Sherdog has a weird, irrational hatred for Belal

I was turning the corner with his fight with Brady. I felt he was coming into his own

Then he gets to "save" 288. He puts on a sparring session with a clearly injured Burns. Belal was winning every point of the fight and he FUCKING COASTED

No. All the bad hype is true. He's solid but he's a cancer to entertainment. People pay $80 for this shit. Fuck him
Yes, it's Belal's fault that people are willing to shell out $80 for Dana and his homies to import snow.

People are calling him boring because he is boring. No irrational hate required.

As I said in a thread last night, it is almost amazing that a performance that was that high level and technical could be so boring.

"Neutralizing" is not exciting.

Thanks for finally being honest (although it can be said his low finish rate doesn't help his case either)
lol i knew you were going to respond to that one. and i was being sarcastic, making fun of you, unknowingly to you. what a win. just so you know.

There's nothing irrational about my hatred of that guy. I forget his name.

Belal:
  • 9 fight win streak
  • Defeated 3 top 5 opponents (Wonderboy, Luque, Burns)
  • Fought below in the rankings off a win and beat an undefeated fighter
  • Always been active
  • Found a way to neutralize every opponent
But Sherdog is still crying about him being an 'average' and 'boring' fighter.

On second thoughts, being on a 9 fight win streak and beating top 3 opponents is nothing special. And why is he smart with his game planning? Why doesn't he just go out there and play to his opponents' strengths? Why does he minimize damage and not mindlessly brawl like Chandler and Gaethje?

Haters will be seeing a lot more Belal now that he got his title shot secured. Enjoy.

The fans whether on here or at the venue are under no obligation to pretend Belal is not a boring fighter.

He is an extremely boring fighter that makes little to no effort to finish his opponents.

That doesn't mean he is not an effective fighter because he obviously is but conflating the two is disingenuous.

He reminds me of Jon Fitch. He's a good fighter, well rounded but something about his style and personality is so bland.

Belal is the perfect example of "master of none" and it leads to an incredibly boring style where he's hard to beat but it's not fun to watch. He sounds whiny on the mic and when guys that trash talk and put have that kind of fight style, it just doesn't work.

I don't hate Belal, I think he's a pretty good guy, actually.

Respect his effort and dedication to fighting and conditioning.

But he literally excels at nothing.

Not an elite striker.
Not an elite submission artist.
Finishes very few fights.

Not exactly a GQ model, either.

He is a good, workmanlike performer, and that is all that he is.

Can't fault him for that; but can't really get motivated to watch him perform, either.

It is what it is.

It's Sherdog, everything gets turned up to 11. @Volador makes a good point, Belal is utterly lacking in any signature wins or highlight finishes, he literally has no highlight reel to speak of. Put it this way, I'm a pretty hardcore fan, as in I remember the Danielle Taylor vs. Maryna Moroz fight where the latter managed to air-punch her way to a 6% significant strike percentage, and I can't remember a single one of Belal's finishes. The only fight of his I remember is the one against Leon that ended in an eyepoke NC. FFS, I remember more Jon Fitch fights than Belal fights, and Fitch has been gone from the UFC for over 10 years. How the hell is anyone supposed to get hyped for a guy like that?
You’re arguing a straw man, nobody is asking you to get hyped for Belal or like him, you can even hate him if you want. But calling him a bum and pretending as though he hasn’t earned a TS is where I draw the line, and that’s happening way too much here. Combat sports has always strived to be a merit based system, mma fans are the ONLY combat sport fans who actively and proudly support choosing contenders and champions through emotion rather than merit. It’s absurd.

It's not weird. Its easy to understand.

I dont hate him at all,and wish him all the luck, but I understand totally why fans dont warm up to him.

1) He is a dork,he doesnt come off as a guy who has ever fought in his life in interviews. If you just saw a photo of him in a fight he looks like a peak arab warrior, but he comes off as a nerd with not a whole lot of charisma

2) His fighting style is very meat and potatoes. He's good enough to win without risking much. It may not please the crowd, but he's quite effective, and efficient with his offense.

That being said,I still like him,and if he won the title,i'd be happy for him,cos he would have succeeded in spite of himself.

Good fighter but he just doesn’t have the “it” factor that makes people love you. It is what it is. He’s very good maybe even great he’s just not compelling at all to most people

These.

I don't hate the guy. He's got talent, found success, does his thing.

But, I'm not exactly paying to see him either. That's less to do with his talent, more with the way he utilizes it i guess, idk.

He's one of those guys where reading the recap delivers as much excitement as watching him fight live, at least for me.

He excels at winning. There's something to the fact that he can win w such basic offense.

Do people here like ANYONE unanimously?

When the fuck has Sherdog ever liked a fighter simply because he was on a win streak?

You sound like a Jon Fitch fan

You must not be familiar with the multiple 30 page Fedor circle jerks that pop up every week here.
