention, practically EVERY single episode since the election has revolved around Trump...EVERY "Weekend Update" is roughly 75% Trump "coverage"!
I was excited to see SNL, again, after their months-long hiatus, this weekend, but what I perceived was a new low, even for SNL. Chris Rock and Jim Carrey essentially wished malice, illness, death, etc. upon the President, who, regardless of your political affiliation, is still a fellow human being.
To make things worse, SNL has really been laying it on thick with the pedo jokes these past few years.
Anyone who watches it regularly can probably relate to my gripes.
Your thoughts?
MY logic!? YOU'RE the one comparing Trump to Bin Laden!
Yeah? nice to know you’re educated on that one. They found one still of a guy who cannot move his arm, and paired it with trump frantically flailing like he does (used to at this point) when making fun of people caught in a lie.
the lie the guy got caught in was saying he didn’t report about arab americans celebrating in the street on 9/11. He reported on it, and now wants to act like it didn’t happen, Trump most likely didn’t know the guy was disabled.
SNL has been unwatchable for a very very long time.
SNL hasn't been funny for a good amount of time.
SNL has always been vile.
I don't give up that easy. You don't just quit things in life when they're not going your way. As far as I know, it's not against the law to gripe about stuff, especially on online forums.Turn the channel.

The thread title summarized the essence of my post, yet you still came in to check things out. Next time "turn the channel".
Another solid episode this weekend. John Mulaney and the Strokes.
They aren’t conceding it’s just being nervous. You have to go into it knowing that the writers are New York liberals. In 2016 they were convinced that there was no way a significant amount of people would vote for Trump. So now they are on edge and anxious for the election to be over just like a lot of Americans.I saw this episode, and it's clear SNL is conceding their party's defeat. I couldn't get enough of it.

I think this is what you’re talking about. It was pretty good except it went a little long. Jim Carey is a great addition.
I agree that often the satire is just dressing up and reenacting the news. That’s why I thought the Raven bit was good. There was actually an underlying joke that to liberals 4 more years of Trump is a like chilling Halloween tale.Like late shows, I think they’ve only survived using viral clips. Fallon or that shows crew was onto that pretty early on. There’s way too much competing sketch comedy at this point that even when using a celebrity, it’s hard to make it work. I don’t see them ever being completely cancelled but each decade they probably are less popular or iconic. Best route is just to watch the viral sketches, not the whole show.
I think another thing SNL and others have suffered from is satire is no longer good when the current situation is already batshit crazy. A ton of sketches/ stand up the last four years has just been the people describing what actually happened, not even embellishing it to make it funnier. That isn’t really their fault but I think lowered the potential for great comedy recently.
