Strongman/Armwrestling Sherdog Strongman Discussion V2

Is Magnus ver Magnusson considered a ATG??? I mean like P4P , that middleweight could bang with these heavyweights.

One of the best yes , but gets overshadowed by his own countrymen like John Paul. Also generally he is regarded as a Tier below Big Z , Brian Shaw and Mariusz . Also Kazmier who has one less championship than Magnus is also regarded higher because it's the popular opinion if he was actually invited in the that long gap after he won 3 straight he might actually be at 4 or 5 championships himself.

JF's up and walking now, supposedly a month ahead of schedule and can do little bits of leg workouts, great to hear

Well deserved off day before the Finals.

My top 5

1. Martins
2. Tom
3. Novikov
4. Luke
5. Shaw.

I'm iffy on where Shaw ends up, the Finals events are different and a few of them favor him alot but those are also events that Martins and Tom do well in . I think Luke and Novikov will stay consistent and vie for the 3rd podium slot.

I have Martins as a razor thin over Tom , just giving off of their head to heads going back to the Rogue and Arnold's, those were shorter and heavier events that Martins ended up winning by peaking at the right time and WSM being longer I like his odds , even though we will probably see the best version of Tom yet.

of course, he's not even a middleweight he won all of his titles vs the giants. you know he wasn't even supposed to be in WSM, he was there as a tester for the implements, somebody got hurt and he went in and won the whole damn thing.

there's even interviews of some of the older strongmen in his day when Magnus Ver was competing saying "i couldn't believe it, when i looked at him i thought this little kid got no chance" guy is a legend for sure

Wouldn’t mind seeing Shaw win and then retire. Seems like the 400lb guys are at a bit of a disadvantage in some of the events from previous few years though. Which seems weird to me given it’s a strength competition.

Anyone hear the audio that Mark Boyd released on his instagram? Basically Luke Stoltman confirmed that WSM, Colin Bryce/Giants Live play favorites with certain guys and will screw guys if they don't do what they say.

Pretty much gives a lot more credence to Thor's gripes with WSM 2017. Luke said Colin helped Eddie, and in WSM 2017 everything seemed to be set up for Eddie to win.

they say that, but Hafthor had bigger numbers in almost all of those events that year except the shoulder press. Hafthor just fucked up in my opinion. because almost every lift that would favor Eddie would also favor Brian Shaw and Hafthor.

Tom Stoltman is the current reigning champion and pretty comfortably won his group and he's another 6'8 400lber. Shaw is just getting older. even in events he should've done well in he didn't. i wish he could win a 5th too but with Tom and Martins in there, it's going to be hard. his best chance was last year i think.

I hadn’t watched in a few years when that Martins Licus? (sp) Guy won it. He seemed like one of the smaller competitors, which is ridiculous to me. Shaw comes across as such a likable person, gotta pull for that dude.

the way Martins wins isn't because he's necessarily the strongest, it's because he consistently places in the top 2-3 in most events and then wins a couple. world's strongest man is kind of a strange competition to me because a lot of times it's not really about who is the strongest, a lot of the events are about who has the most stamina or who is the fastest and that's how guys like Martins can win the title.

this isn't new though. they did this to OD Wilson back in the day. he was a gigantic black dude from America and was leading going into the last event against Jon Pall Sigmarrson who was significantly smaller than OD. they changed the event to a ridiculous thing where you carry a pack on your back and run around a literal track. obviously the 6'5 400lb OD lost and with that never got to became a world strongman title holder.

even the famed Mariusz Pudzianowski was really never the strongest man in the competition, he was just the most athletic and they framed the events around him. there were guys like 500lb "Big Daddy" Glenn Ross who were much stronger than he was but he never even won a single title while Pudzianowski won like 5.
