Sherdog has a weird, irrational hatred for Belal

Belal is monumentally boring as a fighter, as a person, and I have no interest in watching him or following his career.

does he get results? yes he does, good for him, but he is dull as fuck and nobody really cares about him and UFC will already know that.

His mouth.

this.

i dont know why, though. he doesnt seem disrespectful, just a tad bit arrogant.

i think it has to do with him being dull fighter/person and being in love with his own voice.

he actually has potential as a future commentator. he s well spoken.

but damn. i cant hear him talk.
he has the chsrisma of a flat tire.

He's boring, in and out of the ring.

Personally I don't like anyone who talks about their religion in the context of combat sports.

Because he doesn't look like someone you would think is a fighter, let alone an elite one, and he doesn't try to be exciting, he just does enough to get him the win. I do agree Belal could try and look for finishes more often but at the same time, how many times have we seen fighters who try to go for a finish prematurely and end up getting dropped or gassing out and losing momentum? So.. I don't really blame Belal for playing it safe and not trying to finish unless it's guaranteed. I can understand why one wouldn't like him because of how he fights and that he's boring or whatever, but the way people literally HATE him is just unwarranted.

It's probably a chip on his shoulder more than arrogance to be honest, and with the way people hate on this man religiously, I can't really say I blame him..

Belal:
  • 9 fight win streak
  • Defeated 3 top 5 opponents (Wonderboy, Luque, Burns)
  • Fought below in the rankings off a win and beat an undefeated fighter
  • Always been active
  • Found a way to neutralize every opponent
But Sherdog is still crying about him being an 'average' and 'boring' fighter.

On second thoughts, being on a 9 fight win streak and beating top 3 opponents is nothing special. And why is he smart with his game planning? Why doesn't he just go out there and play to his opponents' strengths? Why does he minimize damage and not mindlessly brawl like Chandler and Gaethje?

Real talk though, you don't have to like the guy but holy shit this place feels like reddit with all the circle jerking and recycled belal hate. If you're still denying him at this stage then you're just another hater. Plain n simple.

Haters will be seeing a lot more Belal now that he got his title shot secured. Enjoy.
For the record, i hate his style and unwillingness to turn it up even a little bit when he has an opponent hurt or outclassed, but i don't hate HIM.

I hate watching him fight, but i respect his skills and win streak, although the fact that he has them and still won't throw down makes the hate multiply.

All the derpy good ole boy types are obviously going to hate him for being muslim, but fuck those idiots.

I hate him for boring me, no more, no less.

Belal has earned my respect. He fights smart, but still has that certain amount of aggression that effects his opponents tendencies

I understand that burns was hurt, but regardless he has shown enough to convince me he belongs in the top 5.

He wasn't liked much before most of these happened.

He’s a points fighter with 3 finishes and 0 knockdowns over the course of 20 ufc fights but talks like this

Knocking a guy for trying to win a title eliminator fight, which is a once in a lifetime opportunity, instead of being flashy and showy makes no sense to me.
This would be all true if all his fights didn't play out as title eliminator.

he's boring and lacks blood lust

had burns hurt several times and chose to do nothing

I don’t hate Belal.
The guy puts in the work & shows up and does his job whoever he’s against. However his personality lacks and his in cage work does not help his case at all. He’s a boring fighter even if he is successful. I totally understand why the casual fanbase doesn’t care about him.

Sadly for him the UFC isn’t a meritocracy.

dont hate Belal... he is just boring to watch most fights

I’ll have to get back to you, as I was not familiar with such bias

It's not weird. Its easy to understand.

I dont hate him at all,and wish him all the luck, but I understand totally why fans dont warm up to him.

1) He is a dork,he doesnt come off as a guy who has ever fought in his life in interviews. If you just saw a photo of him in a fight he looks like a peak arab warrior, but he comes off as a nerd with not a whole lot of charisma

2) His fighting style is very meat and potatoes. He's good enough to win without risking much. It may not please the crowd, but he's quite effective, and efficient with his offense.

That being said,I still like him,and if he won the title,i'd be happy for him,cos he would have succeeded in spite of himself.

Pretty much this.

He is a bit entitled. He has come off as follows…

I’m on a good win streak, you should support me and demand a title shot on my behalf. if you don’t like me, it’s because I’m Muslim..

The reality is His style is very bland.. very comparable Sean Strickland. I actually have supported him since he joined UFC, still do.

Hate is a strong word. I’m merely bored and disappointed by him and there's nothing weird or irrational about it.

He's forgettable and not very interesting to watch. Winning fights doesn't automatically mean you're obligated to like someone. All that being said, he's certainly earned his title shot and should be the one facing Leon instead of Colby.
