Social SNL has become vile!

Been a fan of SNL for a very long time, and have seen most of the older stuff. I love New Yorker humor...very witty, offbeat, yet still classy at times.

But, since Trump's election in 2016, the show has taken a darker turn.

It's one thing to clown the President's inequities, much like they do with every Republican President (Chevy Chase has admitted on camera that SNL has a severe bias for Dems), but the comedians/actors who portray Trump, or those who play roles bashing Trump, have ALL been actors/comedians who have expressed a severe disdain for Trump in real life.

It's comedic to some extent, but there are times when the vibe/tone go beyond your typical joke/bit.

Not to mention, practically EVERY single episode since the election has revolved around Trump...EVERY "Weekend Update" is roughly 75% Trump "coverage"!

I was excited to see SNL, again, after their months-long hiatus, this weekend, but what I perceived was a new low, even for SNL. Chris Rock and Jim Carrey essentially wished malice, illness, death, etc. upon the President, who, regardless of your political affiliation, is still a fellow human being.

To make things worse, SNL has really been laying it on thick with the pedo jokes these past few years.

Anyone who watches it regularly can probably relate to my gripes.

Your thoughts?

Turn the channel.

MY logic!? YOU'RE the one comparing Trump to Bin Laden!

I didn't compare Trump to Bin Laden. Using the context of your argument that one should have empathy for any human being. So I should be able to insert any human being into my previous sentence. I'm the one arguing that one's actions during your life determine how much I should give a shit about you dying. Your argument was that since Trump is a human being I shouldn't feel apathetic towards his health. My argument is that despite him being a human being, his actions have been shitty enough where I don't care about his welfare. I'm not going to pretend like I do because I simply don't. And I guarantee he doesn't give a single fuck about my health and welfare either.

It's a spectrum bro. I don't give a shit about Trump or Bin Laden or a million other people of significance. Trump is shitty enough of a person where I wouldn't care less about his passing, and it's probably a net positive to the world. I don't activity wish harm on him though. Bin Laden is shitty enough of a person where I'm happy we went sent DEVGRU to fuck his face up. I actively wished harm on Bin Laden.

Trump = apathy towards his health
Bin laden =actively hoped for his harm

Yeah? nice to know you’re educated on that one. They found one still of a guy who cannot move his arm, and paired it with trump frantically flailing like he does (used to at this point) when making fun of people caught in a lie.

the lie the guy got caught in was saying he didn’t report about arab americans celebrating in the street on 9/11. He reported on it, and now wants to act like it didn’t happen, Trump most likely didn’t know the guy was disabled.

SNL hasn't been funny for a good amount of time.

Globalists own and operate all this crap, turn it off and tune it out.

Turn the channel.
I don't give up that easy. You don't just quit things in life when they're not going your way. As far as I know, it's not against the law to gripe about stuff, especially on online forums.

The thread title summarized the essence of my post, yet you still came in to check things out. Next time "turn the channel".

Ok Karen.

It’s not funny anymore and honestly Alec Baldwin has an unhealthy obsession with Trump.

Im never a fan of the snl political stuff. Its just less inspired and kindve boring. But. I dont blame them for mocking trump to death because hes such a real-life cartoon character and shit show that it seems impossible not to.

Another solid episode this weekend. John Mulaney and the Strokes.

I saw this episode, and it's clear SNL is conceding their party's defeat. I couldn't get enough of it.

They aren’t conceding it’s just being nervous. You have to go into it knowing that the writers are New York liberals. In 2016 they were convinced that there was no way a significant amount of people would vote for Trump. So now they are on edge and anxious for the election to be over just like a lot of Americans.
I think this is what you’re talking about. It was pretty good except it went a little long. Jim Carey is a great addition.

Like late shows, I think they’ve only survived using viral clips. Fallon or that shows crew was onto that pretty early on. There’s way too much competing sketch comedy at this point that even when using a celebrity, it’s hard to make it work. I don’t see them ever being completely cancelled but each decade they probably are less popular or iconic. Best route is just to watch the viral sketches, not the whole show.

I think another thing SNL and others have suffered from is satire is no longer good when the current situation is already batshit crazy. A ton of sketches/ stand up the last four years has just been the people describing what actually happened, not even embellishing it to make it funnier. That isn’t really their fault but I think lowered the potential for great comedy recently.

No doubt all their writers are NY libs...it's pretty evident in 80% of their skits. This week's episode certainly had a different tone to it, though. They definitely know they'll be eating crow this week.

I agree that often the satire is just dressing up and reenacting the news. That’s why I thought the Raven bit was good. There was actually an underlying joke that to liberals 4 more years of Trump is a like chilling Halloween tale.
