News Shavkat Rakhmonov Returning Jan/Feb

He's already proven himself. An injury isn't a reason to keep him from his well deserved title shot.
His only top wins are Wondergrandpa and Garry which he almost choked. He's fought two times in the last two years.

To act like he's went through some gauntlet is crazy.

imo he will fight the winner of Sean vs Morales before having a title shot

Well unfortunately it ain't gonna do much to remedy the permanent logjam WW seems doomed to be in. The way I see it - Islam probably beats Jack and we're gonna be in for another annoying ass fucking stint of yet another Dagestani holding up the belt.

But I think if anyone wants the opportunity to be the guy who takes Shavkat's 0, the time is now with him coming off that horribly long layoff.
Since when is Islam holding up divisions? He fought twice a year consistently and defended LW title 4 times. He also vacated when he had no more intention to fight in LW. That's more active than most.

Good news, my mate told me he'd heard Shavkat had done his knee again.

Awful news for such a fan favorite. Might end up being one of the bigger what-ifs in UFC history. Who knows what he'll be like after so many surgeries along with the natural aging process.

Shaved cat gonna need a tune up by the time his knee is sorted out 😒

They said these rumors are false and he's training full time for his next fight. His manager came out in October and claimed it's not true.
I just realized that IG post is dated in October. The one that linked to it was new and it matched the post above mine. I'm glad it is fake news.

High level chess match coming up and I agree, JDM is a LOT better than the general public seems to want to give him credit for.
WW is just very strong right now and he hasn't gone head to head with most of the top dogs like Brady, Shavkat, Garry, morales, Leon, usman, ect.

because of this we dont really know what to expect from him. I feel like we've seen a bit more of the other guys ceilings, but we've not quite seen him against the elite of the elite, just belal

JDM TKOs Islam and we get the WW fight we deserve in Jack vs Shavkat.
JDM beating Islam is really the best hope for welterweight. Then all of a sudden the division starts moving.

But if Islam wins*, I could see it not moving for a long time.

That's true and fair.

I have picked up some things from watching film on JDM.

His boxing is nice and very intelligently adapted to MMA.
He uses angles very well, both entry and exit and punch trajectory.

His distance and range management are on point, which is a key element in keeping fights standing. Lost of space to travel to get to his hips or even a body lock. Overall very good "anti grappling"
And JDM fights very well put of either stance which gives him options to use mirrored stance to leave more distance or southpaw vs southpaw if he needs to force the issue of trying to land power punches.
I'm curious to see if he can utilize the "Pep step" v step footwork that Lomachenko, Mike Tyson and Willie Pep all used to flank opponents.

I get the impression a lot of people are sleeping on him vs Islam. Islam is a tough test for sure, but JDM is better than most give him credit for. I think he will a pretty decent advantage in long range striking. (If he can keep it there)
