PC Sherdog PC Build/Buy Thread, v6: My Power Supply Burned Down My House

Can you link me one of those? I’m trying to stay within the $1000 but I may be able to toss a few more at it.
It looks like they pulled the online page unfortunately. A few Costco stores might have it on shelf still but no real way of checking short of calling them or showing up.

If you're feeling really up to it, the SKU 1857562. Tower itself is the iBuyPower SlateMesh 9N47S01.

Other options:
Microcenter: Asus G16, same as what you linked but new and 13th gen instead of 14, so not much of a performance hit there. Not sure if you live near a Microcenter.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/iBUYPOWE...Windows-11-Home-64-bit-Y40BA7N4701/2688289785
Walmart: This is on sale but it's Ryzen. Ask Mick or the others how much of a hit that is.

Looks like my budget increased a bit so I'm now in the range of 3,000-4,000. Would I be better off building my own at this price range?

Haha I hope my paycheck grows by a bit too. Nice.

If you're getting RTX 50 and want it soon, prebuild is still the cheaper option and going to be much quicker while supply catches up.

If you can wait and want to build, go for it.

Haha not my paycheck. It was a bit of miscommunication between me and my pops. I'm helping him with some business and he's purchasing the PC. He told me not to be cheap and he was expecting it in the 3000-4000 range.

@avenue94 thinking of getting this one. Thoughts?

March Ryzen 9950X3D
If you really want a 9950X3D, you're gonna pay the premium for it. The others in the thread can tell you more about performance and benchmarks than me. If you're worried most about productivity, I wouldn't go for the X3D, especially this early while supply is tight and every has a huge premium on it. You're also getting a 4TB HDD, which is fine, but not really a freebie at this point.

If you're willing to give up the gaming boost and HDD, CyberPower has these options at Best Buy and Costco that will save you several hundred bucks for a 9950X or Core Ultra 9 285K. FYI, latter is not great at gaming, but pretty good for productivity if I recall. That's probably what I lean toward, especially if you go for a 9950X you can always upgrade to X3D on your own without much fuss.

March Ryzen 9950X3D
That's not one of their set prebuilts, it's a custom building foundation. Don't misunderstand me, it would ship as a complete computer as you linked it, but either you don't know how to link your build once it's properly customized, or more likely you just linked the base foundation. You don't want the base foundation. It's never ideal. For example, you don't have the free mousepad checked, the $50 off coupon selected, or an upgraded AIB variant of the RTX 5080 selected for cheaper than the Founder's Edition that is pre-selected.

Here's the other secret: the foundations aren't evenly priced even if you customize the exact same build. The ones they usually push as "specials" don't have the cheapest baseline. The only thing that meaningfully distinguishes their customizer foundation is the motherboard socket. You appear to be after a Ryzen 9000 series foundation. I just tested a quick and arbitrary baseline to figure relative pricing:

CyberpowerPC Ryzen 9000 Series Customizer Foundations
  • March Ryzen 9950X3D = $2069
  • Gaming PC Master 9500 = $2023
  • March Special II = $1851
  • Gaming PC Master 9400 = $1803
So you want the Gaming PC Master 9400 foundation. Exact same computer will cost you $266 less with that foundation than the foundation you linked no matter what you pick.

Okay, if you go this route, my recommendations:
  1. At the top, take the free mousepad, the $5 Corsair K70 mechanical keyboard, and the $5 Corsair M75 Air wireless mouse. These are way below market pricing: effective perks of the purchase. Later, way down the list, in Accessories, you'll remove the pre-selected Cyberpower Keyboard and Mouse unless you want them for rainy day backups. Because they're very reasonably priced at $5-$6 a pop.

  2. Take the $50 "instant rebate". Free money.

  3. Chassis: there are a ton of options, but the in-house CyberpowerPC Syber Grvty case looks perfectly suitable to me. Comes with 3x ARGB fans, and you'll be able to fit the 360mm AIO liquid cooler you pick in the top. Because I assume you'll want a 360mm CPU cooler. This is where aesthetics plays the biggest role. But I would suggest you pick one of the cases with mesh/airflow as the focus, and if it doesn't include fans, you'll have to add some in the next section.

  4. CPU: a downgrade to the 9800X3D is advisable. Do you stream? Do you share your screen with friends on Discord? If not, there's is a 1% difference between the 9950X3D and 9800X3D in terms of gaming performance, so you'll get almost nothing out of the $320 upcharge. It will, however, spank the non-3D 9950X.

  5. CPU Cooler: the Bitspower 360mm CPU cooler they've licensed to rebrand looks suitable.

  6. GPU: Zotac AMP Extreme Infinity RTX 5080 is an upclocked AIB for cheaper than the Founder's Edition.

  7. PSU: Phanteks 1000W AMP PSU is a no brainer.

  8. Motherboard: MSI Pro B850-P WIFI. Stick to MSI. Best mobos for the socket, and best values on Cyberpower.

  9. RAM: You don't need more than 32GB RAM right now, and the dumbest markup on any component is their RAM upcharges (+$180 to go to 64GB vs. $65 for that extra 32GB on the open market). You can always buy and add more later yourself if you need it. Easiest job in PC assembly. You just plug it in.

  10. Primary Drive: Kingston Fury Renegade SSD 2TB is the best value of the high performance SSDs.

  11. Secondary Drive: you don't have to take the 4TB HDD. At $80, it's fairly priced, but it would be nice if it was 7200RPM instead of 5400 RPM. Up to you. I left it off.

Here is the result:
($2983) https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/saved/1TJEN4

So you have a large budget leeway if you desire it; unfortunately not enough for an RTX 5090 upgrade. However, having written all that, the RTX 5080 is an extremely poor value from them with these customizers in comparison to the RX 9070 XT pricing (-$730). And the Ryzen 7 9700X is the clear winner on value for CPUs. Change those two things, with the ASRock 9070 XT Steel Legend, and take the free copy of the Monster Hunter Wilds courtesy of the CPU change, and the price drops to $2069.

@avenue94 & @Madmick Thanks guys, I truly appreciate the help. I ended up going with the one you posted Mick. I changed everything to black but kept the same components and doubled up on the SSD.

I'm all set for the moment, though I'll definitely have some technical questions for you guys in the future.

Really had an issue with a LAN cable that was routed to a room with a NUC with Norton,
to stream some videos I made.
Turns out, the smart firewall of Norton together with a 4 port switch wasn't a good combination.
Without the switch no freezing image or delays.

Anyone have network issues by Norton or switches ?

Congratulations.

Good thing you moved. I just rechecked your link. I think the pricing for the new RTX 50 series cards was sloppier than they intended. Because you go there now, just several days later, and the RTX 5080 Zotac Gaming Solid OC model is +$78 more than the baseline Founder's Edition, not the -$56 less you paid (IIRC) for the superior Zotac AMP Extreme Infinity model you got.

Yes. Norton on install is supposed to install its own php version. However it didnt and was piggybacking off ours. Causing hundreds of live status errors daily on our PoE'd switch devices.

That is sick and the Lawler gif on the AIO is awesome.

Thanks Man. Yea, I don't even see it on there anymore. Good call on that one. Looks like it'll take about 3 weeks for them to build and ship.

Stoked to finally have something better than a $300 laptop.

CyberPower got back and said the Zotac wouldn't be in stock for another month and asked if I wanted to switch to the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 OC instead so I took it. I have so much backlog that my laptop can't handle. Can't wait another month. Hope it's just as good!

Serendipitous. Surprisingly, it actually appears to be better.

Ultimately, all 5080's will perform nearly identically since they're all 5080's. But the Gigabyte is nearly identical in cooling performance:

The difference is the Gigabyte runs at a 2730 MHz boost clock (+113 Mhz over baseline) while the Zotac only runs at a 2670 Mhz (+53 Mhz over baseline). So it stays just as cool on the GPU and nearly as cool on the VRAM while running at a higher frequency at the same power & noise level.

The MSI cards have separated themselves. Those are the best-made NVIDIA AIBs, now.

I'm looking for a 5070, still not sure if I need a 5070 TI
I mean, a 5070 would play most things on high settigs right ?

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Mick. It definitely makes me feel better about the switch. I was just hoping I wasn’t getting an inferior model in a bait-and-switch situation. But like you said, they’re all pretty close performance-wise since they’re all 5080s.

To be honest, this machine will probably spend most of its time doing graphics work and data crunching. I know it’s a bit overkill, but I’m hoping it’ll last me a solid five years without needing any upgrades, aside from maybe the storage. I’d also like to find a good way to broadcast to my TV if I decide to game a bit. I already sit in front of a computer enough as it is, and I really prefer kicking back on the couch when I play.

Yes, but it has half the ROPs, so even though it's $200 less, at least at MSRP, it's a large step down in performance. It's like NVIDIA is deliberately pricing their GPUs to disincentivize any purchase that is less than $600 now.

Unless the Ti version comes at a stupid markup it's worth springing to buy it.

Ehh normally I would say it’s fine either way you go but the 4gb of ram that the Ti has may play a big factor in its longevity. If you plan to upgrade in 2-3 years though, either way is fine. I’d buy whichever based on the deals at the time
