Sherdog has a weird, irrational hatred for Belal

Minimal talent??

so boring = minimal talent?
When you compare him to other top fighters it's evident. He doesn't have insane power, crazy speed, or dynamic techniques. What he does have is excellent conditioning, discipline in sticking with the gameplan, and minimizing his opponent's offensive capabilities.

The UFC absolutely is a meritocracy, just not in a statistical sense.
Fighters are rewarded for entertaining the fans and putting asses in seats. Which is why guys like Cowboy or Derrick Lewis headlined 9 cards each despite having many losses and never held a belt.

I don’t hate Belal.
The guy puts in the work & shows up and does his job whoever he’s against. However his personality lacks and his in cage work does not help his case at all. He’s a boring fighter even if he is successful. I totally understand why the casual fanbase doesn’t care about him.

Sadly for him the UFC isn’t a meritocracy.

I was really hoping we’d see a Belal 2.0 Terminator Edition after he went to train with Khabib and the Dagestanis.

That’d be bananas if he’d have come up and submitted Burns, wrestle-fucked Leon for the belt, then outgrappled and submitted Usman after he inevitably got another shot.

People would be talking GOAThommed shit.

I don't like being told to remember someones name.

if colby did what belal did to burns you'd have dumbasses talking about how entertaining it was, how elite his cardio is and how good his striking looked during the fight
I don't think Covington would have sparred for 20 min with Burns. He would have taken it to the ground. Belal was too scared to try taking Gilbert down and kept his distance even with 1 arm.

I met Belal and he’s so different in person. He doesn’t know how to handle media well. He comes across as defensive and unlikeable

Belal:
  • 9 fight win streak
  • Defeated 3 top 5 opponents (Wonderboy, Luque, Burns)
  • Fought below in the rankings off a win and beat an undefeated fighter
  • Always been active
  • Found a way to neutralize every opponent
But Sherdog is still crying about him being an 'average' and 'boring' fighter.

On second thoughts, being on a 9 fight win streak and beating top 3 opponents is nothing special. And why is he smart with his game planning? Why doesn't he just go out there and play to his opponents' strengths? Why does he minimize damage and not mindlessly brawl like Chandler and Gaethje?

You don't have to like the guy but holy shit this place feels like reddit with all the circle jerking and recycled belal hate. If you're still denying him at this stage then you're just another hater. Plain n simple.

Haters will be seeing a lot more Belal now that he got his title shot secured. Enjoy.
I feel zero hate towards the guy, he just doesn’t interest me. I can’t think of a single memorable moment in any of his fights, other than when he got flatlined by Luque in their first fight.

Yeah he’d take him down and never once attempt to finish the fight.. so much more entertaining than what Belal did

Both Belial, Aljamain and Iggys personalities cause people to dislike them.

In Belials case it's not even dislike but apathy. Very boring.

He's too good to be denied. there is no other contender with a better unbeaten streak:

GSP was too good to be denied. This is just not the same thing. I can’t wait to see him fight a top 5 WW who isn’t injured.

Sounds like talent to me!

Whoopin' up on poor Gilbert Burns sure didn't help Belal.

I think he has this weird "negative charisma" going on. He's just naturally unlikeable and ridiculous at the same time.

He's a very good fighter though, definitely top3 / contender.

He'll never be popular though.

There's nothing weird or irrational about it, it makes a lot of sense.

He's not the most exciting fighter in the roster, is very technical and often goes to decisions.

He has no real charisma, and is a very down to earth guy, doesn't trash talk, or do anything funky to sell fights or arouse hype.

That's it.
