PC Sherdog PC Build/Buy Thread, v6: My Power Supply Burned Down My House

This is the one he ended up going with, it fit his budget best. I would have loved to get him a 4060 TI or 4080, but that pushed it over his cap that he had to work with.

The ABC Cyclone you have there, I found one similar that was our no. 2 option.

Thank you all for hunting, I hope it doesn't come DOA for him.

No time for this project but interesting idea.

I have been playing around with PROXMOX Virtual Environment and it is completely free for home users. It could not be easier to run it is so crazy intuitive you can be up and running an using in less than an hour. The startup requires a bit of time but once done it is amazing. You can delete operating systems without breaking the other app running.

It really is very good at making it easy to run I worked with vmware and this just seems easier to get up to speed.

Sherbros, I need your help. Looking for a machine that has decent video editing and can play games at a decent level. I would prefer something that is future proof so I can update certain parts when necessary.

Budget $850-$1000

What software do you use for your editing?
What games are you intending to play? What resolution are you expecting?

Adobe and Canva mainly. For games, I play just about everything. From Metroidvanias to AAA ARPGs but my eyes are so bad I probably couldn’t tell the difference between 1440 and 4k to be honest.

Unless you have a desire to build your own PC, iBuyPower and CyberPower at your local Best Buy will be your best bet. The former tends to have better -70 prices if you're stretching, the latter focuses more on -60 level cards.

If you have a card, Costco also always carries this 4060 model (on sale it'll be 899 or 999), and an iBuyPower tower that's an i9 and 4070 Super that is on clearance at for 1399 now. If you're willing to stretch and want the latter, you'll have to be quick and lucky, Costco is resetting its gaming portfolio in the next month.

Quality won't be perfect, but you get what you pay for and they're easy to upgrade.

Are you starting with anything already owned? Or does the budget also include parts like the Pc tower, monitor, mouse and so on?

Whatever you get, you'll want an NVIDIA build. And for the editing the CPU is more important than the GPU, so if you do get lucky enough that you could snag that Costco iBuypower for $900-$1000 with the 14700K, you won't do better at retail. Otherwise, these are the best values among solid brands and well-built units as they are currently priced scaling up in your budget from Amazon, Best Buy, or Newegg:
*There is technically an iBuyPower with the same major specs within your quoted budget at $999, but I'd heartily recommend this MSI for overall higher build quality and peripheral components for just $20 more (ex. faster RAM, better WiFi, better motherboard, etc)

Thanks Gang. I have the MSI saved in my browser and will go to Costco on @avenue94 advice today to see if they have any on sale. If you don't know what you're looking for it's difficult to pick a computer that you think will fit your needs because there are so many options within the same price range. Really confusing stuff.

Also just to be clear, as far as I know iBuyPoeer will keep their slot for this year so that desktop will get replaced by 5060 model in the summer. Not sure on the CPU for that or tariff price increases though.

So don't sweat it if your costco is out of that model.

What are your guys thoughts on this one? It’s refurbed but I can swing the extra $100 for the 3 year warranty. Obviously a tad over budget but the 4070 looks nice for that price and it should last a few good years with the warranty.

ASOS ROG G16CH

The G16 is a pseudo SFF model, so notorious for questionable cooling. Having said that, if you trust the warranty and are willing to put up with a potential headache later, then yeah, you won't find 4070 at that price.

I don't know your situation and how much loose change you have around, but I'd just pay the extra 200 bucks for the i9 4070 Super SKUs that Costco is getting rid of at the moment.

I know a lot of people don't like to hear it, but the prebuilt ones from iBUYPOWER and CyberPower are legit. It was the only way I could get a decent video card when the prices went up a few years ago, but they're all built really well and seem to work good for the most part.

Can you link me one of those? I’m trying to stay within the $1000 but I may be able to toss a few more at it.

I built a PC back in 2019 before I had kids. It was a fun project but I could tell it needed some serious cable management. When I go to PC Parts picker, I’m finding I’m paying close to the same amount for the prebuilds. The extra cost for a better put together PC seems ok to me.
