Sherdog has a weird, irrational hatred for Belal

He doesn’t have a fan friendly style, he is boring as fuck and even the most hardcore mma fan won’t dance around that. Highly skilled and entertaining aren’t mutually exclusive, it would be a crime if they didn’t give him a shot though especially considering he got screwed in that first Leon fight.

He has fought everyone from undefeated prospects (Sean Brady) to true number 1 contender like Gilbert, Colby does not deserve a title shot over him but if he gets it I’d hope Belal gets the winner.

Yes but my point isnt that he's disliked.

its the people who dont like his style not recognizing the skill it takes to go on a nine fight winstreak with that style.

People certainly recognize the skill it takes, it's just that the fashion he does it in isn't appreciated. It goes one step further with the way he talks. He talks like he finishes guys in Gaethje or Chandler fashion, but then goes the distance with a handicapped fighter.

Convo has come full circle at this point. It's painfully obvious why he isn't liked. Talks like he's Mike Tyson, fights like he's Jon Fitch.

I still think hes more interesting than Fitch. He's always there to be hit if you can hit him. He's not just laying on guys riding the time out.

I don't hate him. I'm muslim, he's Muslim. I was raised and spent most my life in the Chi as he was too. I wish the brother nothing but success.

Objectively, he has some great qualities as a fighter - gas tank, pressure, defensively sound and responsible, sticky wrestling, great top control, strong, good chin, good volume in his striking.
However he also is objectively flat footed when striking, with awful movement. Very telegraphic and labored strikes, slow hands with some of the worst boxing in the division.

Because of the above, I certainly am not a fan and I think it does kind of rub ppl the wrong way when they never get to actually see what a fight of yours vs an elite opponent looks like... Leon was beating him up until the eye poke and he took an injured Burns with one hand to a decision without even hurting him once.

Meh
this is fair criticism

The difference is you wont boo him until your voice becomes hoarse in effort to damage his career

His fight sucked. that was one of the most boring co main events to a PPV ever. No one would pay to see him fight is the problem

His style isn't as pleasing as a knockout or submission artist.

His movements are janky, but not enough so to be comical.

personality of a pet rock

yet extremely effective. if he pulled off an Iron Sheik type role him and Colby could be on a magnificent head on collision.

That same ppl touting Belal's 49-46 over a man without 1 his 4 limbs shit on Colby for his 50-45 against Masvidal. And vice versa.

Is it too much to ask for some fucking consistency from some of you standard-fluid individuals?

I feel like Belal is just a Colby-Lite at this point. Was boring as fuck for most of his career, so he's trying to push a shitty "heel" character to get attention. Only difference is at least Colby's was semi creative and kind of funny (to some people). Belal just comes across as whiny and is still boring.

Belal:
  • 9 fight win streak
  • Defeated 3 top 5 opponents (Wonderboy, Luque, Burns)
  • Fought below in the rankings off a win and beat an undefeated fighter
  • Always been active
  • Found a way to neutralize every opponent
But Sherdog is still crying about him being an 'average' and 'boring' fighter.

On second thoughts, being on a 9 fight win streak and beating top 3 opponents is nothing special. And why is he smart with his game planning? Why doesn't he just go out there and play to his opponents' strengths? Why does he minimize damage and not mindlessly brawl like Chandler and Gaethje?

Real talk though, you don't have to like the guy but holy shit this place feels like reddit with all the circle jerking and recycled belal hate. If you're still denying him at this stage then you're just another hater. Plain n simple.

Haters will be seeing a lot more Belal now that he got his title shot secured. Enjoy.

Sherdogs is full of casuals who don't have a a great if any understanding of the details you mentioned.

Look at how many where transfixed on alex being "3-0" and over looked the details of those 3 fights.

Or how Andersons flashly style is celebrated but that limits of that hands down chin out style sre ignored (his loss streak).

Same thing with the stock market - the casuals will jump on whatever hype train stock is flavourful of the moment and ignore solid, consistently performing but albeit boring companies.

In short this forum isn't that smart.

Alexander Volkanovski: out of 12 UFC wins, 4 were finishes (by tko). 8 decision wins

Tyron Woodley: out of 9 UFC wins, 6 were finishes (3 being clean kos)

Please enlighten us: when has Volkanovski EVER been booed , at all, and been called "boring "?

Belal looked a lot softer this last fight and still pulled off the win. I get the feeling he's the hardest working fighter outside of Dagestan.

If you’re playing the race card, get over your victim mentality.
Fighters who look like Aljo, Woodley, Jones, Edward's, Usman, Belal etc get their stock and careers altered by hateful fans. That's bullshit and it's a good thing to call it out

As we all know, neutralizing your opponent makes you extremely fan friendly. Just ask Jared Rosholt and Jake Shields

He made himself a meme with his stupid nickname. Deal with it.

to me dude is boring AF but there is a place in true sport for him. If anything the ufc are to blame for not yellow carding him for so many decisions.

Belal is a Nice Guy

The issue is that he's this generation's Jon Fitch

He's good and he deserves a title shot. That doesn't change the fact that he's boring and a crybaby.
