We have a few indoor courts around where I live that are nice. I played a couple of times a week last winter and plan on doing the same this winter. Turns into a pretty good winter sport!
I'm a one handed back hander also. Tried the double and it didn't feel right at all. My backhand slice I'd say is one of my best shots and everything else is still a work in progress. Forehand is getting there but not much top spin on it.
Yeah you should get back into it. I ran into a guy who also played alot growing up then stopped, and is now playing all the time (like 4 days a week) and has turned into a nut. You could be that guy!
Work on changing that grip on your forehand. The semi-western is what you're looking for. Imagine the racquet rolling over the tennis ball. You'll start to pick up that top spin but the grip is everything. I always visualized it. It's not a flat shot but a rolling over the ball type shot.
Funny you say that becasue I had a great slice backhand. I think mostly becasue I wasn't great at the backhand and I used the slice as a lazy mans way of returning the ground strokes on that side.
The double feels so gross and I could never get into it.
