Shavkat Rakhmonov Wants to Wait for UFC Title Shot Next

Probably not a good idea if Islam gets the belt.

Maybe he's fought better strikers but he didn't strike with Wonderboy, and Holland proved a better striker than Neal when they fought.

Also the Garry fight was basically a staring contest & wall-n-stall fest, Shavkat's striking didn't look great at all.

JDM has way better boxing fundamentals. It would be competitive on the feet but JDM would land the cleaner shots and has better defense. Shavkat as zero head movement.
 
I don't think he's gonna have a choice. I do think he did enough to deserve a title shot, but after such a long layoff, I don't think he has the luxury to decide to wait for a title shot (UFC will probably tell him if he wants to wait, that he's getting skipped)

The only guys really deserving of a titleshot are Shavkat and Brady.

Brady: 8-1 since UFC debut Oct 2019 (fought last March)
Shavkat: 7-0 since debut Oct 2020 (fought last Dec)

Neither guy is exactly the most active

Not a good idea for who? Islam has never remotely dealt with someone Shavkat's size before.

I'm looking into the future though. Brady and the rest of the top guys of the division are going to be fighting at least 1-2 more times before Shavkat comes back in 2026. It's not really fair for them to fight 1-2 more times while possibly picking up big wins to have to take a back seat to Shavkat who has been out for over a year, maybe even close to 2 years by the time he comes back since we don't know when in 2026 he will return. This division is too busy to be sitting out and coming back demanding a TS without having to do something again IMO.
 
Its very risky. Yes he is top contender but he'll have fought once in 2+ years by that point and who knows when Islam/JDM winner even fights again next year. Thats alot of inactivity and being out of mind while others are fighting and winning.
 
This guy is faker than Bo Nickal. When the prospects start rank squatting, you know this sport is doomed.

He needs to fight Morales in a title eliminator or retire.

Belal is ranked #1 so not him.
Brady is ranked at 2 and is on a 3 fight win streak with Leon, Burns & Gastellum after losing to Belal. So not him.
Shavkat is ranked 3
Usman and Leon are 4 & 5 Not them.
Garry is next with a 1 fight streak since losing to Shavkat so not him.
Morales is next and at 18-0 looks amazing. Burns at 38 and Magny at 37 are good wins but he needs to fight someone elite and not seconds from retirement.

I don't see any reason to punish a guy who got legit injuries and there isn't anyone with more quality wins let alone multiple as you assert.

I think Shavkat is ready by the end of the year iirc, so that means he will be ready to fight the winner of Islam/JDM.

Can't really see anyone except perhaps Brady doing enough in that time to pass Shavkat and that crazy aura he carries.

Many people didn’t fully understand what he said in the interview. He gave the interview in Kazakh, and many translated it incorrectly. He said that he will do whatever the UFC tells him to do - if they tell him to wait for a title shot, he will wait. He himself doesn’t want to take another contender fight, but it all depends on what the UFC says.
